Post Neverwinter Nights will be sadly missed :(
Dear gamers,

Due to business issues between Atari and Hasbro (the rightholders of the NWN franchise) we are sorry to say that we will have to take the Neverwinter Nights games out of our catalogue.

We apologise for this, and will strive to get them from whomever owns the rights when the dust will have settled.

I'm sure there's going to be some hate posts for this, but to be honest I won't miss them.. There was a lot of problems with these titles for a lot of people, especially NWN1. It was just way too unstable. Sounds like Gametap couldn't do anything to keep them. Maybe when they come back, they'll be packaged better.

Yeah, I'm afraid of the "I HATE YOU" posts too, but we can't do anything, it's about rights :/

Don't worry about it MetaRaka, business is business unfortunately. It doesn't take much sense to see that it's beyond your, or Metaboli's control. Still, good luck with the haters! :)

Well that's it for me. The last reason to stay on gametap is officially gone. Hopefully these jackals will let me de-activate my account. What a joke.

Disppointed to not chance play Neverwinter Nights games. I did complete download but what it won't working when it's lanuch, It keep saying error msg sorry it need step back and do re-downloading repeat of times.

It does happen with other games that included CD keys causing problem. other games not included cd went fine.

Is something wrong with those games w/ cd keys problem with this gametap or with my PC itself?

That's why I close subscription on March 7th B/c of these plm.

I'm not really disappointed by the fact that it's gone. I'm disappointed that we got ZERO WARNING prior to today, much like when GameTap dropped the massive amounts of arcade games a few months back. Why can't we have more of a heads up than this, so we get a chance to play it before it's gone?

I do worry about starting large games when we see games disappearing without warning. I wasn't playing NWN, so this doesn't really affect me directly. It does indirectly though. I played through Titans Quest with my wife and 6 year old son, and when the big change happened not long ago, I was seriously concerned that the game would disappear after we had put in a couple of hundred outs of play. If it had, my son would have been devastated, and there is no way I would be able to get my wife to play an RPG on Gametap again.

Wow. I just started playing NWN a week ago, too. Those were truly the only games I was really interested in here, I think I'm going to have to jump ship, too. If you bring some quality RPGs back, I'll be back.

Luckily I have NWN Platinum and NWN2 Gold on disk, but I really wanted to get around to playing Storm of Zehir. Oh well :(

For all those who never played NWN you are missing nothing. The game is overly boring & waste of time. It would be awesome if GameTap could get SquareEnix licensing deal. :D

Gah! Oh well, I'm sure no one really blames you if they read the topic... any word on how long the ownership right scuffle will last?

Well, until or if they ever come back, you can currently get NWN Diamond at GOG.com DRM free for $10. I know it isn't the same as having it in the subscription here, but it is an option for those that missed out on at least the first one. :)

I played through all of those, and they were okay. I'd say the Mask of the Betrayer expansion for 2 was the only really good game out of all of the NWN stuff. Some things, like the ending to the original NWN 2 campaign, were truly awful to the point where I laughed at the absurdity. The manic whining of the little gnome guy was hilarious.

I agree with you, when all those games got dropped Grandia II went with them and I was so close to beating it that I got so angry I nearly cancelled my subscription but then I found some other games and that kept me on... barely. If Gametap could get square Enix games and multiplayer I would be delighted.

I understand that Metaboli can't control all the copyright issues, but they can control how they deal with them. If they were informed of the problem and had to take the games down immediately, then they need to make better contracts that won't allow such things to happen. If they knew about it beforehand, there's absolutely no excuse for not informing people about it as soon as they knew. Metaboli knew they'd be dropping 300+ games after the last update, yet made no attempt to inform their customers, despite having access to both a forum and people's e-mail addresses. I've seen some improvements in customer service and communication lately, so I don't understand why this dropping of games with no notice is still going on.

I just noticed they do have one game that was published by Square Enix - Kayne and Lynch - Dead Men. I don't know if it's relevant, but makes me think they could get others in the future..

Well said and I agree 100%.. Maybe they're thinking that a lot of people will try to lobby for Gametap to keep such games. Still, at least they'd get a read from subscribers, and we would appreciate a little notice if at all possible. If I remember right, I think they did at least give us a week's notice via the forum and email when the mass game removal and addition took place in October, which was a good thing they at least did that.

C-eddy is right they gave us notice in advance of the Sega and overall removals.

When a game is removed, does the code stay on your comp? Does your save games stay?

Thanks!
