I agree. the old player is better!!!

This all reminds me of a certain episode of South Park in which Steven Spielberg and George Lucas do unmentionable things(LITERALLY) to Indiana Jones in his newest movie... Kyle (or maybe it was Stan) have nightmares about this and eventually brings it to the police.

Two pieces of advice:

1) Uhm, it's not a "Beta" if it's the only way people can use your service. That big green BETA at the top of the screen says to me, "we're making you use it, but it's not done yet."

2) A banner ad? Really? On a site we pay to use? That's just plain tacky. Keep it up there for the free users, but cut a break to those of us who are paying you.

Dang, someone could make some money with a similar idea and a stable client. It won't be long till we see this thing on consumer reports. Thats sad cuz I was extremely happy and impressed with the previous Game Tap and would have been a long term user. ( for GT)

Despite the lack of tact, I think he said what everybody is thinking.

Add me to the list of people who hate this new version. I can't even get it to install on one of my computers. It just hangs on the step when it's trying to make a desktop shortcut and transfer everything.

im disgusted by this browser crap, I was just thinking about upgrading back to gold and this happens... now im ready to completly cancel my account. I don't even wan't to play free games like this because it is MAJOR suck.... way to move backwards gametap...

Stop complaining. they were just trying to increase efficiency. it's only been 2 days, they haven't really had a chance to check out all the bugs since it went live. I have no problems actually. online games are slightly laggy, and sure I would like to see some fullscreen and simpler interface, but give it some time

they are trying to increase efficiency by ruining everything and making needless and idiotic changes to a perfectly fine player? Obviously they just want more hits on their website or something, I for one refuse to use this crap and urge other people to do the same until they give us back the player......

The bugs in the new browser-based player I can begrudgingly deal with. However the rumored/expected security breaches are not.

I will not pay for this crap. The player worked.....IT WORKED!!!! Why F&@% with that?!?

I agree with all of these complaints. I just sent an email to Gametap writing how in the world do I download my program, and now find out that there is none by reading these complaints. I am so freaking pissed, it's unbelievable. That program was so easy to use, as everyone had mentioned, and this website completely sucks. It also takes forever to download games. I will probably be dropping this service very soon, unfortunately.

And I never finished Betrayal at Krondor!!! Agh....I'm going to cry now.

Thank you Gametap for making my 6-year old son CRY!!! He wanted to play one of his games, I had to explain this new Gametap web browser thingy to him. I tried to talk it up - "Now you can have icons for your games right on your desktop!" "Ok cool!" he thought. But guess what - HIS GAMES DON'T WORK! "Can I still put them on my desktop?" he asks, tears in his eyes. Nope that don't work either! Now he's crying because he thinks he will never be able to play his games again. Thanks Gametap now I have to give him candy...

i agree, I am not even going to subscribe anymore. I am a game programmer An it was hard for me. Any body seen the Onlive system, That looks worth while. Check it out.

Yeah, I signed up for the beta. Still looks like it's too good to be true but we'll see. Once I cancel GT I hope I'll be able to afford OnLive. Just comes down to pricing.

I'm pissed about this too, I just got a year subscription 3 months ago and if i had known gametap would do this i might have reconsidered the regular player worked great and was simple and easy, screw you trying to say your fixing things, i have firefox and the browser player is slow as hell
what you should have done is make updates that make gametap better like maybe, oh i dont know, OFFLINE PLAY, seriously the fact that i have to open up my browser and go to gametap.com and then sign in is all just annoying and where the hell are these shortcuts i heard about? I see no such thing
Atleast give us back the player if your still beta testing this new thing, give this shit to the free users who arent paying for a good gaming experience
oh and CONTROL MAPPING where the hell did that go, i cant set up 2 player games anymore or i have to hit every key on my keyboard to find the controls

Adding my voice to the chorus.

I'm a gold member, who logged in every week or so when I needed to unwind and the games I had around the house didn't really do it for me.

The player was nice. It worked. It did everything as advertised, and I liked it because I didn't have to use my clunky internet browser. But now not only do I have the pleasure of using my clunky broswer that takes a while to scroll through pages, but now I also have to deal with annoying ads, no full-screen, possible security risks, and download speed issues? Knowing full well that you have a system that WORKS but decided to flush it down the toilet?

No thank you. I'm cancelling, I can do without this "service". If the player comes back, I might join again.
