1. Gunsmoke. God, I dont even think Contra was this hard. People coming every direction, trying to fend them off, and aviod their shots, all the while moving forward and collecting powerups.

2.The Adventures Of Batman And Robin. (genesis) In anticipation for the Dark Knight movie, I thought, hey why not play a Batman game to hold you off? When I saw this game, I remembered when I played the SNES version, I got somewhere. Not here though. Much like Gunsmoke, enemies sometimes flood the screen. Cant even beat the first boss! Gun.Smoke is probably one of my favorite arcade games. Very hard, although the NES version is much more accessible. I;d like to see the arcade version with the weapon powerups and ability to buy stuff from the NES version.

Gunsmoke is probably my favorite game on GameTap, ever :)

Though, for a more frustrating shooter, I'd probably go with Ikari Warriors. It's actually harder to play it on GT than it is in the arcade, thanks to the lack of knob controller, so that probably has something to do with it. Still, Ikari Warriors is stupid hard.

Though it's not GT related, I was playing some Alien Hominid HD last night with a friend. Now that is some frustrating stuff.

I though that Ninja Gaiden and Gradius where horribly difficult, but after enough practice, I could get fairly far though them. That said, they're FAIR and difficult games, which is why their so good. But after those first few levels, it can get frustrating.

Street Fighter, the game that hands your ass to you in 5 seconds.

How I forgot Ikari Warriors I'll never know. What a stupid control scheme.

Is it cheap to include Contra, Super C, and Contra Hardcorps?

You want frustrating? Try Tower of Druaga. I swear, that game is impossible. It's got a huge fan following in Japan, though they have a higher frustration threshold than we do. A lot of the game is trying to figure out how to get stuff done.

No. Seriously. Try Tower of Druaga. Gamasutra covered it in their overview of difficult game design.

Try killing one enemy in there. Can you believe that you used to have to pay quarters to play that game?

When I was younger, I always used to get those games based off of movies and cartoons and such. I had Scooby Doo: Cyber Chase for Playstation One, and that was ridiculously frustrating. A lot of those movie-based games I had were poorly developed and were really hard to play as a result.

Mario and Luigi Partners in Time had some very frustrating parts. Especially the boss before the last boss, it takes like 2 hours to beat the boss.

Even though it's quickly become my favorite game so far, I'd actually have to say "Typing of the Dead"...
It's insanely hard, once you start into a sentence, and a Zombie throws an axe, to speed your way through, then type the Letter on the Axe, That's all that ever hits me!

I can't type under pressure. At least, not the way you're supposed to. I look at the keyboard. And I just do just great.

Ghosts n Goblins - do I even need to say it?

Original Price of Persia - it takes some serious amount of time to get used to jumping and not being able to save the game hurts even more.

Comix Zone - tons of frustrating levels, the only reason how I managed to beat the game is that I could actually progress not like on original Sega Genesis...

How about Pac-Man? Only a few people including gaming legend Billy Mitchell has ever completed the 256 mazes and got to level -0 due to interger overflow on 8 bit systems

Because the controls aren't mapped that way on your keyboard. I believe A should be C by Gametap default, but it might be X.

Or it could be V, actually. I'd check the controls, try those 3, and then come back if that doesn't work.

Out of This World - SNES... The only time a friend and I had to repair a rental cartridge with Elmers Wood Glue...

Final Fantasy VIII - PSone... After being completely enthralled by the previous two Final Fantasies (VI and VII) I was beyond exited for VIII, but God that was one frustrating and tedious battle system... Couldn't even finish the game, and it left such a bad taste in my mouth that I skipped IX until a few years ago.

This is soo sad but the one that frustrates me the most is Burger Time, it seems to me that the older they are the harder they actually are.

Emergency 3 Mission:Life. It's quite difficult to click on the tiny little guys to make them do what you want. Also, the NPCs in the game act really stupid...bystanders walk right up to burning houses, people stand in front of your fire engines and won't let them by, etc. Trying to get the police to shoo them off is near impossible, heck, even getting a cop to face the correct direction when diverting traffic is tough! It's a fun game, but definitely frustrating.

Legacy of Kain: Defiance

It's not really a HARD game (especially compared to some of them on here) but it's horribly frustrating because of the absolutely terrible camera angles combined with lots of jumping puzzles. Also, having to backtrack a ton with raziel and his spirit shift is pretty frustrating too.

I almost gave up and deleted it, despite really wanting to finish the story, simply because of one spot where the camera (and thus controls) kept changing mid-jump causing me to fall to my death over and over.
