 Hori Real Arcade Pro EX-SE
Hey y'all,
Has anybody had any luck making the Hori Real Arcade Pro EX-SE, one of those five-pound XBOX 360 arcade joysticks, work with GameTap? It seems to set "A" to "credit", and I can't find where the actual fire button should be.
I know GameTap doesn't have controller configuration set up yet, but setting button 1 to "credit" when "primary fire" would be more appropriate is just silly.
I've tried using Pinnacle Game Profiler to remap to the standard keyboard inputs (VCXZ/FDSA/NumEnter/Esc), but it's firing both it and the native joystick event, which is bad when A is mapped to Start.
Advice? Windows 7 compatable remappers (maybe ones that don't cost $20) that actually fix the problem? A less fundamentally stupid default controller layout? Promises to implement customized controls?

JoyToKey is a popular option though I haven't tested it in Windows 7.

Re: Hori Real Arcade Pro EX-SE
Just tried it. It works exactly as well as Pinnacle. It correctly forwards all the keypresses, but can't mask off the "real" joystick presses. Pressing "A" still also presses "Insert Coin", which is problematic in a variety of games.
I know implementing input remapping is harder than it sounds. Would it be easier to implement a way to shut off joystick handling entirely, as a user-controllable (preferably site-wide, rather than per-game, but not too hard to reach) option, so I can just shut off GameTap's incorrect handling and use the keyboard emulator to solve the issue?

Bringing my post back up...
I still haven't found a real solution for this. Joystick button 1 on any unidentified joystick seems to behave like "insert coin", which is actually *worse* than ignoring it completely because it interferes when I try to use a remapper.
GameTap adminpeople: if I submit a support request describing the joystick in full, and asking for it to be added to the set of supported input devices, would it be anything other than a waste of time?

Re: Hori Real Arcade Pro EX-SE
As far as I can tell, XPadder can't solve the problem any better than Pinnacle or JoyToKey. None of them seem to be able to squash the native joystick events- which doesn't really surprise me, on the Windows 7 admin model.
The problem I'm having is that GameTap's support for an unidentifiable XBOX-inspired controller, such as the Hori Real Arcade Pro EX-SE for the 360, is literally worse than nothing. If GameTap ignored the controller, or could be configured to ignore the controller, then I could use a remapper to send the keyboard events and all would be well. But it's treating "A"- the most easily-reached button- as "Coin & Start", which obviously screws things up badly if I try to use it as a fire button as well. It sends the keyboard event, but it also sends the Coin & Start event, and the game, naturally, acts on both.
Using the remaining buttons on the controller actually isn't comfortable due to the curved button layout. It works, but it works nowhere near as well.
GameTap, I know remapping controls is hard, but is there any way to turn off GameTap's handling of a USB-based game controller entirely, so Pinnacle (et al.) could overthrow it completely without sending spurious commands?
