I can't play any games from the website
I'm getting kind of frustrated with this. I keep trying to play certain games off of Gametap.com, and it keeps crashing on me. It doesn't matter if I hit the lite or deluxe player button, it tells me that IE needs to close. Can anyone help me? This problem happens in IE7, and if I run the deluxe player I can play games fine off of there.

well personally i have found that the only thing ie is good for is to update windows and you can even do that in firefox at a few other sites so if i was you I would never use ie again...EVER..at least I don't.

seems like your IE could be hosed... maybe try rolling it back to 6 then reinstall 7.
also you may try ad-aware and Spybot to make sure you haven't gotten a browser hijacker

Re: I can't play any games from the website
I've personally had problems in IE that eventually turned out to be problems with 3rd party extensions (Browser Helper Objects) that I had installed and forgotten about. Try downloading and running Hijack This and disable any BHOs you don't recognize by name. This may not fix your specific problem with this site, but it may help in general if you are noticing IE's stability is not what it used to be.

Re: I can't play any games from the website
Just ran ad aware, there's no spyware on my machine other than a couple of tracking cookies, which I disposed of. I generally have good security settings and use a few different programs to make sure my computer doesn't get hosed. I was thinking maybe the firewall was blocking it, so I tried turning that off and using the Lite Player in IE, but that didn't work either.

I also ran BHOdemon which is an application that tells you what your BHO processes are and allows you to allow or disable them, and so far the only ones that came up are ones that I know about. Anything else I could do with Hijack This to help this problem?

one thought I've had..
I used to have a program that added advertising servers to my lmhosts file, do you have anything that could be doing that?
well, at least if you are using a green account or not signed in
Spybot immunize does that!! That would be something to check

Re: I can't play any games from the website
I'm pretty sure that I don't have any programs that are adding anything with spyware on my computer, I use ad aware, spybot, and windows defender to check for spyware. Everything else seems to work fine in IE except for the Gametap Lite Player.

Re: I can't play any games from the website
let me clarify, the lmhosts file on your computer is a file hidden in windows that you can add websites or whole domains that will keep them from loading. if you put doubleclick in there, it will block all ads from doubleclick, which is around 1/3 of the internet's advertisements. if gametap is getting ads sent through a domain that has been blocked in your lmhosts file, it would keep you from playing.
anything like peerguardian would do similar things, but spybot's immunize function could do something similar too, I honestly don't know where their ads would be coming from, whether it's hosted internally or linking through an ad vendor like doubleclick or googleanalytics or something like that. this would be a good question for one of the mods if they stop by

rollback to 6 and try it, if it still doesn't work.. I would be surprised
then try putting 7 back on and see if it is ok that way

Re: I can't play any games from the website
May not be anything wrong with your hosts file(s) or software running on the system. The links on the Gametap page use javascript to call an external program to launch the games. If you have applied any of the Micro$oft recommended fixes to IE that include manually disabling javascript or setting the security zone way up for the internet zone this can cause errors and possibly cause the crashes. Sometimes un/reinstalling IE may help but if it keeps your personal settings or any manual patches/fixes that you have applied using M$ articles try checking to make sure that javascript is turned on and your security settings in IE are not jacked way up. Also may want to check to see if you have the content advisor turned on in IE this setting can be a nightmare if you set it up wrong or forget your advisor password.
