Seriously even if there is absolutely no support whatsoever for the old client I would still like to be able to use it.

Allow gold members to use the old player.

Let everybody else deal with this horrible website.

And I thought a game I downloaded messed it up. I even tried re-installing it. Then I found out. Yeah, this sucks.. I too, thought of quiting, but I'll give it a try. T_T

I second this use it to entice new people to join so they don't use the weak website

Somehow, I think the free players would start whining again, accompanied by the classic players...and all BEEP would break loose.

I am a premium member and have been for at least 3 years, I am paying money to play games, I do NOT want to see ads!!! Also, since when does it take 5 hours to download a game?!? I understand this system is new and there are still bugs to work out, but all these changes were very unnecessary, give us the player back! We also need some kind of directions for this thing! I don't understand the whole download to own things, nor do I understand when i click on something from the gametap page, it stops the download completely! This is ridiculous and I am very dissappointed that I have supported Gametap for all these years, and now it is like they are not caring about their customers at all! Gametap should care about their customer's thoughts, concerns, and wants! I really hope you bring the player back... Not having the player is what I am the MOST UPSET about, I do not think something I pay this much a month for should be in a browser, and have ads. Why does gametap need to have ads on their page when they have all these paying customers?!?

I agree, please return our old player. It worked fine, and the new one has given me nothing but trouble. I really, honestly hope this gets under control, because it's still cheaper than hunting down old games and getting them to work, but if it doesn't, then I see no reason to pay for a service that isn't being provided to me.

In response to the ads on the website.. I don't work for Gametap so I can't say the internal reasons for certain, however I do work in the cable television industry so I imagine that its much the same reason why cable channels have advertising even though you're paying for the ability to access them.

Cable subscription fees only cover a fraction of the actual revenue of a channel's operation, usually 40-50%. The remainder is made up from advertising. In short, those ads are subsidizing your cable bill, keeping you from paying even higher rates.

I imagine it is much the same with Gametap.. $9.95/month (or $79.95 a year) is a fairly low price for what you get out of the service.. the ads probably help to keep the price low.

You'd be amazed what a service will do when they lose 50% of there subscribers. You never know. I have paid up until May of this year. I have also been a paid subscriber for years. I was not happy when we lost the video, I'm really not happy that we just lost our player. I haven't decided yet to drop GameTap YET but they are making it REAL hard to stay with them. Yes, they might make up that 50% with new people who have never used the GameTap player but why the hell wouldn't they want their loyal customers to stay also. So far I can run only one of my downloaded games with my game controller. I want to cancel, but cannot because my order number is not listed under My Gametap. I have emailed to get this fixed, with no response from Gametap.

I wasn't really interested in browser based games.. i liked having control over my kids actions knowing they were staying within the player and not opening browsers up.. i'll give it one billing cycle to confirm this isn't more risky for my kids and not too buggy

well there goes my 70$ CAD (60 usd) !!!

i just backcharged my credit card for my yearly membership. luckily i ordered it on 4-1-9 after using the app, the browser version isnt worth the money. oh well, good bye to gametap. they will be a free site pretty soon. and you will see alot more banners.

i can see both sides on this issue, for gametap, they don't have to worry about a player update every once in a while, for us... almost everything else! i had just switched from a 64-bit operating system in order to play everything gametap had to offer, and instead of getting to see my happy little player pop up, my first night with gametap again was a big banner saying that they knew gametap was down and probably had it under control. i'm serious on that, after spending about 200 dollers on a brand new copy of XP, i end up getting assualted by an evil site is down screen. i miss my player, it was my friend!

The way i see it when i PAY for a sevice i shouldnt have 2 spend 2 days debuging and fixing gametaps mistakes. For last 2 days gametap wont let anyone speak to a real person to address problems or even to cancel thier service... wasnt AOL sued and BADLY for not letting members cancel service?

Bottom line i think most all complaints boil down to downright POOR customer service and bad business. Its BAD BUSINEES to make customers pay for a service they cant cancel when they mess it up. Its POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE to not at least email and notify paying customers of a change when thier service WILL be interupted, and 2 specifically IGNORE an OBVIOUS MISTAKE in releaing a beta to paying customers without field testing it first. GAMETAP DONT PAY ME TO DEBUG YOUR "NEW PLATFORM"...I PAY YOU! And right now i feel im being ripped off by paying for Gametap service.

If i dont see any improvement by end of week i WILL cancel my service and WILL advise my friends do the same.

What exactly was wrong with the old version. I much preferred that.

I was pretty happy with the integrated and mixed mode where you could launch from the web and use the player application. This web-site only thing is proof that society is dumbing down.

The app was almost a game in and of itself!

You might think you're sticking by a company that's gonna stay afloat, but have you been watching the news? Multi-billion dollar companies are shutting their doors after years of being open (i.e. Circut City) because of how bad things are getting... You really think a company that isn't even fortune 100 is gonna stay alive? Get out of your brain-washed mode, put more time into listening and helping people, instead of trying to quiet them, and live in the real, and THEN, maybe you might actually have done something good for a good number of people..
