I'm a gold member, who logged in every week or so when I needed to unwind and the games I had around the house didn't really do it for me.

The player was nice. It worked. It did everything as advertised, and I liked it because I didn't have to use my clunky internet browser. But now not only do I have the pleasure of using my clunky broswer that takes a while to scroll through pages, but now I also have to deal with annoying ads, no full-screen, possible security risks, and download speed issues? Knowing full well that you have a system that WORKS but decided to flush it down the toilet?

No thank you. I'm cancelling, I can do without this "service". If the player comes back, I might join again.

See gametap this is what you get and he isn't the only one who is quitting gametap because of a little change. If it's not broken don't fix it gametap.

I think it's got a lot of potential. People just don't like change. I still think it's well worth $9 a month. It took about a day to get the kinks worked out for me but I learned a lot in the process.

I just read a Gamasutra article a couple weeks ago and this is the intended direction for a lot of developers, not just game hosts. Now is the time to get used to it. You all are going to see a lot more of this and not just from GT.

This is too big of a change. Most people have a shitty internet that can't handle the new gametap. That's why mostly alot of people liked the gametap player. Why couldn't gametap give us both? I don't care what they did with their internet but they could of atleast gave us a choice by using a player or internet.

Posted this elsewhere.

Start a poll.

If I wanted to play via a browser I would be playing yahoo, or msn games.

This really sucks.

Start a poll.

I encourage everyone who does not like the new web player to do what I did.

Go to the Gametap contact us page

http://support.gametap.com/selfservice/ ... do?id=1598

Submit a service request about how bad the new web player is. I even gave them my timeframe before I cancel my membership.

I could not agree with anyone more than I do this person.
Gotta say this is the worst April fool's joke I have ever seen.
GIVE US OUR PLAYER BACK YOU IDIOTS!!!!

The thing I liked most about Gametap was it's ease of use. It was so easy my kids could use it. Now you've taken away our player and insisted that we play Gametap from a browser. No fair!

My kids used Gametap more than I did, and now they're so frustrated they've decided they don't like it anymore.

Here's our list of problems.

1. It takes way longer for Gametap to load up.

2. I have to disable the parental controls on my browser to get Gametap to load. While this may not seem like a big deal to some, it's really a pain in the butt for me. I will not allow my children to launch an uncensored browser without sitting with them the whole time it's on. I can no longer let them play Gametap whenever they want.

3. They don't like playing games in the browser window. The games they like (Sonic, etc.) used to be full screen. They feel they're cheated now.

4. The new system is way more confusing.

5. The player sorted games into favorites, recently played, etc. The new system does no sorting that I can find, which means we have to scroll through a list of games (and if you're 5-years-old, squint at the icons) until we find the one we're looking for.

I want my player back and I want it back now. If I had wanted to play games in browser windows and deal with delays and sorting issues, I would have used a free gaming service. I'm not getting what I paid for.

It's bad enough that Gametap has yet to figure out a way to support 64-bit systems, but this just adds insult to injury. How dare you make us pay for a service that's still being tested! Furthermore, why would you want to complicate a program that was simple and satisfying to use?

We should have had the option of continuing to use our players if we didn't want to go through a browser.

Fix it! My subscription runs out in a few months. I will cancel if this company does not improve its customer service. I'm sure there are other, more agreeable, services that I can give my money to.

With Gametap's self-sabotaging problems, I'm beginning to wonder if this service was merely meant to be a tax write-off for the big guys.

Agreed! I have three kids and they love all the kids games and educational titles. But because of the nature of the internet, I refuse to leave them in a browser and walk away.

This is just downright irresponsible.

Yeah, I've been on GameTap for like three years now and I have to say, I think this is goodbye. If I wanted to play games in my browser, I'd just play one of the millions of crappy Flash versions of this stuff you can find on the internet already.

Here is my biggest issue - why get rid of the client? We are (were) paying customers. You work for us, but by getting rid of what everyone loved and enjoyed, you basically just said "go screw yourself."

I have been with Gametap since 2006. I have gone a while of playing it daily, as well as playing it once a week to once a month, but every time I played, I was satisfied. Now, I am checking to see if any of my save games are still there - since my playlists are not, something I worked hard to organize to maximize my time with the service - and if they aren't, I'll probably leave. There are other services out there, as well as a new service that hopes to wipe out the console (not saying I am even remotely optimistic about that service, but it exists). I have been sticking around mostly for Sam and Max (which I can buy elsewhere) and the stream of new games I can't afford to buy constantly, but this new player is reflecting a lot more to me - Gametap no longer cares about the customers.

There are 70+ posts in this topic demanding for the return of the old player, and I don't really see too much of the staff addressing it. That apathy speaks volumes.

It is REALLY dumb for an internet based company to ignore the fans/customers. There internet gives everyone of us a soap box to preach our message. Gametap has never been mainstream, but if enough disgruntled former members are annoyed with it enough to leave, expect more to be turned away.

I am not sure if I am leaving as of now. So far, the site is the most unintuitive thing I have seen. Also, for people defending it: fine, you have that right, but don't tell other members not to complain. They are paying for a product and have every right to say whatever they want about it.

EDIT: My games are still there, but when I've tried to play two so far - no go. The first, Sid Meier's Pirates!, crashed, and the second, Just Cause, gave me an error that Gametap is already running. Awesome job, guys.

I agree i see none of my problems being adressed and it doesnt seem like anyone is even reading this forum, Im stuck with gametap now cause canceling my subscription will be a waste of 60 bucks, this was a stupid idea, i also agree they should atleast give us our player back, let free users deal with this

Here's a valid solution: Blog about it. If we glog the blogosphere with enough rants, major news sites like CNET and TechCrunch will vent our frustrations for us.

I would LOVE for Molly Wood to go off on this.

I did like the old client a lot. I hadn't been aware of any changes coming up. I just logged in and played games, checked the new games and coming soon lists.

Also, I've stayed subscribed to Gametap on a monthly subscription, even for months at a time when I wasn't using the service as I felt it was more then worth my money. At this point, I am going to cancel my subscription in protest.

Will I come back? Maybe. There's not a lot of choices for services like this. Still, for now, canceling my subscription is one of the strongest messages I personally can make.

In all honesty Gametap I can't see with all of the complaints why we can't atleast get a choice between browser and client.

P.S. Does anybody remember what happend with Gametap TV? This seems to be same thing going on here as with what happend with Gametap TV.

Post Re: Give us our player back
This is unacceptable. :x

There was a perfectly usable, well-designed player for Gametap. It was one of the reasons why I signed up in the first place. Two months ago, I actually went for the one year subscription because there were enough games on board to make the price a real deal. I knew Gametap was going to change to a browser format, but I figured they were smart enough not to fix something that wasn't broken. In other words, I thought they were implementing something better.

What do we have so far? Let me list the details:

- Can't play browser games with arrow keys without shifting the entire screen.
- Can't change controls on browser games
- Pushing ESC minimalizes desktop games unless I remember to start the game in a less-than-full window.
- All my playlists are gone and there doesn't appear to be a way to sort my games other than downloads, desktop, and browser.
- Shifting around the browser takes longer than shifting around the player.
- And most troubling: Gametap decides to implement a BETA website on its subscribers who had already paid. It's almost the same as snagging my car and giving me a junky used car when my old car RAN JUST FINE!

I honestly no longer understand why they switched. This is unacceptable. I'm not going to cancel just yet. I'm giving them a month to sort this out. But unless the lion's share of the above errors are sorted out by that time, or unless they give us back the old player, I will be leaving Gametap. I don't support companies that decide to give us less and expect us to pay more at the same time. I have plenty of entertainment options other than Gametap, but I like the old Gametap. Bring that back, and you'll keep this customer.

Ryan

Hello.

I...rather dislike...the new player.

1. Not as good looking (minor).
2. Bugs by the ton. Kind of expected, as this is a beta, but I can't even download Just Cause.
3. Less well organized.
4. Can't have more than one Gametap tab open, with the exception of the forums.
5. Bugs by the ton.
6. I don't really want tons of Gametap icons on my desktop. Really.

Please at least give us the option to use the old player. At the very least, let us use it until this beta ends...

Well in all honesty, in the long run, having only 400-600 people paying for Gametap service when its used to be one or two digits more people paying yearly, you have already lost. ANd the "Player not coming back ever" only seals that fact in tighter.

Post NEW GAMETAP? WTF ARE THEY THINKING?
I started my gametap days ago and saw that it sent me to this website. First i was confused  then i was upset  that this is what gametap has become. What was the problem with the old Game Tap APPLICATION :?: , This WEBSITE THING has become a thorn in my side. Why, why did you change it Gametap Admin? It is slow, confusing and down right unneccesary in my mind. I've been a avid member since damn near the begining and am very, very upset with the current state of Game Tap. I don't think this it is fair that you all of a sudden change, no warning, no vote, no concern for your patrons, who PAY for your services. I'm contemplating canceling my subscription and boycotting your company, I HOPE OTHERS WILL JOIN ME. A wisper carries no power, but a [rebel] yell will be heard by all. STOP THIS MONSTROSITY!!! GIVE US BACK OUR GAMETAP!!!
