4,4/5 Rate this gameThis is a good game that suffers terribly from some decisions. The primary problem I had with the game was the behavior of NPC characters. This holds particularly true for the female characters. Throughout the game you have the opportunity to sleep with over two dozen women. Each time you do you unlock a card. Any time I engaged in conversation with any female it would pull me out of the story. These were generally the places I would stop playing for a bit. There are even some so insistent that you sleep with them that they belittle you if you don't If they lowered the amount of women that threw themselves at pasty skinned, basement dwelling jerks with no social skills to speak of to around five then it would be better. One or two would be really good. I don't mind sex in games when appropriate, but the way it is handled it is like playing two different games. The one is the game itself, and the other is a minigame that greatly degrades from the main game. It's a shame as the overall story is rather good. The writing could use some work in places, but other than what I mentioned it has been one of the best stories I have seen in a game. There are some moral decisions to make that may bite you later no matter which way you decide, but in different ways. There are no pure good or pure evil decisions. They are different flavours of grae which make those choices feel more real for me. Combat is okay. It manages to be something different while still being intuitive. It’s not boring, but it doesn’t grip the imagination either. The combat is fairly well balanced with some variety available through training. Player skill can affect it, but character build matters more. If it weren’t for the female NPCs I would rate the Enhanced Edition a 4/5. That one aspect is jarring enough to completely pull me out of the game and put me off for a few days to a few months.
its fun, but if you want to play a good rpg game, get skyrim!
Overall this is one of my favorite RPG games. The character development is unique as well as the mechanics. At first it feels like a bad console port, but as you get used to the controls you'll find that there was some thought put into it. The camera can be a bit frustrating at times though. It has a good quest system and voice acting. Weapons and armor are a bit lacking though, there are really only a few types and it doesn't do you a lot of good because you can't carry more than one type of weapon. The alchemy and collection portion of the game is excellent as well as the mini games and side quests. Completing this game fully is a good 40+ hour investment at the least.
Takes a little getting used to, but fun nontheless.
The great graphics (for the time) and classic RPG charm mixed in with almost exciting hack-and-slash elements, this game seemed pretty great. But within the first hour I encountered several things I strongly disliked about the game-- such as the skill-system that gives you so many bland options and the MMORPG grinding that was required to collect all the things you need to play on the more advanced levels of difficulty. I was willing to overlook this, having been a fan of RPG's of the genre for quite some time – until I found some things that I found rather offensive with the story. There's a strong lack of accurate female portrayal in this game. Every woman is either obsessed with the White Wolf or simply promiscuous in nature – it even becomes a bit of a mini-game to convince as many women to sleep with you as possible in order to collect less-than appropriate cards as trophies. Even with the side-characters that are women, their only interaction outside of wanting Geralt's glistening silver sword - is fighting with other women that want it. With all that said, this game is obviously made for the straight male demographic with no consideration for the rapidly growing female demographic; but sexism aside, it's a great game for those willing to look past it's flaws.
One of the best games i have ever played the game is huge
One of the best, most entertaining, and challenging RPG I've played in a long time. The game has an incredibly deep storyline with plot twists everywhere. If you like RPGs, The Witcher is a must.
All around great game look forward to the second one!
Great story line and decent graphics. Truly enjoyable to play.
Very well done storyline, nice grapics, and a Mature theme=winner! Just keep the youngsters away..
Awsome RPG, I love good vs evil choices that you can make, and story line keeps me involved.
Amazing mature RPG. Plenty of violence and drama to bring you into a dark world with consequences for your actions or inaction. Couple the wonderful setting with a brilliantly designed world and you have a fantastic game.
The Witcher is all about choosing between evils with limited information. If you like morally ambiguous situations, you'll love this, but if you prefer unalloyed heroism, this won't be your style.
Awesome!!!!!!!
