Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
correct my kids can log on to gametap anytime using the present engine. the new engine will require me to be more log on for them to the GT website then to make sure that they are not downloading a game that is not allowed by my wife or I. I hope that they atleast create an ability for kids to use It.(GT web i guess that is a good name for it). If not then it will need a primer to allow kids to jump from there start up menu on there pc to the web page without accessing the web in general. This way they can not access web sites containing material that is not age apporiate to them. Because you know some sleeze ball will create a web page that will have almost the same name and kids will access it and here comes trouble. I am not saying this will happen just i want my kids to know that they can still play GT ,and I will not be afraid that my 12 year old will find something he should not find for a few more years.

Use the desktop shortcuts. I haven's seen the new player, but since MysticCrunk tells us the ads are filtered, that shouldn't that problamatic.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
I'm curious as to whether there's actually going to be more ads on this other than the single banner at the top right now. And it's good that people are being given the option to start the lower annual price now.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
h2. Correction to the GameTap transition deadline. We previously stated that the transition would begin at midnight on 3/16/09, the actual start time is 3/15/09 at 7:00PM EST.
Fun Fact! Midnight in Paris is 7:00PM in Atlanta ._.

I believe there will be one in the client as well.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
I am withholding judgement until it comes out and gametap will have a few months before I have to decide whether to renew. From my POV - the ads had better not be annoying for paying customers. Considering the aesthetic appeal of the earlier in-client gametap content the ads/video content will probably be annoying and loud. Hope it isnit. And if the games which I play which are recent releases are messed up because of this new client, I will be seriously annoyed.
Something that doesn't directly effect me, but is a problem for parents who give a damn: it would be good for gametap to figure out how to set the browser to lock it down.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
I feel lucky that I'm not as affected by this transition as some people are (MAC users). This was a sort of do or die situation for them (economy ftl). But for me, its always been about the games and not the delivery / UI.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
I agree with tacitus i will hold my judgement but i am one of those parents that care. I have not seen anything that make me feel that my kids are going to be able to access the site direct from windows. can someone tell me if that is going to happen? Because i really enjoy GT I want my kids to learn and the educational software my kids love. is any software on GT being removed or changed?

As far as the games we offer, there are no changes coming as a results of this update. That being said games do come and go from time to time as part of regular cycles of GameTap.

Well my account doesn't expire until two weeks after the cost increase so I assume I don't get to take advantage.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
Actually, you do. Just chat with a CSR (even that might not be necessary, it'd just make sure).

You can, if you sign up for an annual subscription before 7PM EST 3/15/09 you will still be locked in at $59.95 when your renewal comes up in 2 weeks. The new billing system should be looking out for this specific situation.

Go to your , click account settings, and then click change plans. It will ask you to sign in, and then pick the yearly plan.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
Then you'll stay at 9.95/month IIRC, of course this is $120 per year (roughly) so you're better off switching either way.

>Account Lock Out actually begins 3/15/09 at 7:00PM EST, that will be the deadline for making account and profile changes, setting your custom controls, and converting save states. Turns out midnight in Paris is 7:00PM in Atlanta, who'd have thunk it?
Will the custom control settings come back eventually? I missed that somewhere. Boy do I feel like an idiot.

That is already selected by default. I already checked this out before posting.

Well if you're already on the $59.95 annual plan, you don't have to change anything. If you're confused about which plan you have, contact customer service to be sure.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
Which goes back to the point I raised the first time, my account doesn't expire until two weeks after the 'special' rate ends. Thus when it restarts, it would be outside that.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
As long as you have the annual $59.95 account now, you'll keep it as long as you don't change plans.

if your already an annual subscriber you will be locked into the promotional price of $59.95 per year for life or until your subscription is changed or canceled.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
Which goes back to what +I+ said. Talk to customer service, if you aren't on the yearly plan right now they can set you up so you will be when your resub rolls around. The time of your resub is irrelevant, the time you "sign up" is so if you signed up tomorrow you would be charged the $59.95 not the $75.95.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
I just found a great reason why the in browser arcade and console games are useful. My laptop is currently out of commission. With a plugin, I don't have to deal with installing an entire program just to play some games on one of my uni's laptops in our info commons, which erases all changes made to the comp every time you log off.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
I've seen colleges/public libraries where they have it set to lockout almost all plugins except the popular ones like flash and java and quicktime. If this is a unique plugin, there's a problem right there. How many subscribers attend college and/or use library computers? It's already a confirmed fact that this is NOT a flash embed...
