3) Gametap willingly let the licenses go in an attempt to mirror their parent company Metaboli and focus on offering PC games while slowly phasing out classic gaming.
4) The licenses were pulled due to legal reasons and both sides are actively trying to get these licenses reinstated.
5) The Moon aligned with Jupiter and Uranus, and Nostradamus predicted the licenses would be lost, and his prediction is coming true. The Mayans might have had something to do with it as well....

well i'm looking at it like this maybe they went out of business or the owners died and the game developers are trying to find a new owner for sega.

 Re: Sega and Capcom
Well I know Nintendo bought the Sonic the Hedgehog property when Sega went under and that obviously wasn't going to stay once Sega expired. But who owns the rest of that stuff? And why all of Capcom but the fighting games? I can only assume THAT is because of financial issues - keep the major, popular Capcom games and lose the rest? I don't see why we wouldn't keep all properties available unless it couldn't be afforded.
Gametap keeps losing big names that have been in the system for a while. Sure, they are adding games that are only a 1 or 2 years old, but those are once a week and are nowhere near on par with the loss of major properties - all of Sierra and now all of Sega. Why not start looking into licensing older games? Or restoring the license for major games. Is this some business decision by Metaboli? The ONLY positive aspect I've seen since the Metaboli takeover is the addition of much newer games. Everything else has gone down hill. The Ubisoft deal isn't going to be worth much pretty soon since Ubisoft is going full-out anti-consumer in order to "stop" piracy.

 Re: Sega and Capcom
Wait... Nintendo bought Sonic? Sega went under? Not sure about that.
Anyway, both Capcom and Sega have been releasing combo packs of their classic games recently. Capcom in particular, releasing two fifty dollar packs of their older games... excluding the Street Fighter series. My guess is they didn't want all of those games on a ten-dollar-a-month service.
Or Gametap could just be re-prioritizing. This is a PC-based service after all, so it makes sense they would cater to gamers who want to play PC games. I am a little worried at what the loss of the entire Sega lineup could mean, but with big names like Street Fighter IV, both Neverwinter Nights, The Witcher, and the second Rainbow Six Vegas coming soon I don't see all that much reason to fret.

UPDATE:
As of right now, the situation has changed, and these games will not be removed on Monday. At the moment, consider this a temporary reprieve, but I'll let you know if the situation changes again.

I doubt they will phase it out completley. Classic gaming is how they advertised in those really old commercials i remember seeing, so it sone of the purposes of the site.

i don't believe that gametap will turn into a pc only game company besides they have street fighter 4 on the way on gametap, i know they have it on the download to own section, so i'm sure they'll have it in the unlimited play section.

Also yeah, that was just a rumor that came around when Sega stopped making consoles, and their first Sonic titles afterwards were exclusively Nintendo ones. But since Sonic Heroes, Sonic games have been on all consoles.

yah i know that but don't you have an arcade version coming up cuz i still see it in the testing area of the updates and upcoming games forum p.s if nintendo bought sega which i know they didn't i'm just saying if i think nintendo would screw up the sega games.

It'll probably be the PC version of it, though. I don't see why they would do the (probably) difficult task of emulating the arcade version when the PC version is ready to go as is. And I'm pretty sure Nintendo would've treated Sega's franchises better than Sega has. Just look at what they've done to poor Sonic compared to Mario (Mario has his own issues with the spin-offs, but let's just stick with the mainstream games here). And this is coming from a Sonic fan.

Yeah, the "super speed" thing Sega's going for suxxors. I downloaded the demo for the last game and after dying 10 times in less than 5 minutes I said "well I'm not buying this for 19.99."
My fiancee bought the Wii Sonic and the Secret Rings, which was OKish (horrible acting and scripting) but it was as much driving game as anything else. And we never finished it (the final boss battle is a waste of time.)

At least on the Wii version, I really liked the Sonic segments. They're fast but I still feel in control. The werehog segments, on the other hand...

yah when those developers did the wherehog segment in sonic unleashed i'm like what were they thinking plus in the wii version you had to punch like an idiot (sigh), i was gonna buy sonic unleash for wii if they havn't done the wherehog segment, i mean i guess i'm ok with the talking to people segment and speed segment of course but thats about it.

 Re: Sega and Capcom
I for one have complete given up on Nintendo and their children's toy division, ie the entire company as of present. I supported Nintendo my entire life and was so utterly betrayed by them, the fact that Sega finally bit the big one sucks. If they end up owning all Sega's crap, there's no way in hell I'm paying to play one again, and all that implies...
