Post My Request for help!
* 1. Web Browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) & Version #: Firefox 3.5 (Or whatever the newest version is.)
* 2. Operating System (Windows XP, Vista, etc.) & Service Pack: Windows XP, as for Service Packs I'm not sure how to find those, I have whatever came with my computer.
* 3. Have you tried rebooting: Yes
* 4. GameTap error code (if known): None
* 5. GameTap log handle: Cyan-579
* 6. Games affected by this issue: Anything not Online based
* 7. Games that are not affected by this issue: Anything you can play in the browser
* 8. Does Aveyond work: Not sure, but if it's browser based it should
* 9. Does Burger Time work: Same for Burger time, I don't have the time to download both games and test them out.
* 10. Description of problem: I am having many problems with Gametap, first whenever I try downloading a game such as Second Sight or Evil Genius I will watch it download and when completed I will click play only to be met with the desktop screen and nothing happens. Then sometimes I will watch a game download completely (I can't click play after the bar goes past the point it has to for someone to play the game.) and it won't show up on my desktop as a downloaded game though on the website it is under Desktop Games.

Then I am also sometimes having problems with the site itself, recently I tried clicking MY GAMES only to be shown a plain white menu screen with nothing showing, though the other tabs such as profile and dashboard work fine. Anything will help and I could really use your tech support!

Another problem has risen, while playing Metal Slug 2 and 3 I have saved the game in the middle of my playthroughs, but then all of the sudden I am no long able to save the game and when I pause, the game will start up again underneath the actual window it's suppose to play in. In fact this got so bad during Metal Slug 2 that the screen kept moving lower and lower till it went out of reach and the only way I could play was in full screen mode. Also, if this helps, when pausing the game and it doesn't allow me to pause, the picture showing where I paused it at is wrong and shows the picture of the last point I could save at before the glitch started happening.

Just updating this again, I completely deleted Second Sight and then redownloaded it and it did the same thing.


EDIT: This is really starting to get annoying, now certain games that I know I can get working on my computer (Unreal Tournament 2004) Won't work on my computer because my computer says it's a trojan. I have turned off my security center and it still doesn't work. I have played a CD version of Unreal Tournament 2004 on my computer before and it worked smoothly, I just want to know why the Gametap version won't!

Okay this is getting ridiculous, now some of the games on My Games won't even be deleted from my hard drive when I try to delete them. I tried downloading Post Mortem, but the download seem to be frozen so I deleted it, now it sometimes repops up unexpectedly in my Download list. Evil Genius also won't delete itself from my hard drive even after it says it has.

You should probably submit a ticket (via "supprt-->Ask a question") at this point. Noting of course that's it's sunday. And believe they run a M-F style business hours (but I'm not sure, i've never needed support)

What security software (antivirus / firewall) are you running? These are the typical culprits for these type of problems on XP:

- either your security software is interfering
- your video drivers may be old which is crashing your game
- if you have SP3 you may need to add GameTap to the DEP exempt list

Well I currently have McAfee Security Software that is free from COX, but I have turned off the firewall and protection and some of the games still don't come in. As for video drivers they are pretty old, but I was able to run Evil Genius before almost flawlessly and Unreal Tournament 2004 works smoothly as well on my machine, but not the Gametap version. I'm not sure I understand the third thing you asked.

Lets try to figure this out. For starters, please stop posting all your issues in other people's threads. Lets use this one.

So did turning off your protection help anything? You say "some of the games still don't come in". What exactly does that mean? The more precise you are, the faster we can fix your issue.

Lets do this. Pick one game and lets try to get it to work. First shutdown your browser and manually terminate the GameTapPlayer.exe process from the task manager. Then try to play the game you want to fix. After it fails (assuming it fails), close your browser and let GameTap idle out and shutdown (wait 2 minutes). Then post your logs again and we will try to fix your problem.

Usually when we can focus on one game and fix it, we end up fixing a ton of other games.

What I meant is that I turned off my Firewall and Unreal Tournament still didn't come in, and sorry about the posting issues in other threads, just wanted people to know they aren't the only ones having them. Okay so you want me to choose a game, see if I can play it and if it doesn't then post the logs back on here again. What if it does work, like I said before it's usually an on and off thing though recently it has been more off.

It looks like you tried to start Evil Genius, correct? Looks like the game never came up, so I expect your browser minimized and nothing happened?

Are you the administrator for this machine?

My Grandmother owns the computer, but she lets me use it and everything. In fact she is also having slowing issues because she plays on here as well. Yes I tried it, the screen minimized and just took me to the desktop and that was it.

Yes twice, the first time I downloaded it (which also brought an icon on my desktop when I downloaded it) and the third time I tried playing it. After that it hasn't work, I tried deleting it before and redownloading it and it still hasn't work.

Have you tried rebooting your machine today? I know that's a bit obvious, but if you have something stuck in memory that could fix it.

As a test, I want you to try to download and play Turtix. That will tell me if you have a general problem with the new encryption. Its real small.

Yes I have tried rebooting my machine to no avail. Okay downloading Turtix. I have to leave around 5:30 Central Time, I will be back on later. Hope we can continue this around later then.

Okay I went to go try to download Turtix and it says it can't because there is currently a game in play which there isn't. I am guessing this has something to do with Evil Genius.

It's Error 4062.

Yes, you need to manually kill the player from task manager if you got 4062. Just open task manager, find gametapplayer.exe, and right click to select end process.

Ok, that's good news and it rules out alot of stuff.

How about Trine? Try to download and play that? This will prove that you have a correct version of DirectX and PhysX on your computer. Its only about 500K to download.

If it works fine, I would recommend just removing Evil Genius and starting over. I don't know how it would have gotten broken for you, but if you can get Trine to work you have all of the prerequisites you need.

I will try Trine, but my computer definitely isn't up to snuff for a game like that. My computer is very old and still has the old video driver that came with the computer. Still I will try it out!


EDIT: Just wanted to point out I tried playing Turtix for the hell of it and now it is doing what Evil Genius was doing and just taking me to the desktop. I played it last night and it ran smoothly and now today it won't even start up.

Just tried running Trine and I seemed stuck at the green rotating circle as if it was loading, I left it for 45 minutes and it still didn't run.

Okay figure out what took Trine so long to load, so then I ran Trine and it started up, but then I was met with an error report and Windows closed out of it. Also I got Evil Genius and Turtix to work again, but like I said before it's an on and off problem. I am also still having issues with Unreal Tournament 2004 and my anti-virus detection software.

What you are describing sounds like a capacity or CPU issue on your PC to me. I think the best thing that you can do is to reboot your machine between uses of GameTap given your machine specs, especially if you are going to play newer PC games.

Tell grandma to get you a new PC for Christmas :)

Ha ha ha she actually wanted to get a new PC, but after what we make that's a hard bargain. Thanks for the help that you could give me... God I hate my stupid computer!
