Re: For anyone thinking of getting GT
Well, for an opposing view, I've been here for just over two years now and, while I have experienced some problems in the past, most have been minor at best and easily fixable. Overall, I'm quite pleased with GT's service to date. If you're having problems, post them in the help forum. I'm not very tech savy myself but, there are many here who are and they'll do their best to help you out if you give them half a chance. Posts full of foul language will do nothing more convey immaturity.

If you have XP, I highly reccommed GT!

This ^ Unfortunately if you run Win7 or Vista like some of us, I might not suggest GT as your best choice... I keep waiting for a big compatibility fix... and I keep waiting... and a little more...

I'm running Vista, and there's only been 1 game (Mechwarrior) out of about 20 or so that I haven't been able to get running, using the forum here and the knowledge base and a little tinkering.

And this is one of the biggest problems with pc gaming. Publishers/developers (and in Gametap's case, service providers) rarely bother to fix problems. And why should they, when there is an eager fanbase willing to do their work for them for free. And to top it off, console games are now in "release now, patch later" mode.

(Leaving aside the issue of lack of support from GT staff and taking up the issue of PC game patches.) It's not laziness on the part of PC developers. Console developers have had a stable target to shoot at. PC developers have never enjoyed that benefit. Take GT: every game works on XP, if they are run as administrator, with the proper ports open in the firewall, with Daemon tools uninstalled, if the AV program doesn't interfere, if the user has the right drivers for hardware that is in full working order. Consoles have generally not had user roles, firewalls, bizarre hacks designed to convince the computer that hardware exists which doesn't, antivirus programs that shut down suspicious looking code, and when a defect is found in the hardware on a console or its driver, developers have traditionally been forced on consoles to just note the defect and take it for granted in future games (which is one of the challenges facing emulator programmers: mimicking not just the machine but the defects that mature games for that machine counted on). From a user standpoint, it adds up to a truth: Console games are more stable than PC games. But it's not laziness: PC game programmers have a harder job.

Re: For anyone thinking of getting GT
I currently wouldn't recommend anyone dropping their sub but I can't possibly recommend anyone getting it in its current state and the current way it is being run.

Of course you would because you are brainwashed with all the new gametap stuff. You never played old gametap and you will never understand.

Brainwashed?!? That's pretty pathetic that you resort to "He's been brainwashed" rather than admit that some people legitimately still like GT. Do you think JFK was assassinated by aliens, too? Watch out, you know too much. The black UN helicopters will be landing any time now.

Wasn't Sam just replying to my XP comment? Who's brainwashing him, me? Sam, I command you to play through Daikatana in one sitting. You'll thank me, I swear!
(Please, don't anybody take that advice!!!)

Re: For anyone thinking of getting GT
Hahaha, I'm so tempted to try Daikatana. It's not worth the bandwidth at this point but maybe one day when I'm in a weird mood....I did try Dancing with the Stars and Mission Runway and both were amusing for a little while....
