 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
That score glitch was happening to me too. I had a little over 35,000 and it oddly only registered a 32,040. Don't know what thats all about. Just happy I got 2nd place today. Hey Loaning, you say u got a 65,640? Are you sure your playing the right Missle Command? The Arcade version is the one you should have been playing.

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
Sounds like the scoring errors wouldn't have affected the actual rankings much if at all. My top would have really been 33,020 so IncrediRed's 35k would have still beaten me.
If memory serves, this is not a new glitch with Missile Command. When I played it a long time ago the same thing happened.

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
Pre-tournament warning...
tomorrow's lunchtime leaderboard is Robotron, and that game glitches - but in a positive way. Any scores that don't end in a 0 or 5 are from that glitch.
When it glitches, just sit tight for about a minute or so while you listen to all the crazy Robotron noises. After you get the ROM error message, you will be taken to the high score screen. Exit the game and you can post a HUGE score on the leaderboards... until they run the script again and remove them. :-D

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
I was thinking that the scores were all posting but each had a few points shaved off. In that way everyone's scores would be wrong but all roughly penalized the same.
If a score didn't post at all then that would be a bigger problem of course.
As IncrediRed said, if the Atari 2600 version was played instead of the arcade version no score would be posted.

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
You guys are right, after reading this I went back to see that there are 2 versions of the game and I was playing the wrong one. I was wondering how you guys scored so low on what I saw to be a awfully simple game. I indeed played the old 2600 version and not the arcade, thank you for bringing that to my attention, wish I would have noticed earlier, I could have at least scored enough points to get into the top20 of the "real" board. I apologize for the mistake and any confusion/frustration it might of caused.

Yes, it did, I had a dentist a long time ago who had the table version of Missile Command in his waiting room, free play!

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
Sweet! That beats reading an old magazine prior to being sadistically "cured" any day, lol! I remember the Donkey Kong and Centipede ones too. The good old days of quarter arcades!
Gotta say, Robotron is definitely becoming a new favorite. Last time I played this was when I was 5! What a great game, but sometimes (and I think someone warned about this yesterday) it doesn't save the stinkin score! Oh well, this is one of those games that are so fun, who even cares about the tourney!
Those tanks are brutal...

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
I played a Galaga table arcade in a hotel in Japan once. I think it was in the early to mid eighties.
Anyway... Robotron = super difficult. I can hardly get to, let alone pass, the level with the brain guys. Wowsers.
I guess that is what happens when you let all the robot aliens run loose everywhere like that.

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
@Jaccyber--I forgot all about the Galaga one. I think that was one of the more common ones I saw back in the day. Pac Man was another one. I think that the table game was a very cool concept. I wish they had run with it, though with some people's tempers and video games, I could see where maybe it wasn't the best idea, lol! Anyone else here old enough to remember the table games and if so, any titles we haven't mentioned so far (we got Missile Command, PacMan, Galaga, Centipede and Donkey Kong so far)?
I can't get passed level 9 at all on Robotron. That is one tough game, I can't believe some of the scores that people are posting for that one. I saw level 9 exactly once all afternoon. I think the best score I achieved (but it didn't save so I hope my word is good enough to at least recap the story) was 167k. After that, I got all excited thinking I was getting good and just BOMBED! I had one run where I did really good, I had like 65 or 70k going into the brain level and proceeded to get clobbered, even though the layout was good.
Stinkin game is addictive, I wish I didn't have school work due or I'd be hitting that game up all night. Instead, I get to fill out a Purchase and Sale Agreement for a pass/fail assignment. This teacher is so dull....Anyhow, that's off subject, sorry..
To Frank--Neenerneenerneener, LOL!! J/K--I'm gonna do my best to be on tomorrow for the Black Rubber tourney, hopefully you and the other usual suspects will be there too.
Jac, here's a little tip for the brain boards--they tend to go for Mikey on the first wave. If you watch they all gravitate towards him, so if you protect him first without getting killed by the plethora of other enemies, you can get passed the board and clean up in points!j Once they get him though, anything goes and as I learned, sometimes it just lays out the brain:human ratio in a way that is disadvantageous to the player...

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
Since my post's been deleted (unanswered), I have to ask again: When I redeem my points for an extra year, is it added when I unsubscribe, or do I just get the next time I renew for free?

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
We've got a new billing processor, so I think we're holding off on the free subscription prizes until we hear back from them.

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
It's clear we must boycott gametap. They taken away our player, Lunch Time Tournament and even the _ for our names thus deleting thousands of accounts.

I don't think that users with _ in their names are deleted, you're just no longer able to create new accounts with that character.

 Re: Lunchtime Leaderboard Tournament Discussion
How many consecutive 'free years of gametap' is a player allowed to have? I thought it would take me a lot longer to reach 160 prize points the first time, but I must be better than I originally thought. Just curious. GameTap is still a pretty sweet website.
