Re: Let's Talk About Sid Meier's Pirates!
Actually, the question I was getting at is this: Is it intended that once you advance to journeyman difficulty, you no longer get any sort of "prompting" at all on the numeric keypad display, thus forcing you to watch your dance partner's hands, even though the dances get harder as well? Or is this a bug?

It's supposed to get rid of the prompting. Which really throws me off, because I use a laptop, and I have to mouse click everything, so it takes longer.

Your laptop doesn't have a pseudo keypad layout you can turn on for the game? You really only play the game with the mouse and keypad so it would be beneficial to turn that on.

I have a num pad that requires me to turn on num lock, but when I turn it on before game it turns off in game, and hitting the numlock key just flashes the light.

Re: Let's Talk About Sid Meier's Pirates!
If you mess up alot on journeyman (that's one harder then the minimum, right?) the prompts come back - enough time to save yourself if you do really well once they are on. Harder then that, though, and you don't ever get them.
For what it's worth, looking on the internet the dancing minigame seems to be widely regarded as the hardest part of the game. I'm playing on the middle difficulty and most of the game is fairly easy but I had to retry the dance like 30 times or something to finish the romance thing and get married... and that is WITH the best shoes and I barely made it even then.
so I just don't do the dance game anymore.

You people must be rhythmically challenged or something. Only reason I can think of for the dances being hard.

Re: Let's Talk About Sid Meier's Pirates!
The dances become a lot easier for me once I realized theres a pair pattern to them (left is almost always followed by right, forward is usually followed by backleft), plus the pairs always repeat (if first two steps are left-right, then she's going to do left-right again).
I also had the keypad issue that Spike88 had (my keyboard has an unusual keypad), so I had to use it's config utility to remap the keys to be the keypad keys regardless if numlock was on or off.

Hitting the keys at the right moments is no problem. The problem is being able to distinguish what the next dance move is, because the women wait until the last possible moment to tell you. The songs in 4/4 time provide so little warning that you pretty much have to already know the dance in order to do well at it.

If you have no trouble keeping the beat then focus on finding the pattern for the dance, they all follow a simple pattern.

The dances are hard for me, but that is because I have a graphics issue and whenever I mess up, the entire thing becomes glitched out and lags about 5 seconds behind what it is really at.

I'd take that to tech support and see if they can help you fix it.

No one "walks the plank" in the game, you just knock some people around or they jump off after a sword fight.

Fire your cannon (hit space bar) at the city a few times, then drive into it. If you piss them off enough before sailing into the city, it'll give you the option to attack.

Re: Let's Talk About Sid Meier's Pirates!
If its a real small city and has no bunker, you can't shoot your cannon at it for some stupid reason. so you need to wait around and attack a few ships that are either going out of the city or coming into it - 2 or 3 should be enough to make the town mad at you then you can attack it.
There should just be an attack town option :(
