Post List of GameTap games known to be corrupted w/ 4100 errors.
Are you frustrated by games that will not download due to the mysterious Error 4100? You are not alone, and you are correct that GameTap's excuses make no sense.

In this other thread, we discovered that certain games seem to be corrupted in that they throw 4100 errors consistently at a certain point during download making them impossible to play. Many agree that this is most likely caused by a problem with the GameTap servers.

Since GameTap refuses to even address this problem, let alone fix it, I decided to create a public list of games that can be confirmed as corrupted by more than one user. Please post any games that you feel fit this description, so we can test them to see if they work for anyone. If you see a game on this list that you ARE able to download (tested recently), please tell us.

So far, the following games cannot be downloaded by at least 2 user accounts/computers:

Atlantis Evolution : Error 4100 at 121 MB
Penumbra : Error 4100 at 626 kB

Add Painkiller to that list.

Thanks for posting, buddha420!

How far does Painkiller get before you get the 4100 error? So far, its gotten to 578 MB for me with no problems yet...

Also, I'd like to ask everyone to try the games that others are reporting so that we can show some solid results. Perhaps we should add the number of users that each game has been tested by.

The current list:

Atlantis Evolution : Error 4100 at 121 MB, 2 users
Penumbra : Error 4100 at 626 kB, 2 users

I have played both of these games recently past these points and had no problems.

Thanks, Kirosha for adding all that info! If more people are willing to be that thorough, this thread could become quite useful.

I was wondering about download-ability rather than if they play or not. Could you possibly delete them and re-download to test for a 4100 error or did you do that recently too? It would help make our information more complete.

Thanks again to everyone.

Mafia and Kane and Lynch both download fine....I added the crashes for my personal reference to games working or not for me...easier to keep a list in a single place then make have them spread across several posts

Confirmed on Jagged Alliance.

P.S. Is this really what i have to look forward to from gametap? Of the three games i have tried first, one has been this 4100 error, one has been protection 153 error, and the last said i needed to clear up my x: and y: drives even though nothing is there. Does anything in this site work?

CoolEyes37,

I love GameTap (yes, even still), so this pains me to say.

The problems with the games themselves seems to be somewhat new, but old problems don't get any priority, creating an ever-growing bug list. Then there's the support... oh wait, no there isn't.

However, the X and Y drive errors you are getting should be fixable. I don't remember exactly what, but I'm pretty sure there's a trick in this forum or in the FAQs. Can anyone jump in here?

The content and tools for selling you more stuff seem to get plenty of attention to ensure your spending pleasure.

I'm still a member cuz even with these hair pullers, $80/year (or whatever) still sounds reasonable for 864 games (and dropping like a stone) considering how much my kids love so many of them. However, my instinct to deny profit to bad service providers is slowly over-powering that value, sliding toward cancellation as more things stop working, and the longer the problems on the website go ignored (literally years now).

[rubs temples in slow, mystical circles with eyes rolled back...]
I see dark days ahead for GameTap and its members...

The good news is LORD OF THE RINGS ONLINE IS FREE! ...and it rocks.

Over 2 weeks and still can't download Penumbra. It just seems sleazy that gametap won't get out in front of this and be honest. I'm not jumping on the I hate gametap bandwagon (still a great value), but I wish they would give us a list of games that are having this issue, or take them off the service until the problem is fixed. Like many others have reasoned, it can't be an issue with my computer or internet connection (I can download much larger games). I'm still rooting for you, but please have a care.

They will first have to acknowledge that it is a problem on their end. The few people who I have heard have actually gotten service tickets responded to (they won't respond to mine) get told that there must be some user problem. We all know they problem is on the server end, they just wont admit it.

I'm with you 100%. I feel like a GameTap cheerleader even, but gee wiz guys. You could throw us a bone once in a while and at least acknowledge what is going on (or down the drain as the case may be).

It may just be corporate greed outweighing any compassion for loyal fans. They may be trying to milk every penny of revenue out of the dying hulk that is left of it before scrapping it completely.

I know this sounds a little self-centered, but the death of "Myst Online: Uru Live" was the beginning of the end for GameTap. I realize that it was likely a decision either within Turner or otherwise beyond the control of the current regime; I'm just commenting on the timing. No Uru... no GameTap.

What I find odd is that some of these used to work. I have downloaded and played some of Jagged Alliance, liked it, but ended up away from it. Now I want to play it again, tried to download, and, boom, 4100.

Yea, that's a good point. It's as though something happened at the "data center" (I'm picturing a couple of PCs sitting on a shelf) that corrupted some of the game data files.

I guess the files got trashed and they don't have a backup. Of course, I'm just speculating because they won't tell us anything at all.

Very strange.

Hee hee.

Anyway, I've put in a service request . . . I know, why waste my time? Well, I got nothing but time (broke an ankle and am completely useless). I figure the more times they see the same issue the more likely someone will say something in a meeting (I'm picturing a couple of guys standing up and looking over the cubical wall).

Like Whack-A-Mole... reminds me of AOL tech support. Whenever something interesting (anything) happens, the heads pop-up like prairie-dogs.

Sorry about your ankle and yes, it is likely a waste of your time, but it probably can't hurt.

To pass the time while you recover (when 4100 errors are no longer fun), check out: Lord of the Rings Online (www.LOTRO.com). It's free to play and Turbine runs a very tight ship. You will even earn "Turbine Points" during game-play that you can then trade for cool in-game bonuses (like a horse to get around better). The Turbine Points you earn in one Turbine game can be used in any of them, like Dungeons & Dragons Online (www.DDO.com) (almost identical to LOTRO and also free, but not as cool IMO).

I know I sound like a shill for Turbine, but the truth is that I really love their business model. They give free access to tons of killer content, and THEY ACTUALLY RESPOND TO THEIR USERS (even those that pay nothing).

If you join us in LOTRO, let me know here so we can meet up in Middle Earth. Our Kinship is the best (and biggest) on the Nimrodel server: "Sons Of Durin". All are welcome.

Go to Retrogamer.com......You can play some decent old school games there. Sorry bout your ankle, I blew out my knee a few years back understand the boredom and irritation. D'oh

Even with an injury, that sounds like a total waste of time! If I were in your place I'd just try downloading as many games here as possible until I found enough that work properly right away. All that free time for gaming and you're talking to non-existant tech support? (If you've already exhausted the options available to you here, I understand.)

What is a "total waste of time" is coming in here to undermine the purpose of this thread.

You are suggesting that we should just be happy with whatever works and not to complain about the rest (YES, that IS what you meant), which is completely ABSURD!

Why is it that whenever there are serious complaints about GameTap in this forum, someone (a GameTap shill?) has to pipe up and try to discourage it? We have a very serious and legitimate complaint here, and we have every right to complain in any way we see fit. We are not being unreasonable, illogical or wasting anyone's time.

GameTap is taking our money but not giving us what they promised. GameTap is in "BREACH OF CONTRACT" for refusing to provide the services we've paid for, and making NO good faith attempt to correct it. They are violating our trust, and US law. Putting in service requests not only makes sense, but is one of the few things that can be done and must be done prior to any legal action that may be taken against GameTap by its members.

If you don't agree with the purpose of this thread, then start your own, but please don't come in here and denounce our efforts to get these problems addressed. What could you possibly have to gain by doing so?

Wow, calm the hell down please. I'm merely suggesting to someone else that they don't get too caught up in this nonsense. Instead of chasing his tail for a few weeks, he could try to enjoy the time he spends in his chair. There's only so much you can do to complain and then you simply vote with your wallet. This isn't the only budget gaming deal in town.
