I don't beleive I'm being a douche bag by getting a little pissed off at people asking a question that's been answered hundreds of times.
Plus, I made that post a long time ago, back then there was a new post asking where the free games went almost every day, it's not really like that anymore.

Well you know, I am brand new here, just checking things out to see what things are like here and how they work. I am not going to post a whiny post but hopefully a thoughtful one. I suppose the first question that came to my mind was where exactly is this downloadable "free" game downloading to? I haven't found a FAQ so if that question is on there already please forgive me, point me to the FAQ and I will read it. However, Descent: Freespace is the game in question; the download que shows that it is downloading 887.3 MB of game data I assume to some unspecified place on my hard drive would be my next assumption. I am not exactly sure how I feel about that. On the one hand I suppose I understand that if the download location is given to everyone then some enterprising pirate will come along and figure out how to pirate the game and strip away any DRM that is there. That however has already happened where Descent: Freespace is concerned, multiple times over I am sure, as it likely has with all the games that are offered for free play here and probably most of them that are locked up tighter than drums. So some unspecified section of my hard drive is being used to store this "free" game which can then be taken away at a whim? From my hard drive mind you... does Gametap uninstall the game from my hard drive without me knowing it? Kind of a "drive by un-installation?" The more I type the more I actually think about this and the more interesting it seems to get. You understand I hope that this would imply that Gametap has access to my hard drive and can uninstall things without me knowing it. Are we feeling the discomfort that this can produce yet? I hope so. It brings up quite a few questions. What if I want that hard drive space back, is there an option for me to uninstall this game that is being installed somewhere on my hard drive?

I am not writing this to imply that GameTap is a bad service, I just have questions, and I can understand some of the reason that people get riled when they take away things that have been offered as free. GameTap as far as I have seen does not communicate the fact that these games are only temporarily free anywhere up front. There is a lot of sensational advertising and boasting about having free games but the details are hidden. I didn't know that anything was temporary until I visited this forum. What if I hadn't come here and then I had spent 30 minutes waiting for an 800 MB file to download and then the next day it was gone. If it was a game that I was attached to then yeah I might be riled too, if I just suddenly didn't have any access anymore to something that I spent awhile downloading that was not a time limited demo then yes I might be riled as well. Honestly it would kind of make me think that going and downloading a torrent instead might have been the better idea, it might be illegal but at least it won't suddenly vanish on me. Hmmm now please if I have not understood the big picture please be gentle, these are just some thoughts and questions that came to mind and I think they are valid.

I'm not sure where you got the impression that GT will secretly uninstall software from your hard drive. When the game leaves the free game rotation it will no longer launch if you're not a paid subscriber. Simply click the trash can next to the game in your download manager and the game will be deleted from your hard drive.

there is a support link that answer all sorts of questions in the top left corner of the website.

What really happened to all of the free games? but clikcing on the blue box that has "free" beside it i see only 19 games. 19. Thats pretty small since gampttap has over 1000. There has also been no free game releases for a while and you took off some of the games form the Free game rotaion. WhY?

Isn't the answer obvious? Gametap has to pay to license and serve even the free games. And seeing as how Gametap gets most of its money from the paying subscribers (like me), the better question is "Why are there any free games at all?"

And the answer is, the free games are a sample. They exist to let people try Gametap, to see if it works on their system, to get the idea of how it works.

Wow really? i knew that but how am i going to decide to buy a suscrption or not if you only offer 19 free games? I guess its getting harder and harder for Game tap to make money so thye pull free games they said thye would give to us in a free rotaion. Maybe if gametap went back to there old player and we didn't on all of the issues on this web browser maybe mroe people would suscribe and hopefully we could have mroe than 19 free games.

Doesn't it occur to you that this is a bit like walking into the grocery store and asking the free sample lady, "How am I supposed to decide if I want your cookies if all you give me as a free sample is one? I'd consider it if you gave me at least 20 full boxes, and let me come to the store whenever I wanted and refill them in perpetuity."

Granted, Gametap is in a different business: there are technical issues, especially on Vista and Win7, and I wasn't about to fork over my money either until I saw that the games ran on my system. But that's a far different thing then:

"Give me free stuff, and more free stuff, and keep giving me more free stuff forever and ever."

That doesn't sound like you want a free sample. That sounds like you want people like me to pay for people like you to play free video games.

I mean, seriously, "only" 19 free games. That's a bit like going into Olive Garden, asking for a sample, and complaining that it's not only "only a bite", but that you had in mind about 30 or 40 free meals over the course of the next couple of months.

I know what your saying why should they make games free? i just want a few more games free ( like 5) so there can be atleast 24 or 25 games. Also eveer seen the commericals on your tv advertsing that gametap offers free games? I do want to pay for your suscription but when i see your free games i think "wow only 19 and there not that good? maybe i shouldn't pay for there suscription if this is the only kind of games they have" although i know you have some nice games. i am not asking for 100 more free games and i am not even asking that you add 20 more free games. I am asking like 5 or even start making some games free for only like a week or so like you used to. I remember on the old gametap player that they had a good selection of free game sthat kept me entertained. I was going to pay suscrip[tion then thye came out with the web broswer and i had problem downloading and playing games so i decided not to pay the suscription to gametap. I hope they will put up only a few more free games and when they come out with the sysem tray client thing i will probaly pay the suscription and you won't see me complaining about game son this fourm again ( unless its a technical issue)
