Woah, that's major! Thank you for that news. If GT is like RuneScape (metaphorically speaking), the QA part should take from a day to a week if there's no issues. If all goes well, I see my other comp playing Psychonaughts on Tuesday.

QA with GameTap takes longer than Runescape. Also, the OP has been updated with this new information.

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
wow..it's good to finally hear that 64 bit systems are going to be supported. It definitely took a long time and gametap surely lost an enormous amount of customers, but hopefully with the new update they'll be able to come back. I was getting worried for a little while that it was going to fail. They probably fixed it just in time. But anyway..as for my suggestion, I liked the "stand alone player" a lot better then having to go on their website.

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
Just so we're clear, a 64 bit player does *not* mean that all the games will be 64 bit enabled when we launch. That will have to be done as a game by game process.

I know it does, I was making a comparison. I resized your words to show what I'm talking about

Hehe...that's pretty funny. What he means is it will be available in 2012 rather than 2017. ROFLMAO!!!

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
I'm glad to read that Gametap is finally switching 3rd-party vendors to someone who can support 64-bit. But I must comment a bit further.
It's hard to believe that it's been about two years since 64-bit machines started to become popular. I fear that Gametap has actually lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue on the lost 64-bit gamers out there.
Whoever at Gametap delayed this decision and decided it was "unimportant" at that time, should be sacked, if they haven't been already.
In today's fast moving technological merry-go-round, companies must be proactive rather than reactive to successfully compete. In my opinion, Gametap is VERY lucky that they didn't fail altogether due to this misstep.
That being said, I'm looking forward to rejoining Gametap when all the titles are re-encrypted and ready for 64-bit.
As always, I would also be available to beta test.

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
I agree with elron. Technology is definitely moving much faster then it ever has before in our world's history, and companies must update their own technology and ideals to match it. Although it's probably hard to keep up and it costs a lot of resources to do so, it's really the only way for a business to stay alive in our current economy.
But anyway, again, I'm glad that gametap is finally updating everything to allow 64bit support..it's definitely going to make a lot of people happy.
I think you guys should somehow put this information on the front page, or on the help article that's dedicated to this topic. Not a lot of customers thought about visiting the forum like we have, so they probably have no idea that the updates coming out soon.

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
With regard to promoting 64 bit support, you probably won't see too much high profile promotion until we have a sizable number of PC games that are ready to go with 64 bit support. As I said in previous posts, the 64 bit compatible PC games are all encrypted with different technology. The old games aren't going to magically work all of the sudden; it will take some time to roll out new game packages.
The good news is that we already have a boatload of games encrypted and ready to test. Once things are deemed as stable and the content team gets cranking, there should be a pretty steady flow of 64 bit titles.

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
This is great news.
Still, like a few others have said. There was no reason for GT to be in this positions. 64bit OS's started getting popular with vista(over 2 years ago), and Windows 7 is only going to increase the popularity.
Not having foreseen this was a huge mistake. However, it is nice to see that we will be getting the technology support we should have had all along. It's just a shame this whole thing happened the way it did.

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
They have been trying to develop this support, and they have been working on it for almost a year (if the OP is any indication.) Based off my own thoughts from official reports, it could be out this week, I could be wrong though.

Your thoughts are likely wrong. He did say a "couple of weeks."

If it doesn't, GT is messing with us.

macnbc wrote: Q: Is there a timeline on when GameTap will be fully supporting 64-bit? A: Officially, no. It will come out when it's ready. However, staff have commented in this thread as recently as September 2009 that the new plugin is in final QA testing and may be available in a few weeks.

Good to hear these things; I've got a new 64-bit Vista computer arriving by the end of this month, I'd hate to have to shut GT back off because it won't run on the new machine ...

Looks like Gametap will be able to close this thread soon Check the latest blog posting from LilC: http://gametapblog.com/- oh and I'm very happy with the choice of the 1st 64 bit game to be released, the demo was a lot of fun and now I don't have to buy it!

Re: The Official 64-bit Support Suggestion Thread
It's in QA (quality assurance) so there's going to be nothing to report until its been given a green light. LilC said he was hoping for next week but he's made it clear that everything is "up in the air." They don't even have a solid release schedule right now because it's so close.
You'll know they are launching it because: a) they'll post it everywhere (if they're smart) b) we'll (hopefully) get a set date for Trine which they've established will be the first game we get in Yummy form.

Re: confused about x64 gametap client
The only games you will be able to play with a 64-bit system are the ones we enable for 64-bit. The 64-bit client won't make the whole catalog work overnight, we'll need to convert old games.
