 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
I figured out how to get the 1000+ scores a couple weeks ago and posted about it earlier in this thread. I also PM'd robotGorilla.
He said just have fun with it so I thought I might as well go for the easy points.

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
Sigh, gotta love getting my score negated on Demon Attack cause it thought I loaded from a save.
Not getting that high again. Those higher level little buggers that hug real close to you and swing lazers into you aren't worth going through with a second time. The worst part is when you kill them and their lazers keep going laterally towards you.

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
You can't post a score to any leaderboard from any game you started from a save state.

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
@TV's Frank--Don't feel bad. I was rolling along fine cos this game is pretty easy. 106000 and change. Suddenly, game freeze, high pitched noise emitting from the headphones. No score saved, just the big F.U. from the ROM to me.
Seems like Demon Attack is haunted. I'd be more upset, but you guys seem pretty casual about these tourneys, as it should be.
Wish I would have started earlier today. Oh well, next time!

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
DOH!! I forgot that old school games have kill screens!! I was playing for like 45 mins, that makes sense. It also sucks!!
To answer you tho, it has 10 different modes. I was playing in mode seven (just hit backspace). Breakout is like that too, with modes. In mode seven, the shots are tracer shots, so they have movement with your ship. Also, the enemy fires at a very easy pattern. Don't hang in the corners at all, cos it will trace shots at you, much like you can trace shots at it. Shoot the upper echelons first, split them, and kill only one of the pair. Do the same with the bottom after you hit the top and you will get a streak of diving enemies instead of shooting enemies. It scores more points.
Eventually, you just get a feel for it. The timing is easy. Remember--backspace, mode 7. There is co-op and two player as well. It is a cool, but simple game.
Thanks for the kill screen knowledge, I thought I was just extremely unlucky!! :)

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
Yeh, it takes about 45 minutes to an hour to play the 84 waves. I used to play this game in the 80's. The left side of the screen is about 90 percent safe for not getting hit with laser blast. The right hand side though is only about 50 percent or less safe. It seems the birds are more agressive going from left to right. On the waves with the straight laser blasts it is possible most of the time to sit on the left side until they get close, wait till they shoot then move right really quick before the next shot, while your moving under the bird take a shot and you should get them almost all the time. But the birds are very wiggley.
Happy that I actually won a lunch time tourny. Sweet. :-)

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
H@ll yeah, congratulations man! Actually beating the game feels pretty sweet too, I was bummed out before this bit of knowledge. It was funny tho, I was cruising along saying "ahh, this is easy, I got this" and bang, game over. Left eye started twitching, nerves started convulsing (j/k). Was considering giving the PC a Hulk smash for good measure, lol!
Having the kill screen adds a nice touch of strategy to the game as far as beating the top scores. It makes killing the birds in dive bomb mode essential. Next time Gadget, next time...

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
Yeah, when that happened to me the first time I pretty much cr@pped my pants, and used a couple of sentence enhancers, then I changed clothes and started playing again. lol.

Ah, forgot about all the Atari games and their modes. I just haven't played any Atari games even remotely serious since I was... 3.

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
At least not all the game glitches are bad. When Joust glitched on me at 72k and froze, I was a sad panda. When Robotron glitched, it went bonkers for a while and then spit out a rediculously high (and impossible) score that apparently counted and got on the leaderboard.

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
A trakball would be a lot better to use man. But if those two your keyboard or gamepad aren't good enough for you, try useing the mouse, cause it works as well.

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
Is anyone else having minor scoring glitches? Both yesterday in practice and today in the tournament the score posted on the leaderboard was slightly less than what was recorded in the game. For example, today I scored 26,120 but the score posted to the leaderboard was 23,495.
Sometimes it will post the correct score.
Not a biggie. Just curious about it.

I use the logitech trackman trackball mouse but I still suck at Missile command. I shall have to practice.

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
I too am getting scoring glitches. It seems to reduce it by a few hundred points between the game itself and the save. Still, at the level I am playing at currently, it isn't that critical!
I like the mouse myself. I am using the Razer Deathadder with a Destructor mousepad. That is a whole lot of firepower for an old school game and I too am just not good enough yet at all to see a real advantage.
I remember the old school trackball for the Atari and on the Arcade machines themselves. That is by far the best once you get the hang of it. Wish I was rich, I'd find the old cabinet and restore it! I wonder if M.C. ever came in a table top setup, those were really funky and cool too.

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
Anyone else having difficulty having their score posting at all? For some reason it is not posting my score, I just got 65,640 on Missle Command and it didn't post. Not saying that this score is incredible but from the last I saw that would be #1, and would love to get my first win. rG can you see my score at all?
