Unfortunately, online multiplayer support for arcade/emulated games in general was lost when GT first made the transition to the web (as it is now) over a year ago. If you want multiplayer Street Fighter your only option (definitely not a bad option) is Street Fighter IV in the "Unlimited Play" tab. You'll need your XBox live account or if you don't have one you'll need to make a games for windows account (it's free) and you'll be able to play online.
You'll also need to install the Game for Windows LIVE software if you don't have it already or the game won't even launch.

Ok that's a bit of a let down... but is this a permanet thing or is the GT team working on a way to bring it back cause I'd really love to play SF IV again. Also I notice alot of the classic games that once avaiable like Sonic and other are gone.

Maybe I am confused here but how is it a letdown? From what I understand you can still play online you just need to download Games for Windows Live and make an account. Is the problem that you don't want to download it? I hate GFWL as much as anyone but frankly if it would let me play a game I really wanted to get into, I'd just grit my teeth and do it.

Oh and you should check out this thread: game-removal-update-t37998.html

It'll give you the lowdown on the games GT has lost... brace yourself, it's a lot.

Hello Hello there, I'm dejaish, or Deja for short. I am 26 yrs old, and I have been a gamer ever since my dad got me into half life (the very first one)

Honestly, I was a gamer before that, but I wasn't AS serious as I was until Half life, after that it has been an unhealthy obsession (I say unhealthy, cause I get smacked over the head almost everyday, cause my mom wants the computer and I am hogging it lol)

I love RPGs mostly, getting into point and click games like Sam & Max, big into Tycoon games too.

hmm, other than the games, I like to read, I write creative stories, I also sing, and I'm in college for general science and biology.

Post Re: Welcome To The GameTap Forums, Introduce Yourself
I have returned. Initially a very active member of the Gametap community back when it was still launching, I remember the old Gametap client, the addition of Gametap TV, and Uru Live. When the news of Metaboli taking over came in, the cancellation of URU, and the loss of a few of my favorite titles, I left.

After about a 13 months, I've come back to take a look into how Gametap has changed, how it's library has evolved and just how things are in general.

First Impressions:

[*]The library seems less "offbeat" than it used to be. A lot of mainstream games are there such as GRID and whatnot, but things like Sam and Max and other "Gametap" games I remember are missing now, likely due to licenses, but since I buy a lot of my games outright, I was hoping for more obscure things to present themselves. It could be that I haven't had a good chance to look, but "vatever", at least there's what appears to be a new series to look at.

[*]The downloader certainly seems improved. I'd hope so after a year, I remember constantly fighting with it, having to force it's process to close and having to constantly pause and re-start downloads. Hopefully the stability will keep up.

[*]The front page seems a bit crowded, and loads pretty slowly. Likely a side-effect of having so many flash elements on top of grabbing them from a french domain. Eh..

[*]My former playlists are gone. This is disappointing, I can't tell what of my old favorites are missing because of this. I recall a fight over it right before the Metaboli merger, and a comment that they'd be re-introduced with the old lists still intact, but I guess it's gone.

Seeing a bunch of "I can't unsubscribe" posts doesn't bolster my confidence either, but let's see how my experience is with this new version of Gametap.

PS: I still miss the inclusive client. It was nice to have a little "box that had everything I wanted". Computer Lab is still amusing, even now.
-------

EDIT: So, I spoke too soon about the client. While it is better, it's still pretty slow and clunky. I've already had a few times where it got stuck not knowing if it was downloading or not. It's still an improvement though.

Yeah, it is slow. The Firefox version is marginally faster. We do still have Sam & Max though. Just do a search. Both "games" are actually seasons.

I'm running Firefox this time around. What I was getting at with Sam and Max was there's Season 2, but no Season 1.

EDIT: Seems they just changed the name. Rather than listing it as "season One", they listed it under a completely different title. Season 1 is there.

Absolutely no idea... Too bad that S2E3 won't work for me. The whole reason I came back was to play Jurgen's episode again.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Can we all just be a little more realistic here. Gametap now is just wow, what happened, honestly what the heck happened on this site. I am not trying to be rude at all, but seriously what the heck has happened to this site. Here's what you can't enjoy anymore:

-No more Challenging others in various game lobbies
-No more interaction with other players
-No more leaderboards
-No more tournaments
-No more prizes from winning tournaments, which ive won a couple and the t-shirts are awesome
-No more buddy lists
-No more messaging people
-No more games like "Defender"--they took off "Defender" people. "Defender" is in the Top 5 Most Classic Games of All-Time. Behind Pac-Man and Galaga, Defender is an absolute and utter Classic.
-No more chatting in the lobby and organizing informal tournaments

Oh yea, and they've added absolutely USELESS statistics like:
"Top players"--how can there be any top players when noone is allowed to play each other?
"Total hours"--what does total hours playing a game have anything to do with skill? It doesn't. It's a Useless statistic.
"Total game sessions"--what does total game sessions have anything to do with skill? It doesn't. It's a Useless statistic.

Just wow gametap, wow. Impressive. (My name is Russell, my gametap id's are various: neogenx, neogeneration, a bunch of others i forget. I was a regular in all of the game lobbies that were flooded with gamers back when gametap used to have game lobbies. I used to dominate the leaderboards on a daily basis about 5 years ago when Gametap was at its Prime. Gametap doesn't even have any tv commercials anymore)

relax neogenx gametap is making a comeback, you can however still challenge or co op with others players on pc titles, and you can pm other players, but i do agree with you about the top player, total hours and total game sessions cuz i don't think there was no need for these.
and well they do still have commercials and videos on gametap's Channel on youtube

Samuraiwarrior41~

Which games specifically can you challenge people on, and how do you exactly do this?

I remember there used to be leaderboards/tourneys and game lobbies for:
-Pac-Man
-Galaga
-Leaderboards for All of the 1980s classics: Dig Dug, H.E.R.O., Defender, Xevious, Zookeeper, Robotron 2084, Timber, Missile Command, etc.
-Last Blade II--used to have a super populated game lobby
-Street Fighter Alpha 3--used to have a super populated game lobby
-Street Fighter II: Championship Edition--used to have a super populated game lobby
-Bubble Bobble--used to have the most competitive leaderboard on the site
-Sonic 2--the best sonic, used to have a leaderboard

Metal Slug 1,2,3, X,whatever--used to co-op with people all the time on that fun game
-My sub acct. name that was given to me by buddah420, doesn't even work anymore so I can't even play anything on gtap anyway.

FORTUNATELY, there is a classic arcade room in downtown Houston, called "Joystix". Me and my friend go there all the time and play Galaga, Track and Field, Missile Command, Paper Boy, Pac-Man (ms. pac-man, jr. pac-man, etc.), Robotron 2084, Timber, Xevious, Defender, Defender II (Stargate), Punchout, along with tons of other classics and modern games like Beach Head, GRID, Rambo, etc. If you live in or around the Houston area, Joystix has "Pac-Man Fever Fridays" and is open from 9pm-2am on the first and last friday of every month. There is a seriously badass original Galaga machine at Joystix with super-tight interface, seemingly lightening fast rapid fire response, which is a popular machine at joystix. I got 875,000 on that Galaga machine and that's my highest Galaga score to date. Keep gaming and reply to this because I will definetly read your reply. See you later.

well unreal tournament 2004, serious sam 2, riddick 2, and some other pc games
anyway go to a pc games click multiplayer and there should be servers where you can co op for challenge someone.

Post Re: Welcome To The GameTap Forums, Introduce Yourself
Hello everybody!

I am Todor, 21, from Bulgaria. I am currently working towards my bachelor degree in computer science, while working at a full time job as a C++ developer. In my free time, which is pretty scarce, I am trying to combine a lot of different activities - martial arts training (mma with combat sambo emphasys, to be precise), latin dancing, reading books (mostly sci-fi and fantasy) and playing computer games. Whenever I can take a few days off work/university, I love traveling to interesting destinations around the world. The last one doesn't happen too often, though.

Due to my busy schedule, the times when I played computer games for like 10 hours a day are now behind me, yet you can find me playing video games like a hour a day or so. I like all kinds of games - role playing, shooters, adventures and what not. The GameTap service seems perfect for people like me, so I decided to subscribe.

My impressions so far are great. That's exactly the kind of service I was looking for. I have a few remarks, if anyone cares to read them:
1 - While the catalog is great for casual players like me, I think the more hardcore players will be willing to pay, say, $30 or so per month in order to have access to more of the newer games.
2 - Nothing against browser plugins, but in my opinion, an independent game client will be more appropriate for this kind of service.
3 - The forums should be purged of offending posts/threads, and the corresponding posters should be punished in some way.
4 - That "refund" conception should be removed completely, I think. This will stop all the people whining about their $9.99. On a side note, if one holds a few dollars so dear, I really feel like he/she should give video games a break and find himself/herself a decent job.

That's all for now, guys! Don't hesitate to write me - I would really like to make some friends around here to play online with! :)

Hi everyone. My name is Chris and I'm Ray's (Rayven998's) nephew. I live in Tennessee and I love FPSs, flying games and racing games. My favorites are COD: Black Ops, Blazing Angels 2 and Midnight Club: LA. I own an Xbox 360 and game on my uncle's PS3 (when he lets me  ). Hope I get to play some FPSs online with some of you guys. Later. :)

Hi everyone, I would to say that I am very disappointed with the GameTap subscription service. First, customer service is awful. Under TimeWarner GameTap used to have a phone number where someone would actually answer and help. I remember those days. Under Metaboli, a machine answers and you get to talk to one. It's funny that Metaboli treats its customers like dirtbags. Second, you get no refund for your money whatsoever. I requested a cancellation of my subscription noting that I meet the terms & conditions for a refund. I have been waiting for more than a day for an answer that I don't think I will ever get one. In short, I think I know why great publishers such as Sega pulled out from GameTap a few months ago. Metaboli has much to learn about running a game service. Anyways, I have been a gametap subscriber for a while because I have faith in this service. But with all that has happened lately, GameTap has killed my passion for its service. I am going somewhere else and I suggest you do the same thing. Good luck and good buy Metaboli!

Well, not impressed. I bought/downloaded two games on my first day. One wouldn't play correctly after install, then would reinstall properly on subsequent tries. Other game simply will not install. It appears the installer file is corrupt. All in all, not a good experience.
