 Evil Genius!!! At long last!
I requested/suggested this game quite awhile back. I am so glad it is coming. I used to play this game for hours and hours on end. I was so sad when my game discs became glitched and I could never reinstall it. I am one happy camper right now. Think I'm going to set up my tent and roast marshmallows. Unfortunately I never could find out how to kill those darn superspys.

One of those games I thought sounded interesting and always wanted to play but never did. I'll have to give it a try.

Is it fully updated and with the bonus content?

Re: Evil Genius!!! At long last!
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be patched. While it would have been ideal if GameTap had allowed access to the DynamicResources directory, if they would have at least enabled the developer console in the .config file it would have been excellent. It really adds a lot to the game with that enabled - it's like a whole sandbox mode is enabled. There are some really great mods for it, too. Check out Evil Planet for a lot of information on the game.
Would it be that difficult to push an update down the pipe on the game? While it would help, the patch isn't nearly as important in my opinion as the debug mode (it's at least half the fun).

I was able to edit the .config files, and apply the latest patch, were you not?

I gave it a shot with the official patch, but I just made a mess of it. A handy step-by-step guide for patching 64-bit Gametap games like this one would probably save a lot of hassle.

I'm not sure a handy guide is going to work. It'll probably very per game depending on how each game patches. Also, patching is officially "not supported." and guides aren't going muddle the issue on that.

Re: Evil Genius!!! At long last!
I just unpacked the unofficial 1.1 patch into the Evil Genius folder.

Re: Evil Genius!!! At long last!
FYI, everyone, I found that if you download Evil Genius and "install" the unofficial 1.1 patch into the appropriate folder (which is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GameTap Web Player\games\150001650\evilgenius for XP users and C:\Program Data\GameTap Web Player\games\150001650\evilgenius for Vista/7 users) before you've started up the game for the first time, it'll cause the game to crash when playing certain videos, like the Evil Genius intro movie. I found that I could avoid the problem by installing Evil Genius, launching the game, setting up options, starting a new game, exiting, and installing the unofficial patch, in that order.

Okay, but once you've got the patch installed, what do you do when it asks for the Play CD?

If you're referring to the official patch, tednewb, then you can't do anything except delete the game through GameTap. I know because I tried installing the official patch myself.

Re: Evil Genius!!! At long last!
I love evil Genius. It's long been a frequent visitor to my PC. Even though I have the game already, I tried it through Game Tap when it became available, as I've done with several other games I own that came up here (the questionable utility of this activity has been pointed out to me). But I've noticed several bugs that I never experienced while playing the game installed via disk. It got annoying enough that I dumped the GT version and reinstalled the disk version, which I've been happily playing since.
Is there some way to file a bug report with Game Tap?

Re: Evil Genius!!! At long last!
This game can be run in widescreen resolutions with a hack called "Universal Resolution Changer". It can be downloaded here. You will need to unzip the files into the ReleaseExe folder that is inside the evilgenius folder. I have tested this with the Gametap version, and can confirm it works. Ive got the game in 1920x1080 on my 42 inch LCD TV. The HUD is stretched out, but everything else is as it should be. I didn't have any problems with the patch. I just pointed it in the right direction, and everything works just fine.
