Not that I'm going to be purchasing Playstation 3 any time soon, but the new 120GB PS3 slim is now $299. You can also purchase the older PS3 80GB machine is also $299. They are supposed to start shipping on Sept 1. I hear there is high demand so you might have to wait for awhile.

I love the 360 but I might consider picking up a ps3 up at some point

No PS2 backwards compatibility for the PS3 and I hate Microsoft... I suppose I'll have to pick up one of the two consoles eventually though

There are some great exclusives that make it worth it IMO.

Still not enough for me to run out and buy it, honestly. I've got a back log of Xbox games I'm dying to play still and the PS exclusives never really intrigued me that much, except infamous, but I'm not spending $300 to play 1 game.

I'll buy it when God of War III comes out, that's probably the only reason I want a PS3.

And I wouldn't mind littlebigplanet as well.

Ive been on the fence whether to buy a Blu-Ray player soon and get a PS3 in a year or so or to spend the extra money and just get a PS3 Right away. The new price means there really is only one option now.

What can I say dude, I'm a total "gear head" and a rabid auto racing fan (and no, that doesn't just mean NASCAR), so I like my hardcore racing sims.

Wait till you're old enough to drive and get the chance to pilot something that's capable of a little "perfomance". Maybe you're views will change a little.

Oh and btw, totally agree on the Burnout series. As far as arcade style racers go, it's my all time favorite (as I said in the "my favorite games" thread).

i was looking at deals on ps3 slim console to play tekken 6, gta iv and gt 5. now the price has fallen perhaps because ps3 has lost its kudos with the games being release on other console aslo .
tekken ps3/xbox
gt ps3/psp
gta iv xbox/ps3... but no expansions if your playing ps3

It's about time Sony managed to get the PS3 to a price point that is more agreeable across the board. I did manage to snag a 60gb with BC back during a special promotion and go it for way less than the $599 price tag several paid on day one. This will be a good things for the PS3 and should get it in to the hands of more gamers. $299 is sweet spot for console IMO. I mean look at the Wii with its $249 price. Also, consider the fact that the PS3 has a sweet library of exclusive games.

I guess I just like some of the more interesting games Sony has managed to provide like Echochrome, Flow, Flower and Fat Princess. The games are great and have a different pace to them compared to some of the more mainstream titles. Microsoft has a great library also, but I am partial to the PlayStation. So, if you have not jumped on the bandwagon, what are you waiting for?

I have not owned a console since the PS1. After almost ten years of being console free, I bought the slim PS3 the day it went down in price.

And then I bought a couple 'BestSeller titles.' Then I was dissapointed on how it looked on my old CRT.

And then I bought a 42" plasma. Then I wondered how a DVD compared to a BluRay movie.

And then I bought about a dozen BluRay movies. Then I grew uncomfortable in my old couch, which I was istting on a lot more than I used to.

And then I bought a new couch.

Then I was broke.

The moral of the story is the $299 PS3 Slim is actually WAY more expensive than the $399 160 gig older version.

Well now I have all three of the big systems, bought a xbox 360, got a wii for christmas and my dad just bought a ps3, at least i can play infamous now

Sorry to hear that Lil C. On the other hand, I have a buddy from work who actually waited on line for something like 15 hours to buy a PS3 back when it first went on sale (what was that like, three years ago now? Man, time flies). We actually dumped a beer on it one night (by accident, of coarse) and yet, he hasn't had a single problem with it since! Sony. Who knew?

Odd, What are you doing to thise things? Mine's going on 3 years IIRC and I haven't had a problem (outside of oblivion and Fallout freezing sometime, but I hear that's commonn enough.)

Strangely, mine didn't red ring, the freezing just got worse. When I played Mercenaries 2, it started doing some hard bad freezing (like freezing on "WAAAAaaaaaaaaaA" that plays when you turn on the system), so I popped in Saints Row 2 (which I had just finished without freezing) and got almost immediate freezing. So I dunno exactly what happened, since it had only done this with a handful of games before.

Well my other games play well. So it's sometihng engine related I'd bet.
Meanwhile, MS has offered $50 rebates on Elite systems (on top of the price cut). Presumably to compete with sony.

I've had my 360 about a year now, I havn't had any red rings or freezes while my friend a few blocks down had two red rings this year alone, what are you guys doing to these things?

I wouldn't get an Elite even with the rebate. The Xbox 360 is clearly designed around the color white. It just doesn't look that good when its black. A white 360 is the most attractive looking game console there ever was. Unless you count hand-helds. The piano black PSP, and several colors of the DS light are just plain gorgeous.
