 Re: Game Removal Update
OMG, that is a @&$-ton of games gone from the service, a lot of which I had intended to play. I have to be honest here, there are now only a handful of games left that I actually want to play. Thusly, I foresee myself canceling my GameTap subscription a whole lot sooner, rather then later unless you guys try to salvage some of these contracts w/ these devs/publishers. Sega was one of your biggest attractions, if not THE biggest attraction, at least since you started losing a lot of these other games, imho you really couldn't afford to lose Sega.
I think I see GameTap folding in the not-too-far future, and I certainly won't be here for it once I finish the handful of games you have that I actually would want to play.

Yep, only a matter of time before we lose Namco, SNK, and the rest of Capcom. Would subscribe for the PC games but the 64-bit selection isn't too great.
On the light side of things, GameTap is now able to hit the 1,000 mark for the third time ever!

 Re: Game Removal Update
One way or another it all comes down to money - is the problem they don't get paid enough by Gametap? or that there are not enough gametap subscribers? In any case I don't see more subscribers joining if you cut the game catalog by 20% - while these were not my kind of games the ones that got cut two months ago - the Novalogic ones were I've paid until next June and I'm getting my moneys worth right now - but for how much longer if this trend continues It seems like a downward spiral

 Re: Game Removal Update
Well the good thing is there are tons of ROM archives out there with all these games already in it, chances are they have like 7 different hacked versions of each too and a more reliable save game process. Legal or not, that's the only option left unless you want to pay the ransom for these games on Steam or idiotic console networks. And I used to be the one browsing ebay for used sega games to play on my Nemesis...

Console publishers constantly complain about the used game market and then refuse to host their games here. Sad thing is, I'm sure they'll make more money in the long run by leaving us in the dark like this (not GT of course, the publishers...)

I will still stick around with GT because I know they might get them back with huge talks and stuff but to say that GT is tanking is not true as long as you stay they will keep running if you all leave it will tank and that would suck!! Come on guys stick with GT a bit more lets see if they can get the licences of some of those games back!!

Just like they managed to get the Myst games back? Honestly call me a pessimist but I only see things going downhill from here on out. Ugh! Just looking at how many games just got nixed is crazy! Castlevania, Golden Axe, Sonic, Earthworm Jim, Phantasy Star...

At the same time, we will also be losing our games from the following publishers: Evryware Intellivision Konami Taito
I will update this post with the full game list and more information as I receive it. | | |
This.. -this- really *EXPLETIVE DELETED*'s me off. Gametap, when it started, was almost EXCLUSIVELY old sega stuff and warner-owned arcade games and atari stuff. Losing the Sega stuff is losing the soul of what made gametap great before it was bought out by Metaboli. Being able to LEGALLY play through the phantasy star series (as opposed to roms), games like Gunstar Heroes and more. But then, for me, the soul of gametap was being able to log in of a morning and see my name on the Yar's Revenge and Chopper Command high score lists, but we know -that- will never happen again.

I wouldn't pay 2¢ for Space Harrier. But people who have never played it just might. Playing Devil's Advocate here, and not to stick up for GT, but the removal of the Sega games was more than likely beyond their control for this very reason. Sega is going to make a lot more money selling their old games on Steam and XBLA then they are " leasing" them to GT so people can pay them (for Sega's intents and purposes) "free". It's all about the Benjamins, and Sega wants yours all for itself.

It's all about the Benjamins, and Sega wants yours all for itself Yes Budda, I agree entirely Sega will do what's good for Sega as will all the other game companies in the long run. I don't know if anyone else has noticed ( haven't seen any comments), but at the same time these games disappeared so did XXX number of players on line which always appeared when I logged on. I've watched for last 3 days and it's not just a glitch so I think they are also taking a big hit on play activity. Especially in the under 10 age group who most of those games would appeal to I imagine. And if the kids aren't using it because of lack of suitable games and the parents are paying guess what happens next? No 5 or 10 bucks at the start of next month from the parents, or kids as the case might be.

funny how this brings me a litle bit of comfort, knowing that metaboli and gt will see this decrease and see why they have a epic fail on their hands.

I agree shibby. I hate giving GT $10 month after month when so much is wrong here, but it's still worth it for me to stay (I'm one of the fortunate ones who can play almost all their games...) I really wish I could deny them my cash, but for now I can't so I hope others are arguing with their wallet. Obviously, that's the only thing Metaboli understands whatsoever.

That's not a bad idea, at least until Commodore and Amiga start selling their games on XBLA/PSN too!

I don't know chuck the last time I tried to play one of my commodore games I found as usual that my memories were best left as memories. Though Sid Mierer has the right idea when his philosophy is build a great and fun concept - then build the graphics and story around it - with the Civilization series being the best example I can think of offhand. The concept stands the test of time. How's the new hardware you were getting a couple of weeks ago working out Chuck

Well, I have now unsubscribed. Congratulations Metaboli, you took the greatest service in the history of PC gaming, and have brought it down to the level at which it can be compared to the likes of Steam and the N-Gage.
Should a competent company which actually cares about their service and their customers buy GameTap and take up the reigns, I may resubscribe. But so long as I know that they're under the control of a company as inept as the monkeys which are now hammering away at this machine, I'll stick to the free catalog.

Despite all the horror stories people here tell about Steam, I can't imagine they're worse than GT. I got Steam during that first awful month when it launched, and even that wasn't so bad. The fact that people with 64bit Windows can only play less than 1/3 of the desktop games here is quite sad. People with Windows 7 64 are even worse off....Thanks for everything, Metaboli! MarioFanatic, I commend you for voting with your wallet, as Metaboli clearly only understands that kind of statement.

 Re: Game Removal Update
And what I'd like to know is how many of the people who are whining actually played an arcade game that was removed actually played the arcade games? Sure, I lost a few of my favorites, but I have them on CD (through Sega SNK collections and the Smash Packs), and though it hurts a bit, it's not going to cost GameTap my subscription because I really didn't join for the classics. Plus, they've been putting out some pretty good modern games recently, which really help fill the void.
