Thanks much

sherlock holmes? seriously?
Why all these games out from left field, what happened to the games on the "coming soon" list
For pete's sake, what even happened to the coming soon list?

The Sherlock Holmes games were on the list at some point. But it has NEVER been terribly useful, much less when Metaboli took over.

Re: New Game Day 2.11.10: Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper
the list used to useful when it was update weekly. It really seems that there is intent to release specific games but at the last minute there is a problem and a back up game is inserted to appease the members. some big games were in the pipeline but no mention of when they might arrive. it would be great if someone who is in the loop at gametap took on the task of putting the information out weekly. it would be easier to update weekly than monthly or longer, less changes on a weekly basis than a longer period.

There are some great reviews for this on Metacritic. IGN loved this giving it a score of 8. Good job Gametap.

Re: New Game Day 2.11.10: Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper
I'm guessing this is a good game but these type of games are past my prime. I used to be really good at the FMV thinking games.
What's really sad is that none of the games recently I can review with honest ratings.

I'm intrigued. I'll add it to my to do list, after Silverfall and Syberia II.

Haha....Castlevania III has become my "Don't have a lot of time" game, playing a few minutes here and there. And since I'm in the middle of a 6 day weekend, I've got plenty of time.

Re: New Game Day 2.11.10: Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper
If you two are through hijacking this thread there is something on topic I would like to post. Yes this definantly seems like a "well we can't get this game going in time so let's check the "ready to go" pile for something to throw on" game. And appearantly they didn't have time to throw in a puzzle game with it. Just one game and I have absolutely no interest playing it. Oh well I need to work on my Backloggery anyways.

I understand this game got pretty decent reviews. On the other hand, my local Best Buy has had two copies of this game on the shelf since like, forever. They don't even bother to dust them anymore.

Re: New Game Day 2.11.10: Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper
I was disappointed when I saw this was the week's release, but it's actually quite good. The crime re-enactment and deduction system does feel very much in the spirit of the books. Graphics are very good for an adventure game. It's first person 3d but you can reveal hotspots with a button press so there's no pixel hunting. You can fast travel to all key locations after finding them, which lets you focus on solving puzzles and talking to people instead of walking back and forth endlessly, which had always been the number one problem I had with adventure games.

That must be new for this game because it wasn't in The Awakened or Sherlock Holmes vs Lupin

Re: New Game Day 2.11.10: Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper
I actually really like this game. Im a huge fan of the actual stories. After seeing the preview for that BULL wanna be sherlock holmes movie, Im glad to see the characters in this game are actually like the book. Some stuff like choosing what to say to the people really isnt needed since you dont get many options and it doesnt change the outcome, but it isnt a "problem". It would have been cool if you chose what to say and it changed what'd happen. I think its fun, I like the story, and the forensics part of it is very cool. I havent finished it just yet but I like it a lot more than expected.

I believe it was generally accepted that the movie was a pretty accurate rendition of Sherlock Holmes. The previews were rather misleading in making it look like a pure action movie.

Re: New Game Day 2.11.10: Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper
Sorry I'm going to put my cranky foot down and insist that Watson is not an action hero like the movie made him out to be. He was a wounded man who walked with a limp. Irene Adler was significantly more awesome in the story she appeared in, too. None of that damsel in distress stuff.
