Castlevania 3. It makes Bloodlines and Rondo of Blood easy.(Rondo of Blood remake on PSP is slightly harder on the original version but still very easy)

Surprised no one has mentioned Dwarf Fortress yet.

 Re: Games that are frustrating.
I wouldn't call Dwarf Fortress an incredibly difficult game, as there isn't really an endpoint (except when your fortress fails). It's a game that's difficult to categorize, but also one that I find is quite fun, as it's possible to do so many things. There is so much attention to detail that almost anything you can think of is possible.
Also, Battletoads on the NES was a crazy difficult game. Even with my trusty Game Genie and Nintendo Power strategy guide I could never beat it. Coolest soundtrack on the NES, though.

Wow massive necro.
Anyways frustrating? How about....Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde because a bomb kills you in pretty much one hit and the range is outrageous.

Gotta tell ya, Midnight Club: LA is starting to get pretty frustrating for me. I mean, how many times can you be on the verge of winning a tournament (some of which can take over an hour with multiple races), only to have random traffic pop up for no other reason than to have you crash into it, thereby costing you the race (or, in some cases, a lot of money or, even your car), without heaving the controller through the TV screen? Guess we're gonna find out soon. Yeah, I know it's not a GT game, just sayin is all.
