 Sins of a Solar Empire
is awesome:) anyone play?
the mini expansion has completely gotten me hooked again. it added star bases and a lot of small tweaks to the game. sins is basically a space rts mixed with civ 4. which can be pretty much like some high quality crack, i had to stop last night at about 4 am after noticing that all the hours had passed by

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire
I've got both the core and the expansion. I play here and there against the CPU on occasion, just because I am absolutely terrible with strategy games.

Yes, Sins is great stuff... I am eagerly awaiting the remaining 2 mini expansions. Keeping my fingers crossed that Ironclad doesn't follow Valve Time on them like they did with Entrenchment.

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire
I'm a huge fan of Space Empires 5 here on the GT service, but I've stopped playing lately in favor of games with more action. SE 5 was great but I wanted a bit more combat and action.
I've not even seen a trailer for Sins yet, could it be a good follow-up to SE5 perhaps?

I never did play much of SE5, but I used to play SE4 a lot.... and yeah, if more action is what you're looking for, Sins has it. It is a cross between 4X and RTS gameplay... it has all the 4 X's, but is also a lot faster paced due to the real time aspect. I'd suggest checking out the demo if you're interested: http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/11955/S ... mpire+Demo

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire
I was surprised at how well they blended the 4x and RTS game play. Neither game type is dominant, and there always both present. Its not like most other multi-genre games were the different game types alternate, and its one more than its another.

I'll grab the demo, thanks! I liked SE 5 a good bit more than 4, you should give it a shot if you're ever in the mood.

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire
It is eating up my nights so much lately. I am playing a 6 person AI game right now on a map with 4 solar systems and like 56 planets. it is so insane after a couple hours in. I had to just save it and will finish up later. i am really liking the Vasari right now. Each time i have started playin a dif race I fall inlove with the game again

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire
Hi,
My name is Goldenspiral, and this is my first meeting. I've only recently begun using SoaSE (bought it yesterday), but i'm hooked pretty bad. I haven't picked up the expansion yet, should I? I was thinking it might be better to learn the core game and then move up to the expansion (Entrenchment?).
Are there still people who play online, and are they of a higher quality than the xbox live community (or barrens chat if you are a WoW veteran).

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire
I think there are a lot of people who play online still judging by the forums. I havnt tried in a long time due to the length of games most of the time. I would say go ahead and get the expansion since it is only 10$. it adds much more value than that to the game. the star bases are so cool

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire
I envision losing long blocks of time to this game. In Space Empires 5 I really enjoyed setting up large games with lots of AI opponents and a big map.

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire
It blew my mind when i found out that there were maps with multiple star systems. you can only jump from the main star of a system to reach another, or research worm hole travel. it makes the amount of space you play in so large. it really feels like EVE the rts at times

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire
Sins scares the sh*t outta me BECAUSE of how much I like Space Empires 5. I've had to promise myself not to play SE5 anymore... Sins does look more manageable and I'm probably going to break when I get this 20% off Impulse store coupon from the Demigod debacle.

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire
I find that despite the huge amounts of time I play games, I'm hesitant to play really long strategy games. Things like Civ 4 just take up enough time I scared to even start a game. I did play some Sins a while ago, I'd definitely love to try further when I get over my fear.
I have a friend who was obsessed with it. He played it on his 50" plasma in his living room. It was like a massive fishtank, only with space ships and lasers. Never had that much fun watching a game before....

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire
I'm gonna need some special gum or a patch to get off this game. I've just finished my first game (1v1 (advent vs advent)) - single star - small map) and won Seemed like the AI was hooked on drone lauchers, carriers, and mainly strikecraft based stuff. I was crushing them with Illuminators, Destra, and some defense frigates (cap ships aside). As the Advent would I be more effective if I used a strikecraft-style zerg or more of a balanced fleet? Anyhow, I'm hooked.

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire
when i play advent I go super shield boosting. the capital ship that has a shield boosting ability is so crazy good for support and you can add in the guardian frigates that split damage with others nearby. you can toss in any combination of other ships to guard them and be your main offense. advent are the super shield specialists
