Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
If my "intended" remark came off the wrong way, I do apologize. As has been covered in this thread, GameTap does require installation, both under the old player format and the new plugin format. This would prohibit installation on many library computers.
As this has nothing to do with the changes coming to GameTap, since that situation exists both before and after the changes taking place, then I would like to return the conversation to the relevant topic.

Seriously, This is the third time that this "moderator" has made a comment on this subject, and finished with telling people that that they shouldn't respond.
Is the GameTap staff endorsing the abuse of the moderator position, or are you going to put a stop to it?

I don't see any abuse there, Belial. Mac's point is valid, as now that it has been discussed, and the outcome would be the same, the subject regarding library and college machines belongs elsewhere.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
I'm having trouble finding out how the change in the pricing will affect people who already subscribed for a year's premium service. Do I have to pay the 15 odd dollars to be able to play all the games, or am I set for the rest of my subscription? I don't think I'll be resubscribing because of Gametap's obvious "screw you" to mac users, but I'd like to get what I paid for out of my Windows side

You won't have to pay anything additional to continue your subscription

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
macnbc is abusing his moderator position because he keep talking about a subject, and then telling other users that they need to not talk about it. As stated ealier, either the subject is taboo in this thread and macnbc is abusing his position by discussing it, or it is not taboo, and macnbc is abusing his position by telling other users that they cannot.
The fact that the GameTap staff allows that behavior implies that they don't give a crap if their moderators abuse their position.

Hum, belial, I respect your point on this more than any probably, but how to say it... mac is an unpaid employee for all intents and purposes, and is among the gt family. There'll be no badge stripping. At the end of the day, you're a customer or you're not, and that's not really about right or wrong, or anything similar. I think gt has made their point in an admittedly (all parties) turbulent transition, that "like it or lump it onwards!!", and the customers have made their point in that there will be cancellations. That about sums up the conversation, no?

From what I've read, macnbc has done nothing but try to succinctly address the issue of GameTap's use in a library setting and redirect the conversation back to the topic at hand. Since this thread is intended to focus on the changes coming, and it's been pointed out that the changes don't really affect that particular use case in any way, it should be discussed elsewhere. This thread is long enough already without getting into such unrelated topics. If you really feel that the discussion of its use in a library environment warrants further discourse, then by all means, please create a thread for that discussion. Thanks!

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
mmmyeahright, you do realize that I am not suggesting that this guy be removed as moderator because of the misinformation he is spreading don't you? The problem I am complaining about is that this person with "moderator" next to their name is doing exactly what they are telling other users not to do.
Perhaps I should not have made the assumption that having people labeled as "moderator" meant that these forums are moderated. Silly me.
So, I will just take their hypocritical statements that certain subject are off topic as their attempts to be an ass and continue to discuss whatever I want.

Til you get banned? ;/ Well, ok. I think everyone is a bit tense around here, given the facts and all. Myself included. I'm pretty bummed I've bestowed my last kanzenshou for awhile. There's better ways to go about a change, though. I still plan on reviewing the client dev options after they turn it off. Focus on that.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
You can always PM a staff member to discuss the moderation team, but that's not what this thread is about, and it's definitely not a good topic for a general forum.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
Belial, as others have said, Mac is only trying to close the topic and steer the conversation back on track, and I don't see that he has done anything wrong, let alone been guilty of "mod abuse". So please keep the thread on topic.

Will Opera be supported in a future update? Its by far my favorite browser.
Also, since you are still part of the WB and I am hoping that some day in the future they actually bring WB games to a WB child company what do you think of this news GameTap staff:

I think GameTap is owned by Metaboli with Turner just investing now.

I sure we will need to make some adjustments to make up for the current lack of leaderboard tournaments, or perhaps increase the number of prize points given away.
Robotgorilla and I want to add the closet of mystery to the prize menu as an official option.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
I can't wait for the eventual return of the GT closet of Mystery!
In a secondary note, It'll be nice to rewind this thread a few pages before all the library nonsense.
Lastly, I have notified RG about cashing in prize points for a free year of GT, will there be any change to how that works? I'm assuming someone sends me a code and I just key it in on an account page or something.

I believe that is correct, but you should check with him since its his area of expertise. I let him know you're asking.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
Cthulhu, I'm getting a little frustrated here. I've heard up and down this forum that if someone has their renewal set to yearly at $59.99 it would stay at $59.99, but the following image says that after the FIRST renewal it goes up to $79.95 after.
So which is it? Is it 59.99 forever, or is it just $59.99 for the first renewal only, or does this mean that it's just $59.99 for the first payment? I paid my $59.99 under the expectation that this price was locked in as long as I keep my account set to autorenewal, not for just the next year.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
This is what it says on an earlier blog.
"Premium Pack: Current Gold Members will be renamed to Premium Pack subscribers. This pack has access to the complete GameTap library of Windows, Console, Arcade and DOS games. Cost: $9.95/mo or $79.95/yr Current annual subscribers will be locked into their promotional price of $59.95 per year for life or until your subscription is changed or canceled."
edit: What I see this means is to make sure your subscription is in autorenew by March 15th to lock in the $59.95/year. Or when you renew you will have to pay the new rate.

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
So then, what's the deal with the asterisk, why the little statement that says that the price returns to $79.95?

Yeah, I think it's basically saying "This is what the price is now, here's what it goes up to if you don't sign up by then"

Re: Announcement: The New GameTap
Freyar, its been answered by the posts above, but yes, your price will stay at $59.95. The * indicates the price change if you do not lock-in now.
I can see how its confusing, its the use of the word "Returns". $59.95 was actually a promo price, that just lasted a loooong time and its now returning to the original $79.95.
