 Problem Launching Trine?
Our first game with 64-bit compatible PC game encryption, Trine, should be released this morning if all goes well. If you have any trouble launching the game, be aware that there are two prerequisites that you may need to manually take care of: 1) Latest DirectX drivers, which can be found at Microsoft Download Center ( http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=04ac064b-00d1-474e-b7b1-442d8712d553) 2) Latest Aegea Physx Driver from Nvidea, which can be found at http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_9.09.0814.htmlHopefully this can help you get up and running quickly!

 Re: Problem Launching Trine?
I've been reading conflicting information about getting PhysX to work with ATI cards. I have an ATI HD 3650 graphics card, which is certainly not supported by Nvidia, but apparently installing it works for some people with ATI cards. I'm extremely reluctant to install unsupported drivers.
Does anyone else have experience with trying to get PhysX to play nice with ATI cards?

 Re: Problem Launching Trine?
I use it with an ATI 4850 with no problems. PhysX has a software side to it that some games need, regardless if your hardware supports it.

 Re: Problem Launching Trine?
The GeForce 9 series and (I think) the 8 series both have a PhysX chip on the card so if you keep your video drivers up-to-date then NVidia also keeps your PhysX updated as well.

I get a "Yummy player 4.0 required" when I try to play it. Is this a physx thing or a gametap update thing?

That link doesn't point to the latest DirectX redistributable, it goes to the March 09 one. Here's the August 09 one --> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... 2d8712d553

 Re: Problem Launching Trine?
I have the radeon 4850 I believe, or something in the 4800 series, I can't remember which. I installed the nvidia drivers and the game works fine for me. Looking at the driver details it does not look like it actually installs the nvidia drivers over the ati drivers, but just adds some software that is needed to run the game.
I did take a couple tries to actually install the game. I got error 4100, but after several attempts the game downloaded, and is now running fine.

That is certainly unique, I'll send this info up the chain. You don't by any chance have a Metaboli subscription?

I get the same error. I'm trying to run it on a Windows XP laptop with an ATI mobility x1400 card. After I pick my resolution/detail from the launch window it either gives me this error or it just crashes.

Let me make exactly sure I understand what is happening. Do you get the message before or after you see the Trine launcher with screen settings? It may be helpful to see your logs if you could post them. Directions are at the top of the tech support forum. Perhaps your GameTap update didn't install the new encryption driver correctly on your computer. If that looks like the case in the logs, we can peek into your registry and check. Also- have you ever moved your GameTap installation out of the default directory (Program Files/GameTap Web Player)? Any chance you have ever had a Metaboli subscription in Europe before? Sorry for the inconvenience...

Sorry to spoil the mystery, but I reinstalled my physx drivers and now it works fine. Thanks for all the advice. For the record, I never had a metaboli account, and the error would appear after the launcher.

 Re: Problem Launching Trine?
Here's a problem: I can't even download Trine. I installed Physx, reinstalled it, removed Trine from my queue, and reloaded it. I can't even get it to start. Now what?

 Re: Problem Launching Trine?
I have a problem where every time I try to run Trine it either (1) minimizes the browser and does nothing, (2)gives me an error 226, (3)the "Trine has stopped working" general windows program error, or (4)if it does start up and play it will 100% cause windows explorer to crash and restart (which is fine since the game starts and after windows explorer restarts, the other programs come back as well). Irritating, but should I delete it and redownload the game? All the other desktop games that I have tried work as usual (meaning perfectly fine). I hope this doesn't mean that all of the new type of encrypted games won't work for me as there as several good new ones coming out that I'm excited about. I'm running Vista 32 bit and updated DirectX and Video drivers today to try and resolve the problem to no avail. I have disabled UAC. I tried disabling my antivirus temporarily to see if that would help and it did not.
Thanks

We have one Vista 32 machine in our lab that has some similar behavior. It gets the 226 error occasionally and always shuts down explorer when the game launches successfully. We have contacted the encryption vendor about the 226 error (they are working on it) and are trying to understand why explorer is shutting down. I would not recommend downloading the game again. If you can launch it under any conditions (even if Explorer crashes) the game files sound like they are absolutely fine. I expect that you may hit this with some percentage of new games, but we also know there are a number of games that never have this problem. Unfortunately I think you are going to need to sit tight a while and wait for us to fix the situation. The good news for you is that we know about it and can easily reproduce the problem, which means that we should be able to get it fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience. I would encourage you to download additional games and let us know when you see this problem so we can start to look for some common technical ground in the games that have this issue.

 Re: Problem Launching Trine?
Thanks for the reply,
I tried to download it again before I saw your comment It was relatively small and the new scheme is very quick to download files. It didn't help. I'll try out the new games as they come along and try to help you out with the diagnosis. If it helps, my PC is a dell XPS 720 H2C Core2Quad Extreme (Q6850)with 4 GB ram with a NVidia Geforce 8800GT card. It also doesn't matter if I try to launch from IE or Firefox (my preferred browser). Just let me know if there is anything else that I can do to help you fix this one. I really enjoy Trine when I'm able to play it. Very Fun!!
Thanks again,
Mike

OK, my problem is fixed now. I suspect it was the PhysX driver but am not positive. On a whim I tried installing and playing the demo from Steam. I noticed that this ran the DirectX and PhysX installers. The Steam demo worked fine. I quit out of that and then tried running from GameTap and it worked with no problems.

I am getting the same type of error. It nevers starts on any level, andI dont get a report for any specifc error, it just says "Trine has stopped working," and then simply shuts down. Am I understanding correctly that there is no fix for this problem? Should I just delete the game?

Your problem is that your GameTap player is the wrong version. It looks like you had an update that failed for some reason along the way, and now it won't update to the new player that knows how to use the Trine encryption. Should be easy to fix. First, go to the TaskManager and kill the GameTapWebPlayer.exe process if it is running. Next, go and delete C:\ProgramData\GameTap Web Player\appdata\bootstrap_headless.csv, which should cause your player to update the next time you go to the GameTap website. Once you get the update, you should be able to download and play Trine.

I'd just like to add that I had a problem where I would try running the game, the settings screen would come up, then when I tried to start it an error would come up saying that the game stopped responding and that it needed to close. I did what you said to do here, and it fixed the problem. Thanks !

 Re: Problem Launching Trine?
hate to just repost what was posted here, but i'm having the same problems as the others. I installed the driver engine from the game's page, didn't help (100% of the times, i'm getting that the game crashed. Using Vista, and I can play Crysis on this so please don't pst "upgrade your system"). Should i try deleting it and redownloading it? Game looks really interesting, if not oddly similar to Lost Vikings >.>
