 GameTap 4.1 Update Today
Today GameTap launched the 4.1 update to the GameTap Player. In addition to the standard bug fixes and optimizations this update re-introduces several big features to the player. New Features: -Full-screen play for in-browser games (press "Alt+1" "Alt+2" to switch monitors) -Volume control for in-browser games -Download progress bar for in-browser games -Browser automatically minimizes on PC game launch -Progressive download functionality (start playing PC games before download is complete)
Known Issues: -In Internet Explorer 7, opening GameTap in multiple tabs may cause player instability -Download manager occasionally requires that you refresh the page to update changes you've made to the download queue -When playing an in-browser game that uses mouse input while in full-screen, you may need to press "Shift + Esc" 2 additional times to regain mouse control.

 Re: GameTap 4.1 Update Today
Well I am happy I can begin playing Betrayal at Krondor again except my saved game has yet to be restored. You guys did promise that saved games prior to the client change would be restored.

 Re: GameTap 4.1 Update Today
Save games were available on day one, save states (freeze states) however have not been implemented yet. They are complete on the player side, they just need to implemented on the web side.

 Re: GameTap 4.1 Update Today
How about supporting IE8 and Firefox 3.5? It's not like either are still in beta which is the excuse given for Win 7 RC issues.
Going to the plug-in method has been a pain for many subscribers. This beta of yours should have been optional instead of forcing paying customers to test if we like it or not.
I'll be looking for at least a partial refund if this plug-in can't be fixed or the old launcher is offered to those not wanting to test.

Just FYI- I use the Gametap plugin on both IE8 and Firefox 3.5 with no issues on either. What are you running into?

I'm running GT on Vista Home Premium. You may need to adjust your DEP settings.

 Re: GameTap 4.1 Update Today
In trying to launch my previously-downloaded Puzzle Quest game (which, since Win7, gave me nothing but Protection Error 153 and GT erroneously believing I was still playing a game until my next reboot), I got errors. On IE8, "object expected"; on Firefox, "undefined". I'm trashing and redownloading it now.
Edited to add: Any ETA on fixing the billing system? My credit card expired. The only fix is to cancel and resubscribe, but then I'll lose my promised grandfathered-in $60/yr annual rate.

 Re: GameTap 4.1 Update Today
As with the last patch, I could never get this patch to install in Firefox 3.5. However, I was able to install in IE 8, and once that install finished, Firefox worked fine.
I'm not complaining. I'm just throwing this out for anyone else having issues with Firefox.

You filed a support ticket? They should be able to adjust your credit card.

 Re: GameTap 4.1 Update Today
I haven't; previous guidance I read here was that they'd just tell me to cancel and try again.
Update on Puzzle Quest: redownloaded, and it's back to the old behavior- Protection Error 153, and then I can't play anymore until a full system reboot because GameTap thinks I'm in a game already.

 Re: GameTap 4.1 Update Today
Whenever I try to play all I get is X and Y drive error and there is seemingly no way to fix it, the help center didn't even help that much, since I can't redirect my X or Y drive for use by the new Gametap player, even though the old Gametap player ran perfectly on this computer.

 Re: GameTap 4.1 Update Today
it sounds like you should submit a support ticket. (Also, run GT as an admin if you're on vista.)

This new update is pretty awesome. Any word on when we'll be able to customize out buttons?

Out of curiosity, how does the progressive download functionality actually work? I'm interested, and I'm paranoid to try it... *shrug* I've always thought you needed the whole game installed to actually play the game.

 Re: GameTap 4.1 Update Today
Once it goes past the line, that's enough data to start playing the game. It then continues to download the rest of it as you play. Not reccomended if you plan to speed through, since it can cause you to hit a point that it hasn't downloaded yet, but it can be useful if you just want to start playing.

Before encrypting the game it is analyzed to determine which blocks of data are needed for the beginning of the game, those are all that is needed to start playing.

Yes! Finally!
A good step towards getting back to where you were before the beta.
