I had to do it multiple times as well, but it seems to be stable now. I think they were just repeatedly breaking the cookie as they messed with things under the hood.

I believe this was the issue; I also tried deleting the cookie but it still wouldn't remember me. It does now.

Well, I have deleted the cookie again and we will see if it sticks this time.

I use IE atm, and the cookie situation seems the same. I delete the GT cookie, sometimes it remembers me for a bit, but eventually, it's back to manual login every time. Hopefully GT really is just updating constantly and it's not a bug.... :/

Different folks work on various parts of the site, rest assured the devs are still working hard on a big functionality update (cough.. cough... tray app).

Has anyone tried out the new Download To Own shop? Lemme know how your experience was, it was the majority of last week's update.

This must be the biggest load of crap I've seen today.

Notice that after yet another promise that things will surely get better some day, there's a lovely advertisement trying to get yet more money from us before we finally bail out.

LittlestCthulhu, please answer this question honestly:
Why is there any labor at all being spent on the looks of the site (or the Download to Own area) when the player plugin has never worked properly since the day it was released?

I've been wondering this since the ad they did a little while back.

This "tray app" as it's being referred to is just another distraction if you ask me.

There is nothing wrong with the TYPE of app we have now (the browser plugin). Its just that it doesn't work properly.

GameTap's efforts should be in correcting the problems that currently exist rather than spending labor costs on a whole new app and/or worthless site changes.

This whole thing about the TYPE of application seems to be a very common myth here on GameTap. We have another thread talking about that here:

I still think the tray app was a good idea at some point, but it should have been done within 6 months of the switch, at the latest. It's been in production for over a year now, hasn't it? That's way too damn long if your current system is broken, GT.

I've sent a personal message to LittlestCthulhu.

We'll see if they care enough to bother with an answer.

Unfortunately the tray app is not compatible with the new player. We will explore other ways, but no more news about that for the moment.

Sorry samurai, I didn't see this before. Here's the advert they made several months ago: http://poetv.com/video.php?vid=70105&big=2x I think they only did 1 this year...

About the tray app, it doesn't surprise me that it's incompatible with GT at it's current state, and if they have to start all over, I say go ahead. It might take until 2012, but I really don't think the browser approach is ideal.

You really think GT will last that long? I have my doubts.

    - Over 500 games suddenly deleted, leaving only 459 and dropping.
    - No drop in price.
    - No support of any real value.
    - Poor consumer relations, with almost zero communication.
    - Malfunctioning games with no hope of getting fixed.
    - Malfunctioning interface with no hope of getting fixed.
    - Stiff competition in the marketplace.

Adds up to what I would call, piss-poor prospects. I could be wrong, but if I worked for Metaboli, I would be updating my resume. Maybe that's why nothing gets fixed around here.

I agree with you on everything but the stiff competition bit. GT is the only service that I know of that offers this model. Everybody else just has you buy individual games where GT allows you to pay a flat monthly fee to have unlimited access to any game in the library. That's a pretty damned cool setup. In that sense, there isn't really much competition.

However, if another company did something similar to GT and had a service that functioned better than Gametap's (which really wouldn't be hard to do), GT would tank in no time. I know that I would certainly switch.

Maybe I missed something but I don't think we lost any games since the last big update. And we are still getting new games every week so the number of games is growing, not dropping.

These you have a point. While haven't had to have dealings with the support myself I get the feeling that it's not what it should be.

I know for a fact that broken games have been fixed and the interface is a lot better since the last update. There is at least some hope that things may be fixed.

Um... there were some 800+ games until quite recently. As a paying customer, I was never notified in advance that such a drastic reduction in content would be coming.

There are still games that crash or otherwise malfunction for me and others, and there is no support or even responses to requests, so one can only assume that (like the games that acted "broken" before they were deleted in the recent "update") they will never get fixed.

The interface is NOT fixed (mostly just made to look different), and still has some severe flaws in function, not to mention how terribly it is designed (browser plugin vs. stand alone, queuing, downloads turning themselves off, etc, etc.). These problems have existed since the original move from a stand alone app to the plugin, and many "updates" have happened since that did not fix them, so it is safe to assume that they have no plans to ever fix them.

The main problem is the complete and total lack of communication from Metaboli. There is simply no excuse for how they ignore requests for help, and reasonable customer service dictates that they at least tell us what is happening and when we can expect changes to occur.

No offense, but do you work for GameTap?

No I don't work for Gametap.

Yes there are less games then there once was. but there are actually 784 games not 459,the other 325 games are retro games in the other side of the site.and my main point was not about the number of games that was lost but that the number is not still dropping like you said. And there was notification before the games where removed,It was posted here on the forums and E-mails were sent out.

I didn't say(or didn't mean to) that all the games are fixed, just that Some games have been fixed so you can't really say for certain that they are not trying at all to make them work.

I never said the interface was fixed.I said that it has improved which shows that they are working on it.

And like I said I haven't had to have much personal experience with the support but from what I have seen I agree with you that it is far from adequate.
