There is sanity in the supreme court!
I am so happy to hear that the supreme court has decided with the firefighters who were clearly victims of reverse discrimination when their promotion tests were thrown out because all the top scorers were white. Whose with me?

Id voice my opinion but i really don't wanna stir that pot to much on such a controversial subject, but there are so many double standard issues when it comes to race. I once applied for the United Negro College Fund and was denied cause i am white. Here's some food for thought, what would happen if there was a program called the United Caucasian College Fund? We all know why that don't exist....

Yeah sometimes it sucks to be white. To have no culture, no homeland, no benefits, can't peacefully assemble, and to have yourself and your ancestors demonized the world over.

Re: There is sanity in the supreme court!
I'm a mod, I'm not allowed to have an opinion.
I will say as a not mod however, that the crux of this case was (as the majority opinion stated) that they waited for the results to come back before throwing them out. On a test that was already determined to be fair. (It was created as such by the company that wrote it, certified, etc.) In brief, they assigned what could have been a mere statistical fluke (since the sample size was so small) as discrimination. Personally, being a 20-something, and not really living though an era of mass discrimination, Affirmative action and Title VII never made much sense to me. If you want to base it on income levels and realtive wealth, as contributing to a disparity in education, I'd certianly be willing to accept that argument, but to merely play the race card never made much sense to me. I remember my second semister in College, taking a class called "the urban crisis." Day 1 the teacher wrote on the board in big bold letters "RACE" and said "This is where the problems in cities stems from" and I stood up and said "No, I think you spelled 'economics' wrong." The teacher (being the good guy he was) humored my argument and at least conceded in many respects to it, I think the rest of the class wanted to throw me out.

Couldn't said it much better myself, infact thats exactly how i feel on all this backpeddaling double standard crap there is. To make it clear i wasn't denied the UNCF cause i was white per say, but of all the colleges that honor it are all Predominantly African American Colleges. Anyways it presented the point i was trying to make on this subject for a senior report way back in the day. Damn i feel really old now... Sorry had to edit TSR's s spelling, hate seeing the red lines in my posts...lol

Re: There is sanity in the supreme court!
Race is definitely a sensitive subject (Not an understatement at all! ). I have to agree with the comments about the UNCF. Hell, I was wondering how many of the people at the BET awards would be flipping out if there were WET awards. I am sure Jackson and Sharpton would be happy to lead the charge. I have no problem with celebrating your culture and history, but you can't have separate awards for one section and then protest if another section of the population does the same thing. Same with the college fund, if there was one just giving it to white people (there might be, I don't know all the funds) I am sure people would be pissed off. Can't ask for equal rights and then want perks on top of them.

I would voice my opinion but i don't pay much attention to this kind of thing, last thing i saw in the supreme court is that Jack Thompson was kicked out(God I hate him)

Re: There is sanity in the supreme court!
The only thing I have issue with is the terms "Reverse Discrimination" or "Reverse Racism."
This isn't a shot at the OP for using the term, but at the media for using such a stupid term. Just remove the word "Reverse" and you'll be correct. It's discrimination and racism. It isn't "reversed" just because the victim happens to be a white person. It is still just racism or discrimination....

Reverse Discrimination is when the minority discriminates against the majority. I think it is arguable that white people still are a majority compared to all the other minority groups out there. Lets face is white is still the generic race. Your eithier white or your not. I don't know if that is a good thing or bad thing but does call into question exactly what being a minority means.

That term also implies that it is important who is discriminating against who - which it is not. Discrimination doesn't need any additional qualifiers or modifiers. It is the same act regardless of who is on either end.

True, but I think the additional termonolgy is to highlight the irony of it.
