...wow. It's probably a roman number, so I'll guess:

∞ (ALT 236)

I'll type the whole alt library when I have time eventually, I'm sure it's one of them. Until then, I'll guess again:
666
999
0625
1609
123456789

I'm sure my randomness is peak, just not correct.

I'm guessing 813 since it's an SB-813 Quadratonic Mi-Spec Escape Pod.

yes the answer actually is 42.i was wondering how long it would take someone to guess that number.
now for another question since you just randomly guesses the right answer.
where is the number of the escape pod?

It was on a towel.

Steve Meretzky, Developer of Planetfall (http://www.takelamp.com/cast/20060718meretzky/FILES/hhgint.txt) wrote:
I was known for humor, and my first game, Planetfall, was considered very Hitchhiker's [Guide to the Galaxy]-like. I'd never heard/read/seen Hitchhiker's when I wrote Planetfall, but as Infocom folks and outside testers began playtesting the game, so many of them said "this reminds me of Hitchhiker's Guide" that I borrowed a set of tapes of the radio show from a friend and listened to them. I loved it, of course, and decided to put an homage to Hitchhiker's into Planetfall, just before it shipped. So, near the beginning of the game, when your escape pod lands on the planet, a hatch pops open revealing a food kit, a first aid kit, and a towel. And if you read the towel, it says something like, "Escape Pod No 42. Don't Panic!"

Thanks google!

What was the first "video game" (displaying motion and having the graphics contained within the system)?

"Tennis for Two"?
http://www.bnl.gov/bnlweb/history/higinbotham.asp

Which home computer was launched in 1980 and "sported perhaps the most advanced 8-bit processor ever made", the Motorola 6809E.

(The first computer I ever owned.)

Tennis for two is correct.

The answer to yours is the Commodore PET. (Which stood for Piece of Excrement Technology :P lol j/k).

Nope. Looks like the later PET's did have a 6809 processor, but not a 6809E.

Hint: For the computer of which I'm thinking, early versions came with "Extended Color Basic", later another operating system became available known as OS-9 which sorta split this computer's users into two camps.

Here's another hint:

You could buy the computer I'm thinking of only at Radio Shack.
