Our History

GameTap launched in 2005 and was hailed as the first-of-its-kind broadband entertainment network, delivering games and video through a unique 3D desktop client. The client application, revolutionary for its time, was written in C++ using a custom 3D engine developed in house. Nominated for a technical Emmy (Outstanding Innovation and Achievement in Advanced Media Technology for the Best Use of “On Demand” Technology Over the Public (open) Internet) in 2006, GameTap won the Horizon Interactive Award, Best in Category: Video Games in 2007.

As time went on and browser technology become more powerful, the GameTap client morphed into a smart, silent browser plugin, offering the same emulation and game play technology in a lean, easy-to-install package. Many games now play directly in the browser.

The GameTap - Metaboli Global Gaming Network

GameTap and Metaboli merged forces in September of 2008 to form a new global network dedicated to the digital distribution of games.
