Post Dragon Age: Origins
No posts on this awesome game? I'm really loving it, mainly because of the fact that there's no morality meter anymore. I always felt restricted in other Bioware RPGs, in a way ("I'm playing as good, so I'll just choose all the responses that sound good"), so now I'm really just choosing dialogue choices that sound best, which is more enjoyable.

I'm not too good at the whole tactical combat thing, though. I just set it to easy, let the AI do its thing, and pause when things get too hectic/health gets low. I do have trouble selecting enemies among all my allies sometimes, but that's because A. I'm too lazy to zoom out to the tactical view and B. I can always pause to fix that.

I will, I will, after AC2, I finish Oblivion (whoops that got put on my back shelf) and Fallout 3. Erg possibly brutal legend, but that may get pushed back.

Hmm, also all this game playing is going to run me into time constraints with Bioshock 2, and Mass effect 2. It's a good time to be a gamer (and a bad time to be a student again.)

Hoping they support the DLC a little more than Mass Effect got, with its one good pack and then a fighting arena thing thrown out there this year.

Masseffect felt complete though w/o the DLC. Personally I'm thinking soon we'll have half finished games with boat loads of DLC...kinda like how you could buy yourself a character in Oblivion (or how they basically released a small game's worth of content for Fallout 3, at a full game's price.)

This game feels complete without DLC's which im glad for some people cant afford to buy a game then buy twice the games price in DLC's. Im only alittle over half way thru and ive prolly logged in like 35 hours of play

Actually, Mass Effects first DLC was only $5, and it came free with the PC version (of course when I bought it the Xbox version was $5 less than the PC version to account for this.)

for you guys not using wynne, how do you stay alive during long boss fights? do you use a lot of health poultices? there are some fights i don't think i would have been able to win without her.

lets just say i kinda killed wynne, All you have to do is find the spirit healer book and use morrigans other specialization for it. Ive only had trouble in two boss fights that was the Brood Mother and the Dragon in Haven.

I don't understand the reviews for this game. I have beaten it 3 times, I really like the game, will probably get the DLC for it even and any expansions that might be released.

The points that are being praised by reviewers are what I find to be problems though. I like the storyline, but it isn't original or new in any way really. The setting is pretty good, but again, the basic setting (not detailing religion and stuff) isn't new or original.

What does bug me though is no voice acting for the main character. Everyone else has pretty good voices, just jarring to be silent.

Because Bioware believes in the main character being "you" so giving him/her a voice other than your own would detract from that.

you do have a voice tho you never use it thru the story. the only time you hear your character speak is when your running around. The voices you get to choose from are bad tho, rarely does one of them even match what your character looks like

Probably because Mass Effect has a more simplified dialogue wheel that doesn't say any specifics, while Dragon Age says everything, so it would be repetitive to have your person speak.

Yeah, I wasn't including the yelling when you go attack creatures and things like that. I never found one that fit my female elf mage well, I agree the voices for the player weren't great.

Post Re: Dragon Age: Origins
I just beat the game last night, which may be a bit slower than some of you (I'm employed). I played a human warrior and killed Wynne, so I relied on Morrigan to be my healer. There are some parts of the game where you are not allowed to use the witch, so it is a good idea to make a bunch of health potions and buy whatever potions you can. when I started the game, I was either going to play a mage or a warrior because I figured that all classes could do damage, but I needed to either have a healer or a tank that I could depend on (me).

After playing this game, I can honestly say that it is unnecessary, as the game has plenty of opportunities for all classes except the mage, where you have one opportunity to get a healer besides the witch. I should have just played a mage, although I had a lot of fun as the warrior, and I found I could control most of the battles as that class. I did buy the DLC, and I have mixed feelings. The only really useful thing was the bank to store items at the northern keep. That particular quest was actually very short, so short that I felt ripped off. The golem character, Shale, is worthwhile due to the high quality nature of the character, the unique powers that propel you through some of the more difficult portions of the game, and the dialogue options that it opens. Shale also gives you a lot of insight into the other characters when they have random conversations as she is very intelligent, if not as intelligent as the witch.

If you enjoy RPG's, this is one to play that you will remember for years to come. It is a great journey. I beat the game on the regular difficulty. The tactic system is alright although it does bug at times. I also found that certain keys on the keyboard wouldn't work, such as the print screen and the zoom features. There are also random crashes on the steam version (I don't know if that happened to anyone else), especially when steam has an update. Steam can rot in hell. My Batman game is broken on there due to bad patching on steam (their forums corroborate my story). If you can get past these issues, this is time well spent if you are a gamer. My total playtime was over 70 hours, with over 75% quest completion. If you race through it, I'm sure you could complete this game in 50 hours or less. Especially with Shale! :-)

One last note, there are a lot of mature scenes beyond just the "romance" scenes. The brood mother scene was especially disturbing, not just because she had 10 breasts, but the entire plot there is full of some pretty heavy topics. Every city you visit has some extreme stories with lots of mature themes and ambiguous decision making. When you beat the game, there is an epilogue that is tailored to the choices that you made throughout the game, and some of them are surprises for decisions I made that I thought would be "good guy" choices.

Have lots of fun!
