Post Good game recommendations?
Been a bit bored with some of the gametap games lately. It seems every shooter i download is very...aged...and they age like milk... (talking to you, Dues Ex! no, i just suck at it, lol). Any good shooters on gametap? Something that has a lot of strategy in it, not just like a run&gun. Something thats more like Crysis, Far Cry, or CoD than Halo or Doom are the best examples i can think of. I've seen a few of the military games on here, but they either have low scores or (in the case of Rainbow Six 3) very confusing gameplay, w/o tutorials or otherwise.

It's not really a flat-out shooter, per se, but you should definitely check out the Splinter Cell series. Lurking around in the shadows and busting skulls as Sam Fisher never gets old.

I'd recommend Far Cry. ;)

lol....yeah i already have tried all the splinter cells, lots of fun. Waiting patiently for Double Agent to come to GT. First Ghost Recon? I'll have to try that out. I did find that Battlestations: Midway was pretty fun. A lot of the levels seem too similar though (mini review...lol), and combat quickly becomes either too easy or too hard. Pretty disapointing when you can hold off an entire enemy fleet with a single flagship, or when a measly patrol boat takes out 2 destroyers with well placed torpedos.

I know people have mixed feelings on it and it doesn't run well or at all on some computers but in my opinion Stalker is fantastic. Definitely not a Doom-type shooter, lots of strategy and RPG elements.

I second Stalker. That game has great atmosphere.

If you want something aged that isn't sour, check out Battlezone. Not necessarily a FPS by the traditional definition but it's fun and very retro. (Love me some vector graphics! :D) Not much by way of strategy, but it's good for a quick game. Check out Red Baron too! :P

I tried stalker, personally, i didn't like it that much. Maybe it was me--it seemed very difficult, and i got confused and lost with the objectives fairly easily. The big firefight underneath the first bridge (leaving the essential "starting zone") got me killed repeatedly, with the lack of an effective scope.

It's definitely tricky at the beginning, I probably died about 20 times trying to get past the military there, but once you get some good gear and get to explore the whole zone it is awesome. Our feelings on games might not be a perfect match though, I LOVE Deus Ex :D

Project Snowblind was pretty fun, give that a try if you haven't already.

I was thinking about that one--being one of the few 64-bit shooters. Just tried Ghost Recon. First level, lost two rifleman after clearing out the first camp, because apparently they are unable to kill a single enemy troop half behind a rock, then i lost a heavy gunner inside the cave, lost one of my snipers after getting to the man i was supposed to subdue (who i ended up just shooting), lost my final sniper when i was this >..< close to the exit, then lost my final gunner when i was litteraly ON the extraction point (well, like 5 yards from it).....yeah....ghost recon isn't for me >.<

i'm going to download Snowblind now. I'll tell ye what i think later.

If you're not prone to motion sickness and don't get dizzy easily, you might want to give the Descent series a look. They're kind of a cross between an FPS and a flying game (you're in a ship, not on foot).

These games are an absolute blast to play and are quite challenging as well. The enemy AI is very good (fiendishly so at the higher difficulty settings). Enemies will duck to cover the second you fire on them, run and call for reinforcements, cut off escape routes, try to catch you in cross fires and ambush you when you least expect it. Good, good stuff!

Be warned: the game can be very disorienting at times and a good joystick or game controller is practicaly a must. Definitely unlike any other FPS you've ever played though.

Anyway, just a thought. :)

If you can get over the horrible voice acting in it Vietcong is pretty good, it's a little tough though.

I was turned off when I relized there was no leveling up. How can you have an RPG is you can't increase your skills?!

Tried snowblind, pretty good, kinda easy, the "headshots aren't 1-hit KO" thing kinda put me off, as did the essential mana system. I may try Vietcong.

It only has RPG elements, like inventory and some stats(but those are really just based on what armor and artifects you have)It's still very much a shooter

I found Shadowgrounds, Shadowgrounds:Survivor and Alien Shooter Vengeance to be extremely fun. Zombie Shooter: not so much.

Commando Strike Force is alot of fun, if not a bit easy. I expected an FPS from the GT stills, but from what i've played so far its almost completly a stealth game.

If you main issue with Stalker was that the fight under the bridge was too hard, you should know that your not actually expected to win that fight. You can bribe one of the solders to let you through, and there are two other places to get to the other side. They both have their own unique challenges, but one of them just requires you have some anti-rads or vodka.

Also, you should at least give the Descent games a shot if you haven't. Rayven knows a good game when he plays it. The Freespace games are space sims, but the original trilogy are first person shooters. You seem to not really care for old games, so you might not like them. Still, its at least worth trying.

its actually not that--i had seen scenes from my old copy of Baulder's Gate of the game, and it didn't look too interesting. However, because you both insist, i will try it.
