Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
Yes, Saturn and Dreamcast games will launch in a separate window, as will PC games.

They will launch in their own window.

i decided to peak out and look at the new site
Predictive Search(gud fur mi bead spaling)
Direct Genre Navigation with --Sexy-- Filterable Results(finely a way to search by rating)
and are those simultaneous downloads i see?
but the thing that worries me is no full screen button on the web game(i realize they are pre-release designs but is this going to be an option?)

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
After seeing the screens, the thing I'm most intrigued by are the little markers with the "i" icons above them in the queued download bars. I'm assuming they're intended to show when a game can be started with progressive downloads or something to that effect?
Also, I like the inclusion of a screenshots and video tab. For the more obscure titles, seeing what the game looks like helps a lot when deciding what to download.

Will we still be able to play emulated games full-screen? Looking around those screenshots, I can't see an option.

Not sure if it's been asked yet, but will the browser plugin work at all with Google Chrome, or will I have to switch back to Firefox to use Gametap?

The little "i" is exactly what you suspect, it is the point at which you can start a game using progressive downloads, if you don't like progressive downloads it will just keep on downloading.

Which is as much a nonanswer as you could possibly get.

I'm not sure how much I can say (and I assume staff will delete if I say too much), but the tiering I've seen won't really affect things that much. There's no need to worry about that.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
How early will this extension be available? Is there going to be a (public?) beta test outside of GT's offices? I will happily test it on the machine at work (the one I play on at work), no problem.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
I like what I'm seeing in the screenshots, and the Metaboli influence on design is plain as day (gotta do +something+ to represent the new owners, right?).
One thing that interests me though is the "Requires Key" link below a couple of the games in the mock-download screen. Is that the new "Get Multiplayer Code" button?

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
Sorry about the delay on this subject guys, I just want to get you accurate info. Full-screen browser play will not be ready at launch, but it is coming.

do not want!!!!
with so many features disabled it seems like this should be a +OPTIONAL+ beta test not a forced update. :|

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
Sorry Lil C. I didn't mean to come across beard serious about the full-screen game playnig. However, that is definitely my new favorite description of a level of intensity.
In other news, that really sucks about lack of full screen at launch. I won't be playing anything unless it is full screen. I have a nice monitor and there are way too many other great games out there to be playing in an area the size of an index card. That combined with all the other disabled features is really dissapointing.
It should definitely be optional until the features are ready. There is more than enough willingness among the GT community to help beta test. When the change happens, i'll be cancelling my Gold membership and waiting until the free year from the prize points kick in.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
Feels like the GT employees are moving awful fast to scrap the client. 4 day notice, scrapping all the client features, and putting on a happy face..something must be really bad over there. Now we direct launch games from the browser. lol.. : ( I notice none of the mods are selling this as an upgrade either.
So, next question, did you develop your own plugin? Does it have spy technology to report to you what I'm browsing/typing/etc? Is this your new ad supported business?

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
I am concerned about this change, especially since I'm a yearly gold subscriber with my sub lasting until this fall. I've been a gold member since launch (except for about 3 months) and I was somewhat disappointed with the cutback of all the videos like the Sam & Max cartoons. I understand it though that costs had to be streamlined and the core business is what counted.
I'm very forgiving, especially to those who work hard to get things right. Still I don't want to feel I'm being ripped off or horns waggled into something I had no intention in supporting in the first place. I'm a hopeless video gamer and have been since it came about in the late 70's. But there are alternatives so I really hope Gametap gets this right. It's not hard to please me when the effort is made. However once I've lost my trust, it is almost impossible to get it back. For example I lost my trust in Amercan cars and haven't bought one in over 20 years. You hook me and I will stay loyal until I feel I've been taken advantage of.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
I like the idea of new directions and such but I will honestly REALLY miss the player. I love the central hub system and being able to double click gametap, then control EVERYTHING else with my game pad is one of my favorite things to do. That and the fact I use opera and now will have to load a secondary web browser just to play a majority of games... o_o
Im puttin faith in you guys, I know you can make it work!
Edit: oh and someone mentioned the idea of making it a beta release first, im sure that would take some extra resources, but is that possible?

whats going to happen to the Client once this(temporary) downgrade happens? is it going to uninstall itself or will the vault just go empty?

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
gametap, now with tiny unresizeable windows. but thats ok, couse the whitespace will be filled in by ads for world of warcraft, halo, and flash pop ups telling you that you won a free ipod
While the old player needed a major overhaul, and getting desktop icons for games is kinda nice (if they launch the game directly and don't load the webpage first), However It seems pretty clear that they are sacrificing a lot of functionality to make it easier to sell ad space, which is the only reason for a web browser based interface.
So my money is on a worse service that we have to pay for while also being ad supported

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
Geez. Settle down, guys. GameTap is not going to put keystroke loggers on your computer, and insinuating it'll happen makes it hard to take you seriously.
Nevertheless, GameTap--I hope you understand why many of us are less than enthused. Giving up save states, customizable controls, and fullscreen views on emulated games is a bitter pill :/ I hope those features are restored soon.
