 GameTap Player Update Today
As you may have noticed already there was an update to the GameTap updater, and player today. This update contained several bug fixes and improved error reporting.
The most important bug fix is in regards to installing and updating through Firefox, if you previously had issues installing the plugin via Firefox you should give it a shot now.

 Re: GameTap Player Update Today
Any specifics on which bug fixes were in there? (for instance, was it dealing with the "rabid, foaming at the mouth desktop icon creation bug? The esc key when opening a widows game from a maximized browser window... etc?) Just curious. Any fixes are good though, and new games are appreciated, as is the display thereof on the dashboard.

 Re: GameTap Player Update Today
The fix you would notice is the Firefox bug mentioned above. Aside from that it's boring behind the scenes stuff.

That is normal, the first time it is updating the updater, the second time it is installing the player.

 Re: GameTap Player Update Today
If there is an old or corrupt installer downloaded it would be in .\Documents and Settings\<account name>\Local Settings\Temp look for anything GameTap in there and delete it, and try again. mag, thanks a ton for the feedback I'll get this to the devs. If you could submit you logs and post your issue handle that would also be very helpful. I've been informed there is another patch coming very soon that will help with this, if you are still getting stuck in this installer loop.

 Re: GameTap Player Update Today
Thanks for the news. But I do have one issue - do we have any new games yet? This is the second week without anything new! I've been looking forward to playing some Unreal! If the update doesn't include any new games, when can we expect any new content at all?

 Re: GameTap Player Update Today
Well - I installed the updated plug-in in Firefox.
The installation when smooth... So far so good, I think...
Then I try to start up an in-browser game - and just as before, Firefox crashes directly to the desktop. No error message - just click... pause 3 seconds... hello desktop.
This is the same behavior I received from the 1st version of this plug-in. The IE7 plug-in seems to work fine, in IE. But I don't use IE. I use Firefox. And still no sign of a fullscreen button. Whats the firk-ding-blasted problem here? Is there a popular plug-in that your plug-in doesn't like?
Why have I traded in my flawlessly-working full-screeny-goodness arcade classics for a tiny browser window that doesn't even work?
I think I'll go google 'Gametap Reviews' and add my thoughts in every forum I come across until things improve.

 Re: GameTap Player Update Today
Dudes, why did the gurus at Game tap decide to change things up? This is totally pissing me off. I'm not able to play my favorite games any more. I'm going to give it one more shot, if this doesn't work, then it's their loss. I'm going to unsubscribe.

 Re: GameTap Player Update Today
"If it ain't broke..." Gametap 3.0 was somewhat buggy, but at least it played. Now, the update doesn't work with Chrome, IE8, or Firefox, which are the browsers that I use. Given that I was only a few hours away from wrapping up a long-played RPG and having this happen frustrates me to no end. I expect to see updates making Gametap's new browser work with Chrome, IE8, ad Firefox very soon.
I don't understand why the thing was released without thorough testing on all browsers. In my opinion, GameTap's QC failed big time.

 Re: GameTap Player Update Today
Don't expect support with Chrome. However, IE8 (despite the preference at the bottom for IE7) and Firefox should work just fine. (Keyword: Should)

It works with both IE8 and Firefox

 Re: GameTap Player Update Needed
it would be nice if there was some way to keep from icons popping on the desktop each time you play a game ... i'm not like those people who don't care if the screen is full of icons, who prolly shouldn't own a comp in the first place
gametap was once great now it's just "okay" ... if it ain't broke ... don't fix it
if somebody needed $$ they coulda just left things alone and told me "we're gonna double your fee" ... i'd pay $19.99 for the old version, hell now i'd pay $21.99 to get it back (but then i'd want the one that came out long before updates that made many DOS games too slow and gametap TV unusable)

 Re: GameTap Player Update Today
I got a little drastic, but my GT now works! I went into the control panel and the add/remove programs panel. I uninstalled every last piece of GameTap I could find there, and uninstalled Firefox while I was at it. I then reinstalled Firefox and came to GameTap. It works!!! At least, for me. Chrome's my #1 browser, so no tears shed over uninstalling Firefox. Woohoo

 Re: GameTap Player Update Today
It is too bad Chrome is supported by so few things. It really does kick ass. Oh well - firefox is pretty good, after all, so no major complaints about that score. *sigh dramatically* alas... Chrome...

 Re: GameTap Player Update Today
I know that I came off harsh during my last rant, and I apologize to the folks at Game Tap. For the price that I'm paying per month to play unlimited games? It's awesome! You can't beat it! Game Tap 4.0 has some really cool features, but it's ticking me off. I remember asking someone on Twitter about "Full Spectrum Warrior II." Actually it's called "FSW Ten Hammers. FSW I was tight! Loved it! I played it in 3.0. There were some minor issues. Sometimes the guys would go invisible, with only their helmets, rifles, and radios remaining visible; that only lasted for a couple of mins, and then it was back to back to gaming as usual. The concept, and the application of GT 4.0 is awesome; albeit I can't access any of my favorite shooter games: 1. Tom Clancey's Rainbow Six 2. FSW I 3. FSW Ten Hammers 4. RogueTrooper 5. Far Cry 6. Project Snow Blind Basically any type of shooting game, I'm unable to access. I've followed the instructions for the 4109 error code; dude, nothing works. Ah well. The browser gaming mode is touchy. Especially if you're using the "arrow" keys; which makes the browser window move up and down if you're using those keys. To the Staff at GT, thanks for all the cool games. I realize that 4.0 is new, and there are going to be some issues with it. It's going to take time to work things out. Again, thanks for all the cool games.

 Re: GameTap Player Update Today
It really is interesting how some people have some problems but not others, and other people have other problems but no trouble with the first set. For ex: my browser playing - using arrow keys and everything - works just fine. No problems at all. Other things, though, still are somewhat buggy. Go figure. But yay for bug fixes by the dev team. Updates FTW!!

Because the gurus of Gametap have been replaced by the gurus of the outfit that now runs Gametap, Metaboli. The old system was most likely incompatible with their system, so we use their system now.

 Re: GameTap Player Update Today
Is there going to be an update to fix error 4109? I have tried downloading the "fix" three times, but it was for XP, not Vista (which I have). I used to be able to play "Just Cause" and "Tomb Raider," but now the 4109 always pops up, so I can't play anything off-browser. And, yes, I'm completely updated.
Edit: [I didn't realize the topic was so old, so feel free to ignore]
