 King of the Hill Challenge
Since we no longer have the contests or that sorts with the "Classic Arcade" genre, i thought maybe i could start one myself to pass time till GT starts to run there own weekly contest again. There will be no nifty prizes just pure bragging rights on the forums. Here's what i have come up with so far and how we could work it. Since i started it i will start out as "King of the Hill". I will pick a game from the "Classic Arcade" game genre and we would all compete for high score. It would be a weekly event just like GT had and the winner will be crowned "King of the Hill" and will get to pick the next Classic Arcade title for the next week. Here's where it gets tricky since we have no leader board yet. You will have to take a screen shot of your end game high score via your prnt scr button then paste that in your paint and have it hosted somewhere such as http://photobucket.com/ you would then just post the link to your screen shot here. Not to many rules really, of course no doctoring your photo's is a given as it won't be really hard to record the winner's score and check later when the leader boards go live to see if anyone cheated. No posting of more then one screen shot per person so make sure its your best that you post. Not sure what day(s) to hold the event, i am thinking something along the lines of Fri thru Sunday midnight central to give folks ample opportunity to be there best. I'll just see what sorta response we get and go from there on what would be the best time for all but i am guessing Fri thru Sunday will get the most participants. Not sure what else i could add, will just see what sorta reponse this post gets and what anyone else could add. Here's a quick screen shot i took http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/ ... DigDug.jpg took me all of 5 minutes to do that, just showing how quick and simple it is as long as you are a member of one of the various photo hosting sites.

Re: King of the Hill Challenge
Believe it or not, I was thinking of doing this same thing, but I haven't figured out how to take screenshots yet. I have a few suggestions, but it is up to you. First, it might not be good to have the winner choose the game. There would be problems with repeat winners, non-competitive games being chosen, and people not making decisions. Second, the date and screenname should be shown in each screenshot. It might take another window to show the screenname next to the game, but it is possible. Also, it would be cool if we could compete for overall rankings of some kind, or have a leaderboard that shows the champion for each game. For the tournament times, I would like a six-day tournament for each game, with a day in between to figure out the winners and everything. If not, the weekend times you said works for me. If you can make these tournaments work again, then you rock. I wonder if any of the old "regulars" would come back.

That's the whole point of calling it "King if the Hill" the winner get's to choose from the Classic Arcade selection a game of there choice. I dunno about you but i thought GT picked some TERRIBLE games more times then A+ classic titles, and the excuse i was given is it's because we choose games that are on the free list so we can get more folks involved. Well to bad so sad, so the PAYING customer has to suffer through some bad title? Not on my watch! Far as having the problem of the winner not choosing a title that could easily be fixed with having the folks who participate each week post the game of there choice along with there screen shot when they post there high score. Good point though and glad you brought that up so we already have something else we could add to the rules. Far as the non competitive games go from looking at all the "Classic Arcade" games almost all of them can be considered competitive far as high score goes except a select few such as Pong and Gunsmoke to name 2 off the top of my head. Id be more then happy to run through the ones i am not sure about just to make sure and have a complete list of the games that can be selected. Far as the timestamp and screen name go, i will work on that right now and get back with a workaround where one screen shot can be taken to get all 3 in the same screen shot if thats possible. If anyone else has anything to add PLEASE feel free to post your thoughts on what else we could do or not do to make it the easy for all.

Re: King of the Hill Challenge
i could run a leaderboard i was thinking of doing an inverse top ten scoring system as in... place = score 1st = 10 points 2nd = 9 points 3rd = 8 points 4th = 7 points 5th = 6 points 6th = 5 points 7th = 4 points 8th = 3 points 9th = 2 points 10th= 1 points

Re: King of the Hill Challenge
ya i was thinking something like that, maybe we could do a different game Monday-Friday and have one game that would last all week.i was going to suggest that we have a test tourney on Wednesday but it seems that Gametap has tried to give us full screen play and borked the web games(at least for me).but if it's working for anyone Wednesday go ahead and post your score for . (if you don't know how to post screen shots here is a basic step-by-step guide.) and i don't think that we need timestamps or screen names on the screen shots since it will be so easy to fake them anyway we are just going to go with the honor system.

Re: King of the Hill Challenge
ok since it looks like i am the only one having trouble playing web games and i can get it to work in IE we are defiantly going to try the tournament Wednesday. i have made a new thread for the tourney jac1002 wrote: just play and post a screen of your best score. you can post any score you get Wednesday the 22nd from 12:00AM to 11:59PM your local time. you can post at any time and if you achieve a higher score you may update your post by editing a new screen of your score in place of the old one. please follow the NO JERK RULES which are... ABSOLUTELY NO PHOTO SHOPPING(or any other kind of editing) SCORES Only scores that you personally achieve and capture during the time of the tournament may be posted. | | |
if you can think of any other rules that might be necessary post them here and they will be taken into consideration.if i think they are a good idea i will add them to the main post on the tourney page.

My score on "King of the Hill" challenge for Elevator Action is 25700. I took a screen shot of it I'm trying to send it to gametap, but I'm not sure if it's gonna be official.

Re: King of the Hill Challenge
thats a good score Stephen but the tournament does not start till Wednesday. and to enter a score you just need to put the screen in your post in the Other thread.

Re: King of the Hill Challenge
Wow! I miss the old tourneys with you guys. I would love to get in this again, but I am no longer a paying customer for this site, and feel sorry for those who have it for a year. I guess I will see if you guys ever pick a free bee and jump in. Maybe you could ask GT if they would make one game free a week of our choice for the "old regulars". You would think they would want to do something for us, but they probably won't.

Re: King of the Hill Challenge
since no one seems to have any suggestions for a game i'm going with another free one to try and get maximum participation for the week long tournament starting tomorrow.it's going to be... i know some people hate this game due to the wonky controls but it's good fun once you get the hang of it and you'll have all week to practice.
