Re: New game day: Starpoint Gemini & Adam's Venture 2
Had a slight problem with Starpoint Gemini. It's set to a non-standard resolution. I'm not sure exactly what caused this, but for some reason, I couldn't move the mouse below the load game button, so couldn't get to the options menu to reset the resolution. I fixed it by directly editing the configuration file for the game which is luckily in cleartext format.
Edit: Forgot an important bit in the symptoms. The visible mouse and the hotspot the mouse creates were disconnected. If I place the visible mouse on the new game button, the button doesn't light up. If I move the mouse down a ways, *then* the new game button lit up. After I manually set the resolution, everything worked just fine.

Re: New game day: Starpoint Gemini & Adam's Venture 2
I agree, nice selection of headlining games lately. I'm really excited about Starpoint Gemini, especially after reading this video from YouTube (fast forward halfway through for the good stuff) and this review. Looks to me a cross between Starfleet Command and Infinite space for DS, because of the customization of ships and crew.. I know I'm getting my hopes up, but it looks pretty promising. Thanks for the helpful info, Horosco!

Sorry Horosco, no idea at all why it happened, and I'm happy you successfully solved it. Did anyone had the same issue?

Just some feedback; I didn't have any issues with Starpoint Gemini personally, but it may just be certain video cards. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT220, not sure if some ATI cards may have an issue with the game initially, but more likely it could go on desktop resolution settings. I can only speculate on that. It always helps to have a workaround listed in such great detail to help others that might, so thanks for that.

Re: New game day: Starpoint Gemini & Adam's Venture 2
Starpoint Gemini has it's share of problems for users of any video card. The first thing that needs to be done, is for GameTap to PLEASE upgrade it. We are a version behind in here and desperately need to be upgraded to v 1.12 from 1.11 we are using now. The game is actively bug checked daily on a forum I will paste the URL to next and upgrades come out often. I hope you are able to get them installed for all of us or make a way we can do the upgrades ourselves (which is my preference). http://www.spacesimcentral.com/forum/vi ... .php?f=32/ The Little Green Men (aka, they made the game) and I think I saw the company that produced it there too, monitor this forum and answer very quickly. When you find a problem with the game, especially when playing it and getting stuck with a quest or something, they will want a log. Please make sure to save a copy of the game you are playing so you can send it to them and also make sure they know you are playing it on GameTap so they know you aren't playing the game with all of the game files on your computer. One suggestion I wanted to try to help myself out when playing, was impossible to do because when I opened the text file to write in what they said to, I found it to be all in Japanese or something. I'm hoping GameTap can change those files to english for us too, so we can change them when it's needed. If you are playing and your screen looks fine, then all of a sudden everything is screwy .. aka .. half the screen is clear in kinda a half circle on half of the monitor and the other half is garbled, just fly your ship to the nearest space station but do NOT enter it. Just fly as close as you can get to it, until the big 'bubble' (read: circle) around it fills your screen. Shut your thrust/speed off to zero and sit there for a few seconds. Turn your ship around to go the opposite direction, next turn your thrust/speed up as high as it will go and keep going until you are totally away from the station and it's no longer able to be seen on your screen. Your screen should now be totally clear again. I figured it out after 20 hours of hassling with it and after leaving my ship idling in front of a station for awhile while I went into the kitchen to get a snack. When I came back to my desk and moved my ship, the graphics were crazy again. That's when it dawned on my why they normally have strange half circle/quarter circle shapes. LOL. I'm fairly sure some other things we may sit in front of for a short time can also cause the graphics to go funny, but no matter what has messed them up, it's always been cleared up by the above technique I learned. Next, be aware that if you click your middle mouse button, it will change the look of your ship, rendering it useless in one mode. It also will let you raise and lower your ships placement on the screen if you hold it down and also let you turn in circles as well as go up and down. Experiment around with it, but please remember to do a save of your game before you start messing with it. It's best to experiment with placement in a large open area. Yesterday by accident I hit my middle button and ended up setting my ship nose to 'nose' with an asteroid. *sigh* I played heck getting it off there and my screen back to normal, but finally did after repeatedly clicking the middle button. (My mouse is old and the new one is on back order .. figures huh? New one should be here in a week or so.) Those are the main things I've noticed after playing about 20 hours a day since the game came out, minus one day to catch up on lost sleep. For those of you thinking 'how can you play that long?' Easy, I'm a 54 yr old female geek who is ill and can't work. I have nothing but time and no car, no money, but one nice gamer box that I built myself. I save up a little at a time, which is all I can do being on SSI at 698 bucks a month. Then when I have enough and it's needed, I replace one part at a time and keep my box up to date for gaming. I also run the coax, maintain the network, get into the cable modem via my browser when it acts up to see what's happening and whatever else needs to be done basically. I'm not as good with software though, prefer hardware. I keep typing rm -rf / and this darn windows box just sits there. (That's an old unix joke for those that have no idea what I just said. When I got online, all we had were unix shell accounts. Windows and Mac machines weren't yet able to get on the net back then.) Hope this helps out those of you having problems, or those who will have as soon as you try the game and click your middle mouse button by accident. Heh, it's a wonderful game and I'm soooo happy they got it for us. The company that made it just announced recently they are now beginning work on SPG 2! This is an independent game made by some Little Green Guys and I must say, despite their mistake in not warning users of some issues like the 3rd mouse button, they really care about the game and will go above and beyond to help anyone with problems. I learned so much just by spending some time reading the above forum I gave the URL to. See ya in space! LC

Re: New game day: Starpoint Gemini & Adam's Venture 2
LOL, I tend to get long winded at times. Not to mention when I was in school, we took typing as a formal credited class. Not sure if that's the case today (my kids are grown). I type 70 wpm, so usually am typing about as fast as you are reading it. Thank you so much for trying to get the update for us Raka! I may have found one other problem with the game. I 'failed' the tutorial, but didn't give it much thought, since I was at the end of it. While I was able to start the storyline, I haven't been able to get past the Observatory level. It never let's me get all of the 'bad' guys, one continues to stay off screen taunting me, but never shows himself. Keep that in mind. Even though the tutorial is a pain, slow and talkie, be sure to finish it and get the confirm before you go on to play the storyline. The open game option works just fine so no need for anything special to play that.

DrWong answered me that our version IS the last one, but the fail/bug is that the version shown is the old one. But we tried and this is the latest update in fact

Of all the game to spend 20 hours a day on you choose that one! Thats alot of pizzia delievery missions! (fly here then fly back. Oh wait you dont even have too fly back even if it makes no sense! So what this guy I just rescued is gonna hang around on my ship till I dock next or what?) Of course maybe it I haven't given the game a fair chance. Just seems extremly buggy and their are other games that do what it tries to do but better IMO. (However none seem to be on gametap anymore)

I got to one point in the tutorial for Starpoint Gemini, the UI just locked up, and I had to access the system map just to be able to get to the escape menu to exit the game. Not a good start...

If you were at the ring to jump into another sector that you were told to go to ... that is the end of the tutorial. It's just not well marked. If it told you that you passed the test before it locked up/ended, then you can go on and play the game. If you didn't see/hear that, I forget which it is, then you need to redo the tutorial, sorry to say. I realize it is long and boring after doing it myself more than once. *sigh*
