Post No free games anymore
Hi Gametapians !

You may ask yourself "Where are the free games?". Well, they're gone since our last update. We're sorry, those cost a lot in money and time (deal with publishers, things like that), and we prefer focus on a better service, more new games every week and a better player.

Well, I think there's nothing more to say :)

Great idea, anything to run this company into the ground faster is always a plus. Keep up the good work. :D

Won't hear complaints from me on this. Always was a bit amazed they had so many free games.

Seriously I agree with the lot of ya......pay for the service or get the **** outta here. I am tired of freeloaders complaining about this it's borderline ridiculous.

I feel like they still need some sort of trial option. Say, $5 for a week? A lot of people complain on the forums about losing $10, but how angry can you be if you lose a measly $5? Seriously, I try not to mock people much online, and I know the economy is still awful, but if anyone wastes their time getting hot headed about losing $5, I will laugh at them and likely make them angrier.

Plus, freeloading will still be non-existant!

I feel more or less the same about $5 as about $10. What they need to do is set up a 1 month refund policy. I've said before, they have it anyway. They might as well get credit for it.

Since we are on the topic of freebs, any thoughts of removing the ability of said monkeys to post on the forum? Again I maintain that letting non paying "members" (or "freebs" as the wife and I call em) post is silly at best. You want a voice pay your dues. Let them read the forums, sure I guess, but until they contribute something other than discontent and a pathetic and unwarranted sense of self entitlement, no posting

Well I don't want a trial that's a better value than the long term customers get. How about $2 for 3 days? I'm trying to think of the simplest solution, but ya, a refund is obviously nice for customers.

Gamefly, Netflix and Blockbuster By Mail offer two week free trials. I don't think that would be too much to ask.

As far as not allowing "freebs" to post. That may be fine. But please make sure that non-members are allowed to read the forums. Hiding behind a wall will only discourage people. It's better to read right from the actual users on their own forums what the pluses and minuses of a service are.

I actually agree with this. The only problem would be people creating an account, playing until the trial period expires, and repeating with a different email address while keeping their save games. If GT managed to prevent that from happening, I would fully support this idea.

Well the way Netflix prevents this (and I assume the other 2 also) is you need a valid credit card number to sign up. It's not billed until the end of the trail period.

This also has the advantage of keeping the children away :)

Flat out free games and a free trial are very different. (Whereas free trial and a refund policy are practically the same.)

(Anyone else fascinated by the fact that we give a damn? I've never in my life found myself caring about business wisdom of the sales and promotions carried out by, say, the local grocery store, but many of us seem to have quite passionate opinions about how GT should attract new customers.)

Considering the games that were on it were a few classic arcade games, I doubt that costed anything. "Money and time" is doubtful and "better service" has yet to be seen in the past 3 years. Free games is what used to hook people. Granted, you need someone on staff to pay attention to it, but the old way was a rotation. It's how I got hooked way back when, the game came around and had a count-down before it went away. If people are playing it, and they want to continue playing it, they'll have to sign up. Once they sign-up with a typical one-month freebie they realize how good or bad the service is. In the old days it was obviously good and people would stay. I'm not sure that strategy will work anymore, however it doesn't cost anything to have a game on a freebie list for a couple of weeks at a time.

I was a member a while back, along with most other people, once Metaboli took over gametap they changed every aspect of it and stopped releasing new games. As a nice kick in the face they also took every gametap game and put it on their other game site. You might like what gameta currently is, however without the bulk of their clients anymore they can't afford new games, without new games they don't get bulk customers. See the dilemma?

They used to pop out a few games per week, one of which being released within the past year or two. The freebie rotation included 1-2 new'ish games and a bunch of classics and favorites every couple weeks. The tech service sort of sucked, but it was there and they had a few very knowledgeable people, it just took patience. And of course, the customer service skills used to be exceptionally high.

I absolutely concur with allowing the freebs to read, I just object to folks that cant even afford $2.50 (four sub accounts divided by $10, just saying) a voice to give invalid and pedantic tempertantrums

If you're using Firefox just get Adblock Plus. It'll remove banner ads on nearly any website.

As long as the saved funds can go towards a better, more streamlined player and more games, then I am all for it.

Probably because there is so little done, seemingly, to attract new customers. Never see a commercial, the last promotion I remember was that Coke points one. I run adblock, so I never see ads, but do they even put banner ads on other sites to draw in people?

Guess it is the same thing as sports fans (I am sure there are plenty on Gametap), they might not give a crap about how the school their kid goes to is run, how the grocery store they visit is run, but they will flip over a car in a rage if their team loses a game.

Hmm maybe we should flip over some cars...we would get time on the news. They say any publicity is good publicity!

I haven't seen a Gametap ad anywhere in well over a year.

Oh and I am all for flipping over some cars, lets do it.

As long as they spell your name right.
So we just have to make sure we spell "GameTap" right on our banners/posters/signs.

A good idea would also be to pick one game a month and have just that game free for one month. Change out the free game monthly, then no one has anything to complain about, but someone always will complain no matter what you do.
