Skullkan Reviews: DSi Ware Part 1
(my first NON flash game review.. and It is only Part 1 considering that some of these games have infinite levels and other I have yet to complete. There will be more than 2 parts, I can asure you that.)
(also correct me if I'm wrong with any of my info.... I'm checking it from the DSi main-screen)
Name: Army Defender
Rating: E10+
Developer: Kaolink
Cost(Dsi Points):200

A turret defense game that I found to be work about 300 Dsi points... and that's not an insult. I got a surprising amount of play and fun out of this little game. The game-play is simple, you are a guy on a turret on the touch screen half of the DSi, you have to hold back enemy soldiers of red and green (who can only be shot by bullets of the same color) so they can't destroy the wall you are perched on. There are upgrades but they are earned through points, and there are power ups that are dropped by an airship that flies overhead (which switch your bullets to homing missiles, a flame thrower, or explosive bombs). If you get enough kills you are allowed to use a nuke strike that kills all enemies on both screens. The upgrades include more bullets per shot, lowering the meter to use a nuke, and higher damage. It's not a highly original game but it's good for the price.
I give it: 3.5 out of 5 para-troopers.
Name: Dark Void Zero
Developer: Capcom Entertainment Inc/ Other Ocean
Rating: E10+
Price: 500

A game many, many DSi owners want to have. Look away from the screen-shots above if they start to bring back terrible memories of DarkVoid (from what I heard it sucked) because happily it's much better. Supposedly an abandoned NES game that Capcom canceled just before it would hit the shelves, it both looks and feels like a original NES game. Also happily there is no code system for saving but instead it uses the DSi's memory space. It's a nice touch that when ever you load it up it tells you to blow into teh microphone to start it up.. and thankfully it won't get annoying thanks to the fact that you can bypass it by pressing A. It plays very smoothly despite having no tutorial area, the only problem I came across was when you get the jetpack you have to double tap A to go into and out of true flying mode instead of just being propelled up. The weapons and power-ups are nicely balanced and all enemies have the same 9 direction aiming that you do. (though they aren't THAT smart... it's still typical NES AI) The boss after the first level seemed pretty hard, so here's a tip: before you go to the exit area, pick up the rocket launcher... it'll help.. really. Collectibles are scattered through out the levels and most aren't easy to find. The map is shown on the top screen while gameplay is preformed on the bottom screen. (even though there are no touch controls) It is indeed a really good game and worth your Nintendo points. While the story is standard Sci-Fi (you are the first human born in the void, and your leader is Nichola Tesla... he may not be able to fight with you but he can make a mean gun.) So far the game hasn't been too hard and unless I find something that will change this score later in the game... This is how it will stand with me.
I give it 9 out of 10 Alien scientists oddly enough collected by being shot...
(I wish I had the image...)
Stay tuned, I bought more than this. Let me just say I Have spent a total of 3,000 Dsi points at the shop. (1,000 I got for free when I bought it last november)
