Yes they can,They're in the retro tab.
Street Fighter 2 doesn't seem to lag to me.
Unless your talking about playing online against someone else,You can't do that anymore.

sminelly didn't you look at this update over here Post GameTap October Update jac1002 has the link, soooo street fighter 2 championship edition as i assume Treetops422 was talking about did not get removed it just got moved to the retro games section.

The free games were what originally made gametap famous. Removing them will make a lot of people angry. I, for one. never complained about them because I've known they were a nice gift. Besides, the games aren't exactly the best of games out there or anything. Ever since, Metaboli bought out gametap, they've been completely effing things up. Bring pack Tuner Brodcasting. BRING BACK FREE GAMES!!!

If the free games were profitable, they'd still be here. Remember that in a company, customer satisfaction come second to the bottom line.

Because it's rather impossible to keep customers satisfied if you go out of business.

For those of you whining and moaning about "greedy b*stards" and the like, try running your own business for a while, lets say for 2 years, and see how far you get by being a charity.

Believe it or not, a business that truly cares about its customers makes sure it's profitable.

Your comments show a complete lack of understanding of how business works and the situation which brought Mataboli into the picture.

Turner was not forced to sell GameTap and Metaboli was not forced to purchase GameTap.
Turner no longer wanted to be in the business and put the company up for sale. Metaboli made the business decision to purchase the company.

Each did so of their own free will.

If Metaboli had not done so then the most likely outcome would have been NO GameTap at all. Turner would have simply shut the service down if no buyers had come forward.

Hey now, nonsubscribers shouldn't be prohibited from posting on here. I was a subscriber for a brief period but canceled, but I still have friends on here and like to pass time.

The thing that bothers me is that ordinary people, most likely aged 10-24, post on here as if they've taken economics and completely understand how to run a business. Like saying that GameTap is losing money by not letting freeloaders play games. Face it, compared to the people up there, we're just children who have no idea how it works. Don't kid yourself into thinking GameTap is going to fail just because they won't let you play Fallout and Street Fighter 2 for free. It's an insult to people who pay the $80/year and understand that stuff costs money to run.

Ive actually spent a rather lengthy amount of time as a non subscriber, but still posted regularly. Im back to subscribing now. If I wasn't allowed to post as a non subscriber, I would likely have completely forgotten about Gametap, and would never have resubscribed. Plus, anyone with questions about the service that they want answered before subscribing would be best off asking other users on the forums.

Although the free games were costing you money they allowed people without the extra money to play games that were actually well thought out rather than playing stupid flash games like on newgrounds. I for one loved the Sacred Gold game and would love to find a way to get it but I do not have any money to spend due to the economy. There may be some of you out there that still live with mommy and do not have to worry about paying bills but for those of us who actually live on our own and support a family we do not have the required money to pay for these accounts.

you have a point but what you do not seem to understand is that to run this site probably takes one tenth of the money that they make off the premium package. By charging everyone that money I can guarantee that they were still making a profit when they had the free games. So what if they didn't make any money off of those games they still make enough to run the site.

well its not just the costs of running the website its all the hidden costs and overheads in the background which are to numerous to list.

So what? Do you apply this philosophy to yourself? When you bring home the paycheck, do you say "I only really need a little of this, if I just eat ramen and drink water, so I'll go buy free games for complete strangers with the rest." I doubt it. I've yet to meet a person who can't afford his games because he spent all his money buying free games for everyone else. More likely, he's a teenager who would whine about the unfairness of life if he were expected to contribute to the rent. No one owes you free games. If you show up at my door, ragged and starving, I'll feed you and give you shelter. But paying for your video games is well past where I draw the line. Maybe, if I'm feeling really generous, I'll send you on your way with a deck of playing cards.

Some of them suck, but many of them are quite good. (I'm a big fan of Urban Terror, Dwarf Fortress, Battle For Wesnoth, Knytt, StepMania, N, Cave Story, osu!). I confess I don't understand how some of these guys can make such deep, great games and afford to give them away for free, but more power to them. It would probably take you months to play through all the winners of the IFComp and the Xyzzy Awards (start with Adam Cadre and Andrew Plotkin).

So, to summarize:

1) No one owes you free games. Not even the super wealthy (which I don't think GT is, and I know I'm not, though I'm certainly more blessed than many.)
2) Some really cool people have chosen to provide you with thousands of free games, hundreds of which are actually good, and dozens of which can hold their own against most of the AAA games.
3) Stop whining.
