That stinks. I really liked some of those games.
If you must take those away, may i make a few suggestions for new games like these?

Diablo
Diablo 2
Final Fantasy (ANY of them)
Warcraft
(I know, I'm a fan of Blizard games)

Yeah, that would be cool. And which Warcraft? All of them or just one?

thats unlikely, as Blizz is the fiend behind this problem in the first place.

I'm afraid I must add to the list of despondant users miffed by this. While disappointed by the loss of the RPGs there are others to choose from, even if lesser quality. Losing Hoyle takes all the non poker-based card games away. What does GT plan on doing to replace that which is gone?

Well im new to game tap just joined this month. One of the reasons I joined
was for those titles, mainly icewind and baldurs I did not even know they had been
removed. Although that was a blow I still find the massive collection, overwhelming and well worth the $9.99 a month. I'am quite happy with the service as well is the rest of my family as we share an account. I'am positive GT is doing everything in their power to bring these titles back and if they cannot im sure they are aware they must beef up their rpg line.
Losing these titles is all that happened I don't think GT lost some of it's value maybe some of it's luster It mainly hurt the rpg fans the most. So try to fix it or get some decent replacements. I do think Titan Quest, and Sacred Gold are solid additions. You have loyal customer here.

So what is being brought in to replace these lost titles. Many of these titles were the reason i got on gametap to begin with, and the overall number of quality games appears to me to be much less than when i originally signed up. Are new titles going to start coming in as quickly as these were removed, or is this indicative of the lack of overall gaming quality that should be expected going forward?

Have there been any updates on this matter? I'm sure Gametap is pursuing a new licensing deal for these games, are they not? While it's only been a little over a month, I'm still curious.

I'd assume that they aren't allowed to comment about it even if they are. Typically companies don't make public announcements in the middle of negotiations, especially in a case like this where multiple companies would be involved in separate negotiations.

That's true. I didn't really think about that.

Heh. As a college student I don't really have much knowledge of high-level corporate negotiation procedures <_<

I know this thread is like a hundred years old....

but any updates on which companies have these games now, and whether or not GameTap is going to get them back?

GT tells us what they can when they can. If they haven't said anything it's likely due to the fact that they can't

There was a post up on Blues News today about Planescape:Torment

http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board. ... did=102622

It was regarding a tweet from the folks over at Direct2Drive saying they would love to re-release the game themselves but right now no one knows who actually owns the rights to the game at this time!

News out today that Push Button Labs ( http://pushbuttonlabs.com/ ) has "acquired the rights to The Incredible Machine intellectual property in its entirety." According to the press release:

http://pushbuttonlabs.com/2009/10/welco ... /#more-295

They have placed the entire series for sale on GOG.

Looks like these Sierra titles are going to get snapped up piecemeal by various publishers, which will make it that much harder for Gametap to get them back, if ever.

If they get bought up or merge with another publishers I guess it's possible but pretty unlikely.

This is probably more on the Activision side of things than the Blizzard side.

I prefer as many excuses as possible to hate Blizzard. WoW's success has pretty much stagnated the MMO industry into a bunch of hotbutton spamming clones.

I think the majority of the MMO players are hot-button spamming clones themselves and WoW's true success comes from ease of access. It'll play on millions of boxes worldwide, has bright colors, and is pretty simple to start.

There are only so many of us who would prefer a skill based combat system instead of "Tab-1-3-2-2-1...." styled combat (I'm anxiously awaiting the twitch-based combat of Jumpgate Evolution). To grow the industry as large as it is now, the bulk of players would have to be middle of the road (or more casual style) players - statistically speaking. A rough bell curve would be a decent model of what to expect .
-
What we need in the future is to draw enough people into the MMO genre that we can build a strong niche community of people who prefer the skill-based combat, enough to support a decent game. Then we'll need a decently designed game properly supported by a strong company. So yeah, that's my anaysis and a wishlist tacked onto the end. :-)

try the new D&D online free game. it has a really good combat system that doesn't just deal with clicking attack and watching the fight, although they still have hotbar skills, it is still a great game, especially for a free game :)

So I was poking around on the interwebs.. and arn't some of the classic D&D games owned by Interplay? I know there are Interplay games on Gametap. (What brought this up is Interplay is rereleasing Planescape:Torment later this month)
