Post Re: Champions Online GameTap Group
A bunch of us here at GT have been playing. I've been busy getting ready for Dragon*Con but after this weekend I'll put in some serious hours.

So far I'm enjoying it a lot, its a refreshing change of pace from "Fantasy MMO X, Y or Z". It's also a lot of fun to check out all the characters people have created, there are a lot of high quality heroes.

Hit me up online if you want, the 2 heroes I'm playing the most are:
Dr. Weird@LittlestCthulhu and Flintlock@LittlestCthulhu

@Dreammosaic, so far I've found it to be one of the most stable, feature complete MMO launches I've experienced... granted that isn't saying much considering the typical launch track records.

The game itself definitely isn't bad. I disagree with the degree they recently cut some powers by, not the fact they needed a bit of reduction though. My main issue right now is they claimed there would be no "stealth nerfs" and then cut a ton of powers by 50-80% and didn't mention a word about it. Tacked on with other things they don't update/inform people about (the lifetime sub issue that exploded on the boards is one example) isn't a good track record so far for customer service. One of the developers apparently did an interview and said they couldn't balance a power without cutting it to nothing and then dialing it back up. They still should inform people when they chop things down so severely.

The costumes need a bit more options too. You can't wear a cape with a kevlar vest, for example, even though they shouldn't conflict. There are very few mask patterns, I wanted one with a skull that wasn't actually a skull for the character head heh. There isn't a fur skin pattern, but there are like 3 reptile/snake ones. They have bunny ears/tail but no bunny head. Things like that.

They are adding more and had added a bunch during beta, so I am guessing the stream of options will continue. You can get a lot of things made with what is in there now too.

My most commonly played is Object@midnight in there.

They also nerfed all quest exp 20% stealth on the first day.

Yeah, the power thing bugged me more but that was another example of bad communication. Plus the fact the respecs are bugged (I haven't logged in yet today, not sure if they still are) so you can't remove choices that seriously hinder your build for now. My archer is getting slaughtered by 3 henchmen. Its a little sad heh.

Hope they adjust things the other way some.

That's not the impression I am getting from them.

I assume Antiproton is a dev and from his statements I gather that:
  • 1. Developers don't communicate properly
  • 2. The developers don't give a rat's ass about the community
  • 3. The developers don't actually play the game they are changing
  • 4. The developers intend to keep making changes without providing details

If it wasn't for City of Heroes, I would think this was their first rodeo. It is only going to get worse when they move on to really focus on Star Trek Online.

I'm still loving it, my only question is how the end game will hold my attention.

Heh have you hit Lemuria yet? My enjoyment plummeted in that zone. Lots of rubberbanding/crashing/mobs randomly despawning and stuff. I know they are focusing on the lower level areas since 95% of the players are there still, just a big shock in the difference.

Of course, some people probably love the zone. I might like it more if it worked right. It will never be a great zone, in my opinion.

Eh it's pretty good so far, I really love the combat though many of the powers could obviously use some balancing. It has a lot of potential though I feel like they rushed the beta a bit. I also think it's a big step backwards from CoH from a lore perspective; there's hardly any story in the game at all. I sometimes don't even know who I'm fighting: " go beat up guys in purple" or "go beat up guys in red".
