 Dell Alienware
Ello ello, Just a quick question which I hope someone could help me with. I'm thinking to get a Dell Alienware laptop due to the fact that my place is not big enough for a desktop pc. As I don't know anyone who owns one of these, I just wondered if anyone has one or even has tried one out? Any information would be great. (p.s I hope this thread does not fail, as MetaRaka is kinda hoping that it does ) Thanks!!

 Re: Dell Alienware
It's like buying Apple products; you are paying for the "cool" factor. In short, you are putting money down for the alien logo. Look at the specs and then compare to what the other companies are doing, as well as the games you want to play.
If you don't want it for games… There's no point in buying alienware at all! When I was younger, I purchased a Toshiba for gaming that did just fine. And keep in mind, the reason why laptops don't last as long is because you are taking a lot of heat producing parts and cramming them into a tiny little box. It just isn't feasible to expect it to compete with a desktop.
My best advice is to shop around and use the extra money for games!

 Re: Dell Alienware
The Apple/Alienware analogy from the above poster is quite accurate. From my experience HP and Toshiba both have great reputations with their laptop lines and you get a lot more for your money than you do with Alienware. If you really want that alien head logo and have the extra money to throw at it then go for it otherwise you're better off shopping around, comparing specs and price.

Thanks for the replies . Yeah I'm kinda knocking that idea on the head now, I dont like the idea of paying the extra for a "cool" logo etc. Sort of swaying towards a Sony or Toshiba now. Looking better value for money. (Unlucky Raka! .... I got replies..... Now go and make me a coffee please)

 Re: Dell Alienware
I've had a Vaio for a few years now for my laptop and have never had a problem with it. Haven't checked into the newer ones recently, but I would definitely buy another Vaio if they have maintained the same quality.
Like other people said, Alienware is paying for the name.

 Re: Dell Alienware
I would pick up an Asus ROG laptop. As a matter of fact I did last year! My Asus offers many more features than the Alienware and was a whole lot less expensive. If you compare current models of each brand, you'll see that with comparable models, the Asus will be close to half the price of the Alienware. The one thing that I haven't seen from Asus are models with sli or crosfire gpus. Alienware does have a few (highly expensive) models that have that.
Be aware though, laptops aren't upgradable. Even a high-end model won't be able able to play some new releases within a couple of years. I use my laptop to play games while traveling and not as my main gaming rig. Probably within a few years, I'll buy a new model and give my current laptop to one of my sons.
