Post McAfee AntiVirus detects trackmania as a trojan
Just wanted to post that McAfee thinks some file named artemis... something is a trojan and blocks it from launching whenever I try to launch Trackmania through gametap.

Have you tried disabling you're A/V and then launching the game?

Not so much interested in playing as in getting confirmation that this is a false positive.

Considering that Gametap is an extremely safe site and does it's utmost best to make sure nothing nefarious gets through, I'd be willing to bet that it is in fact, a false positive.

I remember getting a few FPs back in my Norton days (one of the MANY reasons I won't use their products anymore). Now, I use a program called Game Booster which completely shuts down my A/V and all other unnecessary programs/processes whenever I log onto Gametap. It has done wonders helping my games run better (not to mention the time it saves having to go into the processes menu and manually shutting everything down) and, I've never had a problem with spyware, malware or any other kind of "ware" while using GT with my A/V disabled. :D

It's a false positive. Lots of virus scanners freak out when they see encrypted files. GT uses encrypted files, therefore they freak out.

I am soooo going to check that program out, thanks for mentioning it!

edit: OMG that works awesome! No more slowed-down games! I can actually run Trine at something other than the very lowest settings! Thanks Rayven!

Does it restart them when you exit?

Not automatically. What happens is, you open the Game Booster, then click a button and it shuts down all unnecessary processes and background programs. It then minimizes itself into the system tray. You can then go to Gametap and everything runs at light speed. :P Once you're done with your gaming session, you bring up the tray icon and click a button to turn everything back on. It works great. I wish I'd known about this sooner.

Edit: it's also worth noting that while it shuts down things like my AVG tray and Spybot's TeaTimer, it leaves my Zonealarm firewall up. All it does to zonealarm is close the user interface, not the firewall itself, so I can rest assured I'm not wide open to random attack. I'm totally sold on this program. And it's free! :D

Edit #2: Also, you can't close out the Game Booster program without pressing the button to turn everything back on; i.e. you can't accidentally shut it down after it's closed all the processes. Another nice feature.

For purposes of my question that "automatic" enough for me.

I am having this problem with McAfee as well when it comes to Unreal Tournament 2004, I turned off the firewall and still came up as a trojan, did I shut off the wrong thing?
