figures. this day in age you never get what you pay for.

well, they can certainly forget about a renewal.

seeing as how pretty much nothing works with this web browser interface I pretty much got totally jobbed by gametap....thx alot.

How long have you had Gt i think the terms and conditions say that if you have it more than 30 or so days you can't get a refund.

Well, that's considerably different that what you implied with your post. But then again, you're probably just one of the few people that still have a beef with GT trying to stir the pot.

Well the new web player is still horrible. Majority of the time i try to bring up the games list it is empty. Site has been extra slow last couple of weeks. They've fixed some things but then other things have started getting worse. It's been how long now and it's still not an improvement over the old client? It's complete bull**** they couldn't properly beta the new client. Someone in management made a decision to screw over paying customers.

To tell the truth, I love the new web player. I've been with gametap sence they first launched. DAY one acount OH YA babie!!
Anyways with vista the old client was not that good, It made alot of games lag and crash offen. Sence the webpage the games have inproved alot. I think there moving on for vista users and others.

I think their concept behind the new web player is good and that eventually it will surpass the old player in every way. I'm just not happy with them skipping a private beta and just throwing everyone into the new player while it's in beta with several problems. If they had spent some more time polishing it behind the scenes or spent the time to make the old client function with the new back end so for a while the old client and new client would be available... It was the sudden jarring change from a client that worked well for a lot of users into one that suddenly dropped a lot of features and added a lot of bugs that has really annoyed me.

I agree with jshumaker: the perpetual beta thing was cute when Google started doing it like five years ago, but now it's a bit of a cliche. Oh, and even Google doesn't have the stones to charge for their beta software.

Not entirely true. Google Apps was technically still in beta when they released it and started charging for it.

A) The one year membership deal had a no refund policy in the Terms of Use since they first offered it. That's why it's called a "lock in" - the name even implies it. At least they had the decency to give those of use with the year membership (I have it too) 2 free months tacked on to the end of it to make up for the craziness and the fact that we can't refund. Give them SOME credit...

2) Yes, the management (Metaboli management from France (as I understand it), not the management of the old GT that we knew and loved) made the dumb decisions and set a deadline date for the switchover that was completely unrealistic, but refused to budge and insisted on implementation, errors and all. The dev team, who of course took most of the abuse, along with the volunteer mods, had no control of the matter. Again, to be fair, the dev team has done a freaking-incredible job taking a really crappy system (the Metaboli base) and made it a heck of a lot better than it was. I'm not saying the new is better than the old player, but you have to admit, the web player today is waaaaaaay better than it was at first.

3) Don't waste your time with a lawsuit - it won't work. The terms of use were there, they were clear, and if you didn't read them but still chose to click the "I have read and understand the terms of use, etc." box (which you had to do to continue), you are liable. "Caveat Emptor" - Let the buyer beware. At this point, just deal with it - take what works, report (politely) what doesn't, and hope for the best.

I'm a huge fan of the new GameTap. With the exception of having to play some games in the browser (a little annoying, but whatever) the game selection is good for the whole family, I've had zero problems running anything and I did get extra months free for being a 1-year (and loyal) subscriber. The only thing I needed to do was play GT through FireFox as opposed to Internet Explorer. Oh well -- no biggie there. FF is actually a better browser anyway.

Okay, I too requested a pro-rated refund for my year subscription (and I was only like 3 weeks into it) and of course was denied but I'm over that by now...

My question is: I see a couple of you mentioned how they were given an extra free month or two because of all the mess with the new software. Well, I definitely deserve that as I didn't use gametap AT ALL for at least a month or two after the transition because nothing worked and I just gave up. Any gametap employees can certainly verify my usage (or lack there of) during that period. How do I know if I got any free time added on? When I look up my account info it still says "billing migration in progress" or whatever it is :roll: Can any of you admins help me? Thanks
