Re: I miss the old player/ I don't like this compilation thread
Just to clarify again: "Administrators" is just a forum thing. Many of us are just forum volunteer mods. Also many issues have been fixed. And some improved (We not have 64 bit compatablity for most/all future games and Back Catalog games are being released 2/week.) If you want your money back file a Service request.

Yet your post count is only one, so you obviously didn't even bother asking for help in the tech support forum. Do you read your internal customers' minds at your work? Is that what your customers expect? Is that what your expect from Gametap? "Complete fraud". Just because it doesn't work for you. >.<

Perhaps he bothered to ask for help by submitting logs?

Logs are used in conjunction with a post on the tech support forum. Merely submitting a log won't get you help, you have to actually ASK for help.

I have recieved technical help by submitting service logs without posting in the "community technical support" forum.

Re: I miss the old player/ I don't like this compilation thread
Really? How did that work? You submitted a log and somebody contacted you? Generally you submit a log and it gives you a log handle to include in your post. If you just submit a log, how is the staff to know what your problem even is? Guess I'm mistaken, I apologize, I didn't know GT staff were actively pursuing submitted logs; you wouldn't think so by the way people complain around here, they make it sound as if it's impossible to get any help.

Re: I miss the old player/ I don't like this compilation thread
One caveat being that I did submit the service request prior to the great change of 2009.
I was contacted via email after submitting a log followed by a service request. When submitting the service request, there was a block for text to describe the problem.
I suppose the difference being that I did not stop after only submitting a log.

OLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL GAMETAP RUINED ITS SELF. GOOD JOB GAMETAP, IF ONLY YOU DIDN'T MERGE WITH METABOLIC. I MISS THOSE DAYS WHEN MY FRIENDS AND I WOULD PLAY OUR VIDEO GAMES, BUT NOW WE CAN'T DUE TO THIS HORRIBLE SYSTEM. THEY ALL QUIT BECAUSE OF THIS.
PLEASE SHUT DOWN GAMETAP, WE DON'T WANT THIS.

No one's holding a gun to your head and keeping you here (unless all caps typing is the new code for that.) Feel free to leave. Those of enjoying it however would much prefer that Gametap not be shut down.

Re: I miss the old player/ I don't like this compilation thread
I haven't used Gametap in about a year, I've just had too much to do. Comparatively, the new system is absolutely abysmal. Further, far more games were free the last time I was here. I am, however, consoled by the fact that, sooner or later, Gametap will learn that alienating their users will cost them both subscriptions and advertisement revenue.

A. Which does not change the fact that many games which were once free now cost money, and... B. By making more free games, Gametap could attract far more users, and generate much more advertisement revenue. By charging for games, Gametap loses much potential income. Sooner or later, they'll learn how marketing works, or they won't, and another, more competently run site will replace them.

It doesn't work that way, http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-of-the-day-online-ad-revenue-2009-5, the ad bubble has burst.

Re: I miss the old player/ I don't like this compilation thread
Recent earnings from Google suggest that chart is pretty out of date. http://investor.google.com/releases/200 ... nings.htmlQuote: Google Network Revenues - Google's partner sites generated revenues, through AdSense programs, of $1.80 billion, or 30% of total revenues, in the third quarter of 2009. This represents a 7% increase from third quarter 2008 network revenues of $1.68 billion.
Which would put that red line of yours up to 7% and the Q3 '09 black portion somewhere above the Q3 '08 one (that chart probably included the google internal sites like search, but i figured the 3rd party was more relevant internal did even better). I can't find segmented figures for yahoo or Microsoft, but the three combined barely equal Google in ad related revenue, as shown by the chart you posted. Also that 5% decline was more search related then display: http://www.iab.net/about_the_iab/recent ... /pr-100509Quote: Display-related advertising—which includes display ads, rich media, digital video and sponsorship—totaled nearly $3.8 billion in the first six months of 2009, showing a relatively modest 1.1% decline from the same period in 2008. Digital video continues to experience robust growth with a 38% increase from the first half of 2008.
When trading stocks at around this time I am usually weary of companies that blame losses on the economy, but you probably aren't official enough to be talking about that in the first place.

Your barking up the wrong tree thepotatoman, I'm not a business man by any stretch of the imagination. But I do know what our traffic is like, I know what ad providers are paying, and I know how much game licenses cost. It does not work out for a company of our size. We aren't Google.

Also Keep in mind Google is a virtual ad monopoly at this point. That's like comparing Budwiser Sales to local microbrew sales and arguing that a lower price point works for both. They have entirely differnet models of business.

Those are google ad sense third party numbers. As in its the revenue obtained through googles ad service on other sites like this one. I left out the numbers that include the actual google.com and youtube stuff on purpose. Those numbers that were posted were primarily google numbers, did you bark up the wrong tree by posting that link? I assume you know what google ad-sense is, so unless google radically changed the price structure, online ads are probably pretty good.

Re: I miss the old player/ I don't like this compilation thread
Didn't gametap used to have a whole lot a free games? And then they cut it back to just a handful after, what, two years? I think we can kinda give them the benifit of the doubt that they have tried out both ways and can tell what works better for them at this point.

They used to have more free games but those games rarely got switched out for new ones so there wasn't a lot variation in what you got to play.

More like comparing walmart sales to smaller retail sales (which is done all the time). Besides was only going off the same type of numbers that lc originally posted. Ad-sense and similar services basically made up a majority of the data in those charts and you still seemed fine with that. If you wanted to limit the discussion to a certain sub sector of advertising then do so from the beginning, but then i refer to the the second point that said video advertising was actually increasing during the same period which I think is the sector we are talking about. I can believe that advertisements have dried up for gametap.com and if they want to change their business then fine, the claim that everyone has advertisements dried up is all i was trying to correct.

Can anyone even still play games on this website? I just joined, but it seems like the old client used to be much better. But I guess it's hard to be worse than one that doesn't even work.
