The fact that it indicated "returning to" for someone with the mindset that 59.95 is standard, yeah, that scared me a bit. My father will be happy to hear this news too.

You should still be able to use the old GameTap player until the migration is complete (which may be a couple of days.)

To summarize..
The systems migration from the old GameTap system to the new one is now in progress. While that is going on, none of the posts being made on the forum are being saved, and no account changes can be made. See this post:
http://gametapblog.com/warning-account-lock-out-forum-freeze/
While this is going on, you can still keep playing games using the GameTap player as normal. Nothing's changed yet. When all of the behind-the-scenes work is done in a couple of days, the new version will become available.

Yuck...has there been any development in this since then? I don't want to have to play games in a browser. A browser is a terrible way to navigate this kind of thing anyway, but we have to play our games in it? Eeeeeeew!!!!
I'm planning on installing it through IE, so that Firefox (which I actually use) isn't infected with this plug in. I never use IE for anything, so....well hopefully it'll at least be competent to render this well enough.
EDIT: And on top of that, it's running all the time, AND doesn't save game states for console games that it used to do that for? sigh This sounds really yucky. I...well how about adding 64-bit support, that people actually need, instead of taking away features and throwing it into a yucky browser plug in...

Its not running all the time, the player shutsdown after 2 minutes of inactivity.
