The Lord of the Rings: Conquest (Xbox 360)
Attention, all orcs, cave-trolls, and Urukai—revenge is at hand!
May 8, 2008
If you've ever thought that Sauron's hordes should have conquered Middle-earth, or that the Balrog should have wiped the cave floor with Gandalf, or even that Sam and Frodo's relationship seemed a little "strange," you're in luck. Pandemic Studios in partnership with New Line Cinema is working on The Lord of the Rings: Conquest, where players will be able to command Sauron's evil army as well as the heroic forces of Middle-earth.
The game's set in the Lord of the Rings universe of J.R.R. Tolkien as depicted by the Academy Award-winning films. Although exact features have yet to be revealed, Lord of the Rings: Conquest is the project of the same Pandemic Studios team behind Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars Battlefront II.
But Josh Resnick, co-founder and general manager at Pandemic Studios realizes that expectations among Lord of the Rings loyalists will be high. “Our experience creating massive, rich, action-packed games means that The Lord of the Rings: Conquest will give fans exactly what they want," he says, "full control of the blade, bow, and magic to fight its epic battles any way they want--even if they choose to play from the evil side."
The Pandemic Studio website reveals that in addition to archery and spell-casting, players will be also able to fire catapults and fight from horseback. And as expected they will fight alongside other Middle-earth armies including the Ents. Says Resnick, “We freely admit that we’re rabid fans of The Lord of the Rings fantasy."
Lord of the Rings: Conquest is slated for fall release on Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and Nintendo DS.
