I know there have been a few threads about Trackmania issues, but I haven't seen my specific problem brought up, so I thought I'd play it safe and start a new topic.

Unlike some other users, I was successfully able to install and run Trackmania, and I can even play a few races in a row. However, usually after running through one or two races, I'm experiencing a crash, either during the track loading screen or right after a race finishes. I'm sometimes able to get back to the desktop, but other times, I've had to hard-restart. There doesn't seem to be any consistent pattern as to when the crash occurs; sometimes it'll happen after the first race I run, while other times it'll take six or seven, but it always crashes in the end.

I would suggest deleting the game and downloading it again. Unfortunately, there is a bug in the current GameTap player that will complicate this unless you want to do some extra steps manually with your registry.

If you can wait until our next patch is available (next Thursday), then you should be able to easily delete Trackmania and redownload without any problems. I'm fairly certain that your game progress will still be intact since its saved in a directory that doesn't get deleted (we only delete the game binaries, not the save files).

If a re-download doesn't work, you may be running into a new problem on your PC that we haven't heard of before.

Just as a bit of an update, I tried running the game in a window on a hunch, and I've been able to play for substantially longer without it crashing. It did eventually crash after an hour or so the first time I tried it, but I was able to normally exit after a half-hour the next. I'll see if the reinstall winds up changing anything.

Edit: Scratch that...I've been getting some fairly quick crashes in windowed mode too. So much for that theory.

Update: After the new player update, I deleted and reinstalled the game, but I experienced a similar crash in fullscreen mode while being awarded medals after a race; luckily, I was able to Alt+Tab back to the desktop and end the process successfully this time. It did take substantially longer to crash than it has in previous fullscreen attempts, and I'm usually able to play for a long amount of time in windowed mode before it crashes (if it even does), so at least it's playable; in any case, if it does crash in windowed mode, at least I can kill the process without ever needing to restart. Part of me wonders if it isn't just a bug in the game itself, since it usually happens just as I've pressed Enter to advance a screen, as if the program just "skipped a beat" and didn't know what to do with itself, but who knows.
